This was posted to the Dinotopia general message board for the T-shirt contest. Thought others here would enjoy seeing it. I worked out the design but Kada takes credit for the awsome art/inking.. Opinions/thoughts?

Well, it looks like the ToP is quite the gathering oplace for talented artists.
One thing though, would the saurian really sit like that? I thought it would be more of a roosting sort of recline.
Also, any plans to colorize it?

As far as sitting position it's hard to say. As a person when I'm "laying back" reading a book I can get into all kinds of interesting positions that are comfortable for the moment. I've also seen my dogs take on some of the silliest sleep positions over things but it must of felt comfortable for them to do it. As far as the saurian, leaning back in the grass aginst a rock watching a briliant star. Perhaps streached out in the grass more important he wanted him and his life partner to feel "close" for that special moment by getting more down to her level. The single color was designed for the t-shirt contest. Though Kada may well color a pre-inked version. WhiteShepherd

I would love to see a colored version of this!
As for the sitting position, I figured this dinosaur was inspired by Zippo and Zippo sat sort of like that at one point in the movie. Still, brilliant job with the composition. I can't wait to see more work from the two of yoU!

Azonthus is correct. I got the idea from Zipeau/Zippo sitting with one leg over another in a chair while reading. I might. Didn't think about it. Never colored a Dinosaur before, much less drew one before this one! I used Zippo as my guide.

From Azonthus I will see what I can come up with for the coloring of this piece. I use Prisma pencils and Prisma markers mostly now.
He is the one that usually gives me all my ideas when I don't have any of my own, like for this piece! LOL
Actually, Azonthus, we kept pausing the movie in spots so that I could get a good reference of Zippo's head/eyes, 'hands' and feet. Also the way the legs were positioned as digitigrade. And the markings. Then I saw some other dinos and realized I made this character all 'smooth' instead of looking rough skinned as I don't think they have scales per say?

My knot pterothingy thing was intended for the T shirt contest. It still is if you want it. It only ended up on the Calander because November still needed a picture.

Sure why not? The original post of this should have been a reply to the original T -shirt contest but I don't know how to fix it so yes, this new thread will do.

Azonthus asked for a colored version. Though this one was colored in PSP 9 and mostly with photos I have taken through the years I have been living in Ohio I also plan to color it by hand as well. We submitted the black & white version for the silk screening because of the single color is easiest to work with and also cheaper than more then one color to print. Enjoy! For a larger image click hereI also started downloading images of other artists renditions of dinosaurs so I can start learning how to draw them more realistic. I know this is my first dinosaur but I do plan on creating more!

*smiles* I didn't use models I actually used the pics IN the art piece. I used a photo I took ahwhile back of the red clouds streaming across the sky for the background, taking out the trees. I used a rock picture I took for the rock, of course. **I take pictures of EVERYTHING** LOL I used an autumn tree with yellow for all the trees. I used a picture from one that I took out at Saoirse's folks farm for the grass. Lets see, what else did I use,.... I used two photos of clouds I had taken for the mountains. The water was one that came with PSP 9. The rest was sketched by hand except the star which I made in PSP 9 and used a "eyecandy 2000" 'jiggle' on the body and another eyecandy thing for the star. Phew.... it took me 2 1/2 days to do it. Getting just the right photo for just the right look and feel. And the original has 37 layers! As I said above, I am always taking pics. Closeups of trees, tree trunks, grass, leaves, table tops, flooring and walls at restaurants, if they seem interesting and I can use them later in something, clouds, clouds/sunrays, rainbows when I can catch them. I have a TON of those. I am also working on my new avatar for here with my little 26 plushy. She is just soooo adorable! You will be seeing it either tonight or in the morning. And THANK YOU both for your kindness. I do plan on coloring it by hand as well. I mainly use Prisma pencils and Prisma markers, until I can try my hand at the acrylics again. I do have more artwork but they aren't dinos. Sorry.

Besides books, the other best thing for teaching yourself is the internet. I download TONS of pics of things I want to try and draw. Last night I was downloading a lot of pics of other artists works of dinos, since there are no real ones, to use for references.
