So yeah, I'm just stopping in for a bit, and looking over the forums I noticed that something seems to be missing. There's the standard religion and politics sections, as well as one for science and the environment, but what about discussions that don't fall into those categories (such as movies, games, history, culture, pets, etc.) It's perfectly possible to have serious and thougthful discussions on any of those topics, even if they're not "critical issues" like politics and religion.
It may seem odd to bring this up in my returning post, but the reason I do so is because I lost interest in this board last time as a result of finding the topics being discussed indistinguishable from the topics on other boards I frequent, as virtually all of them have politics and religion sections (and since they're much larger boards, the discussions were much more in depth.) Plus, in all honesty, I just don't care anymore- there's very little I find fundamentally "new" discussed anywhere in either topic. Some sort of "grab bag" section lets people post their thoughts on other stuff that interests them, and find out if anyone else shares those interests. Personally, I also find them much more informative, as people have knowledge of all sorts of random things.
I'm also posting this as a suggestion because most of the discussions I wanted to have have nothing to do with any of the current forums and "miscellany" seems devoted to more silly conversations.
So yeah, I'm back, but can't guarantee I'll stay- I may join the next role play that starts up, I'm still trying to decide what exactly Quickstride herself has been up to these past few years.

Well I do believe that's what Miscellany is there for. Although it seems like it's meant for the silly conversations you can post such topics as movies, games, history, culture, pets, etc. I think the reason why no one has posted those things yet is because they....just haven't yet. No one is keeping you from starting up those topics. We may need to anyway considering that we just have silly topics. For the movie topic we could have something like our book club forum. It could be a movie forum where the members list their favorite/suggested movies. We could even rate movies based on our opinion of them, even those in theaters if some of us were to go see some. The same could be said for topics such as games or music, etc. I believe we should do it and it could make the forum, and even the whole board more interesting.

I have a forum on my board called Entertainment where people can talk about the stuff you mentioned. If you want to post something that would be ok. The New Dragon's Lair

Miscellany, by its placement in the Temple, seems intended less for serious conversations than it is for light-hearted play. The more discussion oriented sections are in the "Off-topic" category at the bottom. The kind of discussions I'm talking about that could involve movies or games deal with general issues relating to them (trends, conventions, etc.) rather than individual releases (although I think reviews would be awesome, and would probably belong in Miscellany.) I'm just afraid that trying to mix serious discussion with silliness is going to detract from both, and I guess I'm just looking for discussions that are not politics or religion.

Quickstride! Long time no see=) At least, not on the boards anyway;) Nice to have you back, even if for just a little bit. I never created a more 'serious' board because that's what the Misc forum was for at the old Temple. However, if you think another board would be bood, I can go ahead and add a new one. What would you suggest it be called? The Serious Soapbox?

Hi Quickstride!! Welcome back to the T of P. I don´t talk a lot here because I am busy with various RL things. And I am still busy combing of all of Az´s ponies as a punishment for ´hijacking the Temple´ during the STOMP. But if you have some great topic for debate go right ahead and start a topic.... I´ll leave the creation of a new sub/board to Azzy as I have enough RL things going on to ensure I do not suffer from such annoying things as spare time.

I want something good to sink my teeth into!

Certain Ovinutrix would like to point out that while her admin powers be great, the board owner's account is untouchable by anyone but the board owner.
Certain Ovinutrix would also like to know how many of the April fools jokes you DID notice???

What would you suggest it be called? The Serious Soapbox? I know you're taking a vacation from the boards atm, but if you're still reading (or if any other admins are) I think that a general "Other" board with a description that indicates it's for discussions that don't fall into the other categories would be fine. As for topics I'd discuss, personally, a lot of what I'm interested in deals with exploring pop culture and the deeper meanings it may have. I'd also be interested in subjects other people bring up, though- that's part of the fun of a "grab bag" category.
