Hey all. I don't know why Dinotopia keeps dropping back into my life after months of attention elsewhere, but it does and I'm here. I rebuilt my site after sphosting.com died. I'm deploying to the big sandbox this month but I'm working on designing a couple projects to occupy me while I'm over there. I can take paper and my laptop and I'd like to draw better. That just takes practice, I think. Looking at all the art and writing here makes me think of possibilities.
Basic intro. I'm twenty, I found the OMB several years ago, I write fiction. In my free time I work out like a fiend and I like to hike, study, read, and stargaze. I'd like to hike the Pacific Crest Trail southbound in July of 2009. I love Dinotopia for its society, not for the dolphinbacks or the outer world. My main char's name is Kaak. He's an apprentice skybax rider, son of a master in Canyon City. He's pretty cool. I like him.
I really, really want to write and draw. In the last few weeks, leading up to deployment, my life has become very simple. I do nothing but write, go to work, and work out. If anybody has any ideas for creative projects for this year, I'd love to hear them.

KAAK! How's it going? It's wonderful to see you back=)
Deployment? Am I mistaken or have you joined up with the military?
As for creative projects, we need a story to voice act! Perhaps one of yours would work=) Check out the Community Art Projects forum for more details.
Once again, it's great to see you back! Hang around;)

I have. I enlisted in the Marine Corps in July of 2004. I'm an aviation electrician, working on Harriers. I'm going to Iraq here in the very, very near future.
I'll try to hang around :P I at least promise I'll check in once in a while, when I get email access. I'm gonna keep my laptop with me and write like a fiend the whole time I'm over there. I'll come back with many words, a buff body befitting an apprentice sky bax rider, and a tan :D
I'll be like Kaak! Let me see about the story thingie.

Welcome back, I reckon. I am fairly new so I never had the chance to meet you but welcome none the less! I'm 22, my main character is a mammoth who loves buttercups, hence the name. No other flowers are safe either! I also look after three smilodon cubs but they are still young and do not put in too many appearances except in my childish artwork. Hope to see you around for a while. Try not to fry to bad in Iraq...my father has too many people to treat for sunstroke and other related illnesses as it is...(he's in the ARMY MEDDAC, doing mobile medic stuff over there; Never stays in one place to long). Take care and always check out the community arts section for creative ideas. We just finished up a calendar recently thanks to AZ so there is bound to be something else great right around the corner.

*shyly walks up to you but keeping my distance as I am new and still learning the ways of this wonderful strange world. I reach out a wing tip in a friendly gesture saying hello and welcome and hope you like your stay here (whisphers in your direction= "I've been told we can never leave!" ) then looks both ways to make sure no one has heard me. I smile warmly then back up*

Welcome Kaak! I too have not been here long enough to have met you before, but it's nice to meet you now. I hope you stick around here. Since you want to write, are you going to write any Dinotopia stories for us to read? That would be really cool and I have a feeling you would be good at it. Breathe Deep, Seek Peace, Rosa

Kada, I'm afraid my real life is lived in a culture that's the antithesis of Dinotopia's, so it's more that I would like to stay but can only spend a few minutes a day writing or drawing or reading in Dinotopia. The rest of the time I'm actively advancing myself in what is, basically, a pretty violent, unpredictable, and vulgar world. But that's life. I wish I could stay, though. Rosa, you're in luck! I posted a link to my site, Skies of Dinotopia, in the Flight Platform. Here's another link for you :) You can see if you like my stories or not. I've written many of them, though some are a few years old. spacejaggy.net/skybax/

*moves closer* I know you have the RL to live in but hopefully you will continue to come back to this world now and then? I won't tell anyone that you found a way to escape.

You can leave really. The truth about Dinotopia fandom is that most eggs DO roll out of the nest... :/ But we'll try to maintain the T of P anyway. Welcome back Kaak. Enjoy the insanity, don't trust the chocolate when its in asterixes. Az made the cursefiluter replace curses with *chocolate*. I still have to come up with a few funnier replacement for some of the more common curses, any takers?

I don't know about other people, Vorchia, but I won't ever leave. The idea of Dinotopia is eternal. I look at my situation and I think Dinotopia keeps a part of me still human, still rational, still a good person. Some people have religion, some people have family, some people have fandom. I have some mixture of it all and Dinotopia's an important part of that.
I lived with my dad between ages eight and twelve in an apartment that had an orchard out back and, down the hill, a field that was a lake in the winter rain and corn taller than my head in the summer. That's about the time I discovered Dinotopia in my library and, as a kid, I played being a skybax rider in the orchard or a saurian in the field. I don't know about anybody else, but everytime I leave this fandom, I don't leave Dinotopia. This fandom can be very bad, can spread lies, and can hurt its members. But that's because we're human. Dinotopia isn't just this fandom, though the friends I've made in the fandom are counted among some of my best.
When I leave in two weeks, I'm not going to talk to y'all for as long as a year. Is that going to diminish my memories of Dinotopia? Absolutely not. In fact, it'll probably just make the Dinotopia of my head more alive, because they've said our power's pretty wonky so I'll be writing by flashlight on notebooks while surrounded by dust. And all the ideals of the island, like giving to others before yourself and striving every day to give something small in the belief that it makes you better, that's going to sustain me when I put on the flak and kevlar every morning.
Unfortunately, I can't live by the code. My weapon will be over my shoulder everywhere I go and I'll have a magazine in my load-bearing vest. But I can bring a little bit of Dinotopia's spirit with me, to share with others. So I don't know about never leaving. I just know that, once Dinotopia had me, I've never escaped her. Of course, I never wanted to.
Just because someone's left this board, doesn't mean they've gone from the island.
