(My first RP post here, so be nice, please!)
Set on the northwest coast of the continent Dinotopia was one of the most important facilities of the entire nation, although it might not be considered that way to everyone. The Hatchery consisted of several buildings, each one built to take care of different types of dinosaurs. For example, the main building, set up on a cliff with the Sunstone that generated the whole Hatchery's power, was set up to facilitate juvenile Ceratopsians, such as Triceratops, Chasmosaurs and so on. Although this sort of segregation wasn't permanent or even favored, it was of a general opinion that it was best that infants spent most of their infanthood with members of their own species, or close to it. There was a play yard out on a flat spot, easily accessible from the other buildings that formed a circle around it, and that was always occupied by baby dinosaurs, playing around with each other and the constant visitors that came through.
Though visitors came through often, most of the biggest were only the size of a hadrosaur or ceratopsian. It was a very rare occurance when something of a larger size would come down the road. However, that's just what was happening, as the loud rumbling told of. Makori swung his head left to right, blinking as he tried to adjust his poor eyesight, typical of sauropods, which only gave him a headache. The diplodocus swung his head again, trying to keep focus enough to stop from treading on the numerous people and dinosaurs on the road. Most of them, luckily, were looking up at him, most likely wondering why he was going to the Hatchery, parting around him to allow him to keep going.
Makori himself didn't actually know why he was going to the Hatchery. Having left Volcaneum at last two months ago, he'd been steadily traveling north, just for the sake of traveling. However, when he'd stopped in Pooktook, a generous Gallimimus crafter had fashioned him a harness with several bags that he could put on and take off all by himself, thanks to the enlarged latches. This made carrying things like presents and other items much easier, as Makori was a slight bit of a packrat. However, he'd decided to come with a few gifts in tow, mainly some fruit and vegetables from the great farms out east.
As he finally made it into the Hatchery facility itself, Makori's headache took a turn for the worse, and he found himself staggering around until he finally teetered over with a low groan, accidentally crushing a large cart with his bulk. He would've apologized, but his head was keeping him from even opening his eyes.
And then, Makori realized his mistake. As a diplodocus who always wanted to see the world, he'd been too excited when he hit the road, and had forgotten to eat along the way. Stupid actually, most herbivores were supposed to know to eat almost all the time, yet he'd forgotten. Boy, if everyone at home could see him now...they'd wonder where they'd gone wrong.

Lore was visiting the hatchery with her friend and partner a Ceratopsian, she was a Troodon herself. She was outside walking around while her friend was visiting and telling a story within one of the buildings. Most of her stuff was in their room. She only wore her usual vest with many pockets, belt with pouches and shoulder bag. She liked to have small and medium handy things on her, and her idea of handy things was a bit more then some.
She saw the large Sauropod walking around a few streets over but thought little of it. Seeing large dinosaurs in cities may not be common but was not uncommon either, especially in certain cities more then others.
When she saw him fall she hurried over to where he was. She had to dodge a few folks and then saw a partial crowd who were looking. She gave a partial carnivore type hiss to attract attention of a few so they could see her motion for them to part so she could get closer. A part of her sighed at Troodons and many other saurians being unable to speak other then their own species language, though being able to understand others.
She went through the crowd, reaching into her shoulder bag into one of it's padded pockets to pull out her wax tablet and pulled out one of the stylii. The one she pulled out was not the one with a pointed end but the one that ended in a small dino footprint to make writing on the wax tablet faster then drawing each letter.
________________ OOC: as for the wax tablet I guess it is bordered and backed in wood with wax in the middle. It can be written on, then rubbed to resmooth the surface for reuse. If some think it is to high tech for dinotopia I read the ancient egyptians and ancient mesopotamia used such so guess it is not to high tech for the dinotopians to have such, if they have access to wax.

Makori's head was ringing like a bronze bell, preventing him from moving it. His stomach rumbled, and this wasn't the usual stomach rumbling that happened all the time in sauropods, but the massive rumbling that just screamed 'Feed me!'
Finally, the diplodocus managed to open his eye enough to let some light filter into his sight. It was then that he became aware of a small blur headed straight for him, pulling something out. As it came closer, Makori opened his eye further, curious as to what it was, and finally identified it as a troodon. A female, and she was carrying a tablet and a small stick that currently lost both their purpose on him.
He finally managed to get both eyes open peering out one side at her. Now he could see properly, sauropod properly, anyway, he saw that the front of the wooden tablet was made of wax, and she was stamping letters in it. A message tablet. Finally, she finished and turned it around to face him, bringing it close so he could see the letters. He squinted at it, slightly. The thing was smaller than his eye, and he was still a little shaky on the footprint alphabet, but he still managed to make out the words 'Are you okay?'
And here, Makori was puzzled. Did the troodon speak sauropod? Or would he have to resort to scratching it out in the dust? Most other sauropods, at work in public places, had a translator of some kind. Most couldn't learn Dinotopian, as their vocal chords severely limited the number of words they could say. However, after extensive study, Makori had indeed learned a few basic words. So, with some effort, he opened his mouth and grunted "I'm Ok."
Whoops, that was in sauropod. He'd forgotten he only knew greetings in Dinotopian.

Lore looked at Makori with concern on her face. She turned her message pad back to her and rubbed the wax to smooth it out so she could write her next message. She did so as fast as she could, making sure to get the words spelled correctly. She turned it back towards him.
" What happened? Need help?" The tablet said on it. She kept the message as simple as she could so it could be faster to read, and not take up her whole message tablet. She did understand sauropod and other languages, though being limited to physically being able to speak only her own species language, unlike her friend and partner. She thought it interesting and handy to study languages along with the other things she studied, basic science, history ect.
______
OOC: I can understand large dinos like sauropods and other like that not being super fluent in the written language. They have no hands to write it, and scroll readers are to small for them to use. They'd need a magnifying glass of some sort and maybe use their tongues to move the scroll reader or have someone read the scroll to them. Though concerts and storytelling they could listen to for pass times, among other things.

Makori blinked, then squinted even more, trying to see through the blurriness. He finally managed to make out the letters. Obviously, she understood him, but couldn't speak sauropod. He leaned his head back a little bit and muttered, in a guttural groan, "No, I'm fine, just hungry."
His headache once more reminded him of just how hungry he was, and he grimaced, half-shutting his eye. For such a giant beast, a small pain like a migraine could do a lot of damage.
With a groan, he finally got his front feet under him, pushing up slightly until he fell right back down, making the earth shudder slightly. He opened his eye again, looking at the, to him, tiny form of the troodon before asking "You got any thing I can snack on? Just a small something till I can get to that mangrove over there, please."

Lore nodded. She reached into her shoulder bag, for now putting away her wax tablet and stylus. She didn't have much, but had some dried fruit and sun dried tomatoes as snacks if she got hungry. She took out the containers holding these and opened them up so he could smell, if not see what they were. She wasn't sure if these would be enough for a snack to the sauropod, let alone enough for him to even taste, but he did look like he needed food fairly quickly.
___________________ OOC: as for the dried fruit & tomatoes, I read some debate if Troodons were pure carnivores, herbavores, or omnivores, not sure if Gurney said either way, but their being omnivores or herbivores would make sense as to how well they can live among the other herbivore saurians. Wonder why Gurney said most except for protoceratops can only speak their own species language, sorta illogical, but it is his world.

He sniffed. Dried fruit and vegetables. Straight from her personal bag, too. This troodon was generous. Most other people would've called for some other food, and that's what the crowd was doing now. In fact, grass and large, leafy branches were currently being brought out from the food silos.
However, Makori realized the significance of the troodon's offer. Even as the first large limbs reached him, Makori stretched out his tongue and gently took the dried produce before retracting them into his mouth. He swallowed, feeling the small things being pushed down his throat. True, they wouldn't give him much energy, but he smiled at her all the same, with a "Thanks" in basic Dinotopian to go along with it. Then, he began munching on some of the branches, stripping them with his teeth before swallowing them down.
After he had chewed through about half of the food in front of him, he managed to get his front legs underneath him and lift up with effort. When he was up on his feet and in no danger of wobbling over, a cheer went up, and then the entire crowd did the same as he started slowly towards the grove, moaning his appreciation in sauropod.
However, once he reached the grove, he slowly, but nonetheless loudly, collapsed again, but it was controlled this time. He simply didn't have the energy to stay up, and he hadn't wanted to dran these nice people of all their food. That just wasn't like him.

Lore watched as he took first her offered food, smiling up to him. She put the container away once it was empty. She watched him staying a little behind him as he went to the grove, to be sure he looked like he would be ok.

OOC: Sorry, thought that was the end of the rp. That you had intended for a short rp for your first.
Just one question I have to ask, should have asked it before. Which cannon for language are you going with. The one where most species is limited to just their own species language, or one of the other ones?
________ IC:
Lore continued walking behind him to where he was headed to be sure he would be ok and would not need any further help.

(OOC: Makori only knows how to speak basic Dinotopian, like greetings and thank yous. He understands the whole language, but a sauropod larynx won't let him speak much of it. I'll leave you to figure out where I'm going.)
Makori groaned as he shifted around, trying to find some leaves to fill his stomach with. As he did so, his eyes opened halfway to find himself being tailed once more by the troodon. It was, at that moment, that Makori remembered his bag full of goodies. Sighing, he reached down and undid the buckles before saying, in Sauropod, "Can you take these to the infants? You won't believe how much trouble getting these was."
No where on the west coast of Dinotopia did fruits such as bananas grow. Only out in between the lush moistness of the Rainy Basin and the hot, arid climate of the Eastern desert was it possible, making it only a small sliver of land. Bananas, which tasted very good in the diplodocus' opinion, were therefore a rare treat, and he'd had to go up to his hometown, Diploville, to get a few.

Lore looks at the bags, heading over to them. She nods to what Makori says, giving the body language equivalent of yes or ok. She picks up the bags as best as she could and headed over to the hatchery. She thought whatever was inside would be easier to carry while still in the bags instead of trying to carry them without the bags. There she looked around, asking till she found someone who understood troodon and opened the bag, handing the contents to the person there as she delivered Mokari's message, saying where he was in case they wished to thank him themselves.
Once this was done she went back to where he was, carrying the now empty bags. Showing them to him and putting them down in a neat arrangement that he could easily pick up when he wanted, or use as a sort of pillow if he wanted to take a nap there. She looked up at him and smiled, she guessed the infants would enjoy them a lot.
_______________ OOC: Sounds like your going with the each species can speak only it's species language. Thanks, I was unsure, but thought you were doing that. I've no idea about troodons, with 2 different opinions being the equal majority.
