IC: Clubber, Backbone Shipping Company, Rhumsburg.
Clubber entered the paddock he had chosen, grateful there was enough room to turn around in - provided he bent his tail almost double to do so! Once he was facing outward, he noticed Korkoa had finished talking to the female human hatchling, and was nowhere in sight! The hatchling took to talking with the duckbill; and from the tone of her voice, she seemed quite upset for some reason!
The Abnkylosaur poked his head out of his stall. "Don't fret, little one!", Clubber told her in Saurian, hoping she understood the language. "Breathe deep, seek p..... Aghhh!", Clubber got a twenty pound parcel of hay over the head!
he looked up and saw Korkoa, using a wooden pitchfork, shoveling wads of hay down for them to eat! "Say Korkoa, I don't mind being hit with food,", he drew his head inside to avoid another load. "But call your shots, will you!", How Korkoa got up in the loft was a mystery to him, but he saw wooden rungs connected to the inner framework of the barn, and figured he climbed those.
"Aw! Never mind!", Clubber said at last, chuckling. "Dig in, everyone!", after he sated his immediate hunger, he called to Korkoa. "Say, you must be hungry too. Maybe Mr. Achebe will let you buy a fish or something...", then he turned to his two other acquaintences, whom he hadn't formally met yet...

IC: "Sorry Clubber!" I called, jumping from the loft, somersaulting in the air, and landing gracefully in Clubbers cart.
"I'll go check with our new employer about the food situation." I ran out of the barn, and to the door of the main building. "Mr. Achebe?" I asked, knocking on the door. "It's Korkoa, I need to ask a question."

The red-headed southroner had taken great care the night before to assure he looked his best for the interview. He had washed himself thoroughly to remove the dirt and grime left by the journey to Ruhmsburg; his hair was trimmed neatly and picked clean of all stray hairs and flakes of dandruff. Even his uniform seemed smarter than usual: hardly a wrinkle or protruding thread could be seen without the most scrutinizing search; and the brass and leather glistened with their fresh polish.
As the door opened, Chris kept straight, and put forth his best officer's demeanor for his potential employer.
"Good evening, s'a, we've come in search for employment, and one of your envoys informed us that we should seek you out."

OOC: Ahhh! Timeline issues! Okay, will try to rectify. Anyhow, by Wednesday, it'll be one o'clock, and we'll be getting on our way.
IC: Isaiah Achebe, Backbone Shipping Company, Ruhmsburg
"Well, then, come right on in, then, and we'll have something of a chat."
The two men entered ahead of him, and he closed the door behind, only to hear a knock. It was the raptor, asking about food. He directed him to the barrels of smoked fish in the kitchen, and the iced fish in the basement. He then turned his attention back to the two men who had entered his house/office. The redheaded man was from the souther United States, a military man who'd traveled all over the world. The islander was a warrior in his own right, a Maori who'd fought the English in New Zealand. Both men were sturdy, strong, and capable. Both had many applicable skills. And most of all, both were here in front of him. As willing as he was to give anyone a try, Isaiah offered them the positions.
Bolo pulled him away. "Are you sure you want to just hire everyone who comes through here?"
"They're warriors," Isaiah said, "We're heading towards the Rainy Basin."
Bolo conceded.
"So," Isaiah said, "what say you fellows?"
The Maori nodded his acceptence, but Isaiah waited on the American.

OOC: Hey there! Sorry for the double post, but Sil's having trouble, so he asked me to post for him. He wrote the post, I'm just putting it up for him.
IC: Jul'althus, Backbone Shipping Company, Ruhmsburg
Jul’althus stopped suddenly at the sound of his pupil’s voice.
“Leaving your pupils without notice. Shameful!" was all that Julius truly heard of Tria’s rant, and he turned to find the girl slightly misty-eyed and very angry having found Julius. “Tria, did you follow me here?” Jul’althus sighed, realizing that while he was her teacher he really had no power over her anymore now that he had been effectively kicked out of the guild. “I am impressed at your tenacity, but I am afraid that I am no longer your official teacher, according to the guild. I had a…” He paused, trying to think a nice way to put it. No, “I got kicked out for being insubordinate.” That was better than any lie. “I can not order you to go back to Waterfall City, nor can I say you can stay, that is up to you. But know, that if you stay, you will learn. And you will work… Hard. You would be the only one around that could patch up the small ones.” This is the only thing that Julius could really offer the child; no protection, no coddling. He waited to see how the child reacted.

The American was not quite as quick as the Maori warrior to make a decision. If there was anything that his studies in business and politics had learned him, it was never a good idea to accept a deal without asking a few questions.
"Sir, I wouldn't mind a job one bit, but I would at least like to know what it is I'm getting into. What manner of work would you expect...a gentlemen like myself to perform? Now, mind you, I ain't above no hard labor and an honest livin', but I would like my years of leadership and diplomatic experiences be put to work benefiting Dinotopia."

Leadership? Diplomatic experience? This guy kept getting better.
"Well," Isaiah said, "we're in need of hardened individuals, like yourselves, and those are hard to come by, on this island. Lots of roughing it, up ahead. Lots of characters that may need a bit of...finessing, to get around. Lots and lots of travelling. We've got a pretty big group, and I need people who can keep things together while we're on the go. Dependable, quick thinking people I can rely on in a pinch." He reached into his jacket and produced two more cigars. He held them out to the men. "Sound somewhat interesting, so far?"

IC: Demetria McKellips, Backbone Shipping Co., Ruhmsburg
Tria raised an eyebrow and allowed a small, knowing grin to cross her fierce, but pretty, features. She decided, however, to leave Professor Prejudice out of the conversation and move forward.
"But know, that if you stay, you will learn. And you will work… Hard. You would be the only one around that could patch up the small ones.” Julius said evenly
Tria was stunned at the realization that she actually had a choice. She examined the barn, half expecting to see children, but knowing that her former mentor would most likely mean those smaller than he, namely the other humans or the raptor she had seen before. Tria quickly studied her options, her face a mask of stone as she stood, weighing the possibilities. If she stayed, there was a good chance of having the adventure she longed for, as well as getting in some field practice for her healing skills and abilities. If she went back to Waterfall City...Demetria considered the option. She would be considerably safer with the other students, and entirely bored out of her mind. She had already studied the traditional healing methods before she had begun training under Julius. She knew just about everything they could teach her, the only lesson missing was...field experience.
Tria looked back at Julius, still not changing her expression. "I'm coming with you. I need the experience anyway"
Just then the ankylosaur grunted and Tria looked up. He looked as if he were inviting her and the other saurians to eat with him. Tria softened up a little, giving in to her love for the saurian species, although she was a little more wary towards the carnivore. He seemed friendly enough, but she still felt a little uncertain. She noticed that she was practically the only human in the room and let herself relax. Around saurians she could be herself, but she hardly trusted her own species. After all, wasn't it the stupidity and pride of her own kind that had led to her family's destruction? She glanced around to make sure no humans were watching and approached the ankylosaur. "I'm afraid that I don't eat hay, but thank you for the offer, anyway" she replied in Basic Saurian She sat and watched the happenings of the barn. As far as she knew, no one need know she was joining what looked like a departing caravan yet, and she had walked a long way... She leaned against a wooden board, again checking for any other humans before closing her eyes for a moment. Just before she dozed off, she resolved to remain with the saurians on the trip until someone needed her help. That way she could prevent any awkward encounters as well as keep alert for any injuries. Her instincts told her that she would gain much more than field-experience lessons on this journey, but Tria pushed it aside, what else did she have to learn?

The little one came over and told him that she didn't eat hay - good! She understood saurian! He nodded at her, then smiled as he watched her go over to the entrance to the other paddock and lay down. He looked at the duckbill, who was watching the whole thing with a mistrusting eye; and rumbled in a friendly manner.
"Cute hatchling!", Clubber said in saurian, hoping that he understood too. "Is she your Partner?", Clubber did not like the look that was forming on that impassive face!...

OOC: Isaiah Achebe, Backbone Shipping Company, Ruhmsburg
It was one o'clock, and, eager to get started, Isaiah gathered his new employees out in front of the barn. When everyone was settled, there appeared to be too many. There was Clubber, and Korkoa, and the two men - Christopher and Kinaki - Julius, and...who was the girl? She seemed rather attached to the Hypacrosaurus, so Isaiah decided he'd ask later. Now was a happy time, a new beginning. He'd deal with aggravation later.
"Okay," he said, to kill the murmur. "Welcome to the Backbone Shipping Company, a little brainchild of Bolo's and mine. Here on this island, unless it's small enough to be carried by a Skybax, or there's a caravan going in the right direction, you're copro-out-of-luck if you need to send something somewhere. That's where we come in.
"Our first assignment out of here is taking a shipment of musical instruments out of this warehouse here to Sauropolis, and a restored figurehead to Bilgewater. Then we're heading to Arboria to pick up a shipment of lumber bound for Volcaneum, where we're going to do an errand, and..." He eyes Applejack. "...and then we'll be just about on our way home. We'll see if we can pick up some jobs along the way. First, though, we stop at the Blackfish Tavern for a drink and a good night of sleep."
"Shouldn't we just head straight to Sauropolis?" Bolo asked.
"No, Bolo, it's a tradition," said Isaiah, "Plus...Zola's working tonight."
Some questions, some concerns, but things went smoothly, overall. The air was electric as they headed out. Just as they reached the edge of town, Isaiah turned to Julius.
"So...who's red?"
Bolo rolled his eyes.
--------------------------
The smell of rotting fish reached their noses long before the sunstone beacons of the Blackfish Tavern came into view. The sun was setting, but they'd made good time. As they drew nearer, they began to see familiar faces, which brightened at the sight of Isaiah and the Protoceratops but seemed confused by their entourage. Finally, they pulled up and unloaded. Isaiah's grin was huge.
TAG: Everyone.
OOC: Okay, everyone! We're on the road! Exciting! A big thanks to everyone who joined!
I have to say, in the future, though, it'd be nice if people could post more regularly. It's a vicious cycle, otherwise: things move slowly, so people get bored and post less often, so things move even more slowly, and pretty soon nothing's happening and everyone's bored. Let's keep this lively, eh?
But again, thanks! Everyone have fun at the bar!

IC: Zola, Isabella
The sun was setting, and the tavern was quickly filling up. Sadly, Zola was still upstairs, sleeping off the hangover from the previous night. Not keeping quiet, Isabella made as much noise as possible coming into Zola's room.
"Sweetie, wake up, for the love of Ogthar." She said loudly, pulling Zola's blanket off of her.
Zola grumbled, "Go away, Isa." She reached for her blanket.
"Get out of bed, your turn downstairs."
Zola grumbled again, pulling herself out of her warm, comfortable bed.
"Get out so I can get dressed." She yawned, "See you downstairs, Isa."
"Feeling any better?" Isa asked.
Zola shook her head slightly, "A little."
Isa smiled, "Word on the road is that Isaiah is coming." She left Zola alone to get ready. *** Zola grumbled once more once she saw just how full the tavern was. Barely dark enough to light the street lamps and the tavern was half full. She started her shift with the fake smile and the saucy flirt.
And then Isaiah came in. Followed by a large group of humans and saurians, including the Achillobator and the Ankylosaurus that she vaguely remembered.
With a bigger smile, she poured Isaiah a drink on the house.
"Long time no see, Isaiah!" She shouted over the din.

IC: Isaiah Achebe, The Blackfish Tavern
Isaiah's heart started to beat just a bit faster at the sight of her. Zola. A man with a lighter complexion might have blushed at the sight of her smile, but all he felt was the warmth of blood rushing to his face, a warmth he was worried she might feel when she gave him a small embrace and a peck on his cheek, and then she'd know. He tried to appear completely collected as he returned a lopsided smirk, allowing his hand to linger on her back as she pulled away from him again, leaving the drink in his hand.
"Too long, Zola," he said, "Too long."
Bolo squeezed between them, heading towards a corner table. "Um...don't mind the translator..."
Isaiah took a sip of the rum drink - mixed with the juice of some sweet fruit - and continued. "I've been hiring. Are you going to be our waitress, tonight? It's the only way you're going to get to meet them all, short of hiking out to Ruhmsburg when we get back..."

IC: Zola, Blackfish Tavern
Zola definitely felt the warmth on Isaiah's cheek after she gave him the peck on the cheek. She found herself wondering if it was the alcohol, or her.
"Told you once, told you too many times, you won't find where the end of that dragon is." She smirked.
"Well, I guess I could take your table." She frowned at Bolo's intrusion, "And I wouldn't mind a hike to Ruhmsburg, getting out of this place would probably be good for me." She put her hand on her hip, "By the way, I threw in some acai berry in your drink, God knows you need to try a live a little longer. Although I think I can hear your liver crying."
She looked back at the bar where Isabella was making faces at her.
"Shouldn't you be gone, woman!" She playfully shouted, heading back to the bar.
She paused, and turned,
"I'll be back to take your orders." She gave Isaiah a little wink and resumed threading her way to the bar.

IC: And hew we were again. Blackfish tavern. The starting point of our journey only a few days ago, and now, the begginning of another adventure. I looked around, trying to find the waitress that had led us to the poster. There she was! Walking into the kitchen! I quickly headed there, weaving in and out of the crowd, untill I reached the kitchen. "Hello!" I called, staying out of the kitchen, just in case. "Remember me? We got the job, and just wanted to say thanks!"

IC: Clubber, Blackfish Tavern (Again!).
Well, at least Clubber knew what they were going to do at the Backbone Shipping Company! He squatted at a table in the Blackfish tavern, looking around at all the patrons, some of which were his new workmates; and had a large bowl of cold, minty tea before him. He nodded at one and all as they passed by, casually remembering the last few hours.
The hour or so Clubber spent in Mr. Achebe's barn at his shipping company went by pretty quietly. The duckbill, nicknamed Julius because Clubber could barely pronounce his real name, said that the human hatchling was not his Partner but his pupil; and couldn't fathom why she followed him all this way! The hatchling's name was Demetria, so cute but what an adititude! Korkoa returned with a fish he found, he said they had plenty in the house! Clubber went on to explaining some of the rules of the shipping business - at least the way he saw it - to him; and he bet the other two could use the pointers too. He explained the importance of paperwork and inventory and some of the ways to keep both aspects straight. He told them of material loss, honesty and the possibility of being robbed; and all three listened on as he made his fairly brief instructions. The hour or so passed, and Mr. Achebe and Bolo returned, along with the other humans. He had us and our carts line up front before introducing everyone. One was D.J Applejack, so Bolo translated, a dolphinback and an actor, Clubber guessed; and since Mr. Achebe fancied himself as one too, they should get along just fine! The primatively dressed human was called Kenaki, or so Clubber thought; a strange name, if you asked him. Another one was Toby Blunderbuss, another dolphinback by his southern accent. Right after all the introductions were made, Mr. Achebe began to tell us the particulars of the job; and Bolo translated for us dinosaurs.
Mr. Achebe said thier first assignment was to take some musical instruments to Sauropolis, and then take some ugly looking wooden carving to bilgewater. Then we were going to Arboriato get a load of wood bound for Volcaneum, and then we wwere going to do something else he didn't mention before going back to Rhumsburg. What Clubber didn't understand was why he insisted going to the Blackfish tavern again! Clubber hoped that the human waitress there wouldn't recognise him, for he didn't want her to feel guilty for taking his amulet!
Clubber came out of his musings just in time to see Korkoa rush up to that very same waitress as she bustled into the kitchen doors. Doesn't that guy ever slow down, he asked himself, chuckling!
He looked over to another table, where Julius and Dimetria were sitting along with a few of the other patrons. They seemed to be discussing plant remedies to one of the humans there with a noticible back arch; but that wasn't very interesting to him, so he looked another way. He saw Bolo near the bar, and D.J. just stepping up with Mr. Blunderbuss already there. The warrior was sitting beside them, scrutinizing everyone in the place like they were potential enemies; and the ones he was looking at stared back with true fear. Clubber finally decided to concentrate on his tea for the time being...
