Kami's Search
Alone
Yet surrounded by others
Who appear to be my kind
But are not
I stand apart
Unseen
Unheard
Misunderstood
Waiting
And the wind blows
The rain comes
The grass grows
I watch
Wait
Observe them
Searching for similarities
For clues
For recognition of anything that
Is me in them
Or them
In me
And they pass
Blind
And I speak
But they hear only themselves
There is a light
And I move forward
Drawing near
A comforting thing
I nestle in
Hunker down
Waiting
With eyes wide
Ears pricked
Mind prepared
And you
Are there
A mirror to me
I see you
And see myself.

::stares dumbfounded:: I love it...but am searching for Dinotopia comparison- almost reminds me of the Skybax rider's trek to the Forbidden Mountains- when the trip is over they are to become one with their skybax. But I'm probably waaay off- as I normally am. Will continue to ponder...wonderful Kami...

Thanks, FB... and as with most poetry, there are many ways to interpret it, so there's no "right answer" (just in case folks are afraid to say something, lest they "get it wrong" ).

Glad you said that Kami, as I read it earlier but was "afraid to say something lest I get it wrong."
I will re-read it with the mindset of being open to interpretation.

Re: Comments on "Kami's Search"
I see you searching for friendship, finding it within the heart of another.
I'm not sure how this relates to Dinotopia, perhaps the attitude of 'cumspiritik' meaning breathing together.

My turn-
I'll jump from my perch and add my version-
We all came to The Island searching for what we could not find around us- friends, acceptance, a community, understanding of ourselves and our relationship to a larger whole. To be blunt: we don't always fit or feel welcome within the society we find ourselves. Everyone feels this way from time to time, and they either learn to adjust and make allowances and compromises to themselves as persons or to their lifestyle in general. We were lucky- we came across an innocent looking "kids" book that reached in and connected with each of us in a very distinct and profound way. There was something in it that resonated with a truth deeper then modern society could offer. Dinotopia is not the end of the journey- but a set of tools that allow us of The Island to make our way through this world while holding on to concepts of Honor, Love and Responsibility.(just to name a few)
We are weary to speak of our feelings and relationships to those not of The Island- with good sense. It was the very act of being labeled and pushed aside that lead us here in the first place. We share a common bond, an ideal; And those are always looked upon with suspicion by the larger faction outside of it.
Dinotopia is a mindset; a philosophy that uses certain metaphors and backdrops to tell a larger story. It is a Sun stone that we are each attuned to- it nourishes us and we feed it our energy in the forms of friendship and community. We were first attracted to the books because were already of The Island- we just needed a map to find our way back.

Wow, snipe that was a very good "sum up" I totally agree with it! Thanx houkan, for not making me feel so bad lol, anyone know how i can delete my post, without deleting the whole lot? I liked reading everyone's views on the poem, which of course I think is exceptionally brilliant Kami. I was just thinking about your poem, and the dinotopian relevance.. and I thought it kinda reminded me of a hatchling in an egg.. it can hear people from outside, but they are just ouside it's shell and can't be reached. Then it hatches, and hopes that it'll will see the "one" it's mother.. Lol just a though, like I said I think I go along with Snipe's the best though so far.

Well, Snipe, your interpretation of Kami's "Search" sounds as poetic as the poem iself. I believe that you both have beautifully described the search which drew us together and the connection we all felt when discovering one another.

Re: Comments on "Kami's Search"
I'm thinking it could be about a dolphinback first arriving on the island...not understanding their surroundings, but finally realising (yes...that's...how you spell it.) they can fit in, or finding a place on the island they can fit into.
Though when i first read it, i took it in a more literal sense. Sad if it's true, isn't it?
