Demetria, Black Fish Tavern
IC: Tria decided to keep her presence low-key, observing instead of interacting with those around her. As she and Julius conversed, she was only paying half of her attention. The other half was on her soon-to-be comrades. She was particularly interested in the interaction between the ankylosaur and raptor. Never had she seen such a friendship! She turned back to Julius and began talking again, attempting to bring a little more life into the conversation.

(OOC: Setting the later scene.)
Jupe South River Crossing
The Jubila river was, at first glance, larger than one would first think. In fact, it was actually one of the widest ones in the world. Almost twice the width of the Mississippi, and nearly three times as deep. So, there came the unarguable question of how to ferry people and goods across the river, as the current was too fast for construction of a bridge or use of a raft. And of course, there came the obvious solution: sauropods. Thus, a stable form of crossing was made.
Jupe, being a large town, had several river crossings to make sure people and goods could move fast and uninterrupted. There were three authorized crossings, and one or two belonging to the Black Market. Down at the South one, a particular brown diplodocus was standing at the boarding platform, wondering what he was doing here. He knew he needed food, and this was a prime place to get it, but it also seemed a place that reeked of getting ripped off.
For example, he worked nearly all day, with about two hours for rest, and barely got enough food to keep himself going, much less any to stock up on. And with this going on, he couldn't go anywhere else without going hungry first.
Finally, it seemed the sealed pod strapped to his back was full, and the door shut. With a groan, he stepped away from the platform, to the angered shouting of several rough looking humans, and slid into the water, taking a large breath before dipping his head under the water to move along more smoothly in the water. It seemed he would be doing this until he either slipped up or couldn't stand anymore.

IC: Zola, Blackfish Tavern
Shirking her duities for the time being, Zola returned with another drink for Isaiah. She was frustrated that no one else was ordering, but that was their fault, not hers. Just meant less she could get out of them as a tip. The Ankylosaurus and Achillobator were still vague, but then again, she was still wiped out from the night before.
Bar-tending always seemed to end badly for her, a detriment, if she dared to think. And, thanks to the willow bark, she did indeed dare to think.
Pulling over a chair, she straddled it, arms leaning on the back, chin on her arms, infinitely glad she put on legging underneath the standard skirt.
"So," She asked Isaiah, ignorning everyone else until they were ready to order, "What business brings you back down to the Blackfish with that scraggly group of," She paused, trying to think of a word, but her vocabulary was failing her horribly.
"Scallywags?" She decided was the best term for them, at least for now. She flashed Isaiah a winning smile and cocked her head slightly, sending her messy hair sideways.

IC: Isaiah Achebe, The Blackfish Tavern
Zola agreed to be their waitress, and Isaiah had to conceal his happiness. "By the way," she said, "I threw in some acai berry in your drink, God knows you need to try a live a little longer. Although I think I can hear your liver crying."
"Don't worry about me, darling," Isaiah said, "I've gone through my own share of rough scrapes and come out swinging. I can show you all my scars, if you like..."
She grinned, her cheeks darkening slightly. "I'll be back to take your orders." As she walked off, she gave him a wink that made his heart stop.
It wouldn't have started beating again if Bolo hadn't interjected. "I don't get it. She's got smoothe, soft skin, a clear complexion, an overly round and plump tail...no saurian, of any species, would be caught dead with her."
"I'm not sure about that," Isaiah said, watching with an odd twinge of jealousy as a raptor clicked flirtatiously at her.
He made his way to the table and watched as Korkoa went to the bar. Sitting, he meant to begin a conversation with Applejack, but Zola was back. She pulled up a chair and sat on it backwards. Even with leggings beneath her skirt, the posture was immodest. She paid no attention to the others, and Isaiah allowed himself to entertain the fantasy that she had eyes for no one else but him. "So," she said, "what business brings you back down to the Blackfish with that scraggly group of...scallywags?" She grinned at her choice of words, and tossed her hair. Beautiful, radiant smile, adorable dimples, a light in her eyes, lustrous black hair...and those legs, straddling the chair.
Isaiah crossed his legs, adjusted the napkin on his lap, and responded. "Well, we're here for a drink and to spend the night, of course, before we set off on our adventure. We've got some routine deliveries, and then I've got a special order of business with my boy Applejack, here." Applejack inclined his head in greeting. "These scallywags," Isaiah continued, "are my crew, and we'll be traveling far and wide, seeing the sights, taking in the culture. A man could get lost in the wonders of this place. Wouldn't it be a shame for you, if I never came back?"
The cry of a skybax pierced the air, and at the moment, it didn't strike Isaiah as odd. At the moment, nothing could.

"Yeah, I remember. Heck, with the value of that medallion, it's unlikely I'll ever forget you or your friend. Glad to hear you got the job, though. That's great. Here, have a drink on the house!" After finishing wiping down the bar with the rag, she mixed Korkoa a bowl of a simple but popular carnivore drink, a potent saurian intoxicant mixed with fish blood. With a smile, she lid him the bowl.
It was then that she noticed Zola flirting, again. She wondered if Isaiah could tell, or if Zola noticed him flirting back. When Zola turned her head, Isabella made kissy faces and googley eyes. Zola shouted something back at her, but Isabella couldn't hear.

IC: Zola, Blackfish Tavern
Zola nodded towards Applejack as she was introduced by Isaiah, not missing the shifting of the napkin on his lap. With a flick of her eyes, she looked down and back up, making note of the motion.
"Why, if you wouldn't make it back, I would loose my best patron. Unless, of course, I went with the scallyways, I mean crew." Zola laughed lightly, "Then, I wouldn't have to worry, would I?"
The Skybax cry brought her out of her daydream, she shot a look at Isabella, who looked equally confused. They certainly didn't have a scheduled arrival at this time, and the more moral of the Skybax pilots usually didn't come to the Blackfish. With a shrug at Isabella, she shook her head. The rider wasn't a regular, she knew the cries of those Skybaxes.
With a sigh she added, "I need a change of scenery, anyway."

IC: Clubber, Blackfish tavern.
Still Clubber sat, nursing his tea, watching the patrons of the Blackfish tavern doing about the same as he amid muted conversation and an occasional round of laughter. He didn't mind the down time; but he was anxious to be on the road again and working, what he thought he was born to do.
As Korkoa returned from where he went, he noticed the little girl watching them once more. "So Korkoa, I see you ordered already!", Clubber said as his friend sat down. "Did I ever tell you how I got all these scars?"
"Yeah, the Archaeological expedition to the Basin was a dangerous one...", Clubber began, not waiting for a reply. "Our destination was Kinan Van, or so those eggbrained scientists said. We skirted the Backbone mountains, following the foothills and ravines."
He went on."We encountered two Carnosaurs as we made our way through a pass; and had to give them all the fish we brought with us.", he looked around to scope the faces of the other patrons, who were just beginning to show interest. "Later on, just over the Forbiddens from Backwood Flats, we met up with this Allosaurus; and we tried to negotiagte, but he was just too hungry to be reasonable!", he said ernestly.
"He wouldn't hear that we had already given our fish as tribute to the Carnotaurs, and demanded one of us instead!", eyes went wide. "Things broke down right quick; and since I was closest to him, he leapt on me and started using me like a chew-toy!", some of the others gasped. "The fight was over in a few moments, though. I pounded him into next week with my tail!", he raised his clubtail to exclamate the comment.
"That's how I got these scars all over.", he turned his head and exposed a side for all to see. "I didn't get decent medical attention until the expedition returned. By that time it was a bit too late!"
"We all got a heroe's welcome from the Waterfall city Archaeological guild.", Clubber was nearing his conclusion. "They gave us medallions of honor and special certificates, making us all honorary guild members...", he paused in thought. "Too bad I gave up my medallion for food yesterday..."
Bolo sauntered by on another errand, but slowed at his greeting. "Any idea when we'll be leaving?", Clubber asked him, but Bolo scarcely slowed his pace!

IC: Zola, Blackfish Tavern
Zola recognized enough of the Achillobator's chirrup to assume that she had been asked what her name was.
With a pleasant smile, she said, "Zola."
And the Ankylosaur began to ramble, lifting his tail once or twice.
"Watch it, saurian, don't smash anything or we'll have more than that pretty bauble." She warned, frowning at the boasting dinosaur.

IC: Isaiah Achebe, The Blackfish Tavern
Bolo translated the story for the benefit of the others, and Isaiah was moved by Clubber's loss. For food? Such a meaningful gift? What a shame.
And then Zola spoke. "Watch it, saurian, don't smash anything or we'll have more than that pretty bauble."
"You guys took his medallion?" Isaiah was startled. "How could you accept that?"
Isaiah marched up to the bar, crooking his finger at the girl - Demetria - to come with him. The soldiers were busy, but the girl looked tough enough. He crossed his arms when he got there, elbowing aside some patrons.
"Well hey there, 'Zaiah," Isabelle said, "What's got you so hot under the collar?"
"You accepted a medallion as payment from one of my employees. That medallion meant a lot to him. I think it'd be pretty decent of you to hand that back to us."
"No can do, sweetheart," she said, and resumed pouring a drink. "It's payment."
"Look, it's important to him. He went through a lot to get him and you pawned it off him for breakfast. I thought I knew you better than that, Isa. Have a heart."
"I need patrons to give me compensation for the work we do. That's all he had. I took it."
"Look..." Isaiah pursed his lips, rolled his eyes. He didn't have a choice. "Look, I've got some barter credits in my cart. Let me go get them. I'll trade you those for the medallion. They have to be worth at least as much as the piece you took from Clubber." ========== She agreed, and Isaiah went outside to where the cart was parked. He removed a bag of credits that clinked and chinked as he walked right past a tall, handsome skybax rider. It struck him as slightly odd that a skybax rider should be in a place like this, but...he had other things on his mind. The medallion was important, sure, but the confidence of his crew was more important. So important that he was going to give this money to Isabella for the sake of Clubber when it was supposed to go to Lady Crumplesnoot's toughs. No bother. He probably wouldn't run into them, tonight. No, he would keep his mind in the here and now. He wouldn't think about the ramifications. He would figure it out as it came to him. And so he pushed the skybax rider aside - the man cursed in repsonse - as he strode into the bar and tossed the money at the Isabella. Breathing hard, he said, "There!" and held his hand out for the necklace. ======= The metal rang out as it bounced off of the Ankylosaurus' head armor and landed on the table.
"Congratulations, Clubber," Isaiah said, "You're an archaeologist, again." Out of the corner of his eye, he tried to gauge Zola's reaction.

Zola straightened up and stared at Isaiah as he argued with Isabella for the Ankylosaur's necklace back. With a huff, he stormed out and stormed back in, tossing Isa the bag of barter credits. With a grumpy look, Isa fished out the necklace and handed it back to Isaiah, who tossed it at the Ankylosaur.
As he sat back down, she said, "That was nice, but uncharacteristically Isaiah."
She smiled at the man, leaning on the back of the chair once more.
"Zola, back to work." Isa poked Zola in the side.
"I'll be back later tonight, I've got other tables to serve." Zola grumbled, standing up and heading back to the bar.

Isaiah watched as Zola walked away. Her perfume, though subtle, lingered behind her. He shook his head to clear it, and then turned to the rest of the crew. "So...what should we drink to?"

Cyclone had made a brilliant landing, as ever, on the roof of the tavern. Exhaling sharply, he leaped from the saddle and slid down the roof's incline, and made his way deftly down the ladder to the ground. The whole place stank of fish and oil, and the air very air seemed like it would clog his lungs. This place was disgusting, and no self respecting skybax rider, servant of all Dinotopia, would find himself here.
Unless he was in love.
Entering, found himself shoved aside by one of the bar's denizens. Typical, he thought. So uncivilized. The smoky air swirled around him, mixed with the noise of loud drunkards. And then he saw her. Zola.
She was waiting tables, but he made a beeline for her. "Hello, Zola," he said, "I've brought you some gifts."

Zola jumped slightly as Trevor's intrusion, which soured her evening.
With a scowl, she turned and faced the pilot, "Hello, Trevor," She said coldly. "I didn't think you'd bother coming back here. So sorry, but I'm very busy, so get going."
She inclined her head, glanced briefly at Isaiah, turned and went into the kitchen. Isabella glared at Trevor, who just stood there in the wake of Zola. He had come by before, and made a fool of himself. Zola had once thought she was in love, but realized he was a jerk and made a big scene in the middle of the tavern. The bouncers had escorted Trevor out and warned him never to come back.
"*chocolate* that man." Zola muttered, leaning against the wall just beside the door.

He stood, dazed. How could she treat him this way? He burst through the double doors, asking her this very question.
"Darling, please, you're too beautiful for a place like this!" She was nowhere to be seen. He turned around to find her leaning against the wall besides the door. He had sped past her. Walking back, he said, "You were torn from Sauropolis as a young child, the pinnacle of civilization here on Dinotopia! Please, allow me to take you away from here. Look...a token of my love."
From his pocket he produced a gold pendant, inlaid with jade. It was the sort of jewelry used in ancient times to seal cumspiritik. Noting her reaction, he blundered on, "Oh, no, my dear, nothing quite so presumptuous. It's a pretty thing, but no, of course I'm not proposing now..."

IC: Clubber, Blackfish tavern
Clubber returned to his tea as he ended his tale, and the other patrons in the tavern went back to thier own business. He never saw Bolo moving so fast as he clopped to the bar! All of a sudden he heard him chattering in human, and saw the waitress who served him breakfast talking with Mr. Achebe and another female off near the kitchens. Korkoa finished listening to him, then looked around the place as he sipped his own drink; then his head spun at the sound of shouting over by the bar.
The way humans get upset over the littlest of things! Clubber grunted in disgust and went back to his tea, lapping from his bowl and trying to ignore it all. All of a sudden a massive object clattered against his cranium, dunking his snout into his bowl of tea!
"Wh...!", he sputtered, sending dribbles of tea all over the table. "What was that?", he shook his head and looked around.
On the floor slightly behind his right foreleg was something shiny and on a thick chain. It looked like some kind of saurian medallion - and it looked extremely familiar to Clubber. He shuffled that leg back and pushed it closer to his head. As he dragged the thing forward with his mouth and drew it up onto the table, he smiled at what he saw!
"How about that! My medallion!", he smiled, then looked around guiltilly. "What's this all about?...", but he saw he wasn't going to get an answer anytime soon because the argument was escalating alarmingly! "Why can't everybody seek peace...?", he mumbled as he polished off his tea...
