I'm afraid I agree with Eb Dr in this one. I too was very abusive in my past because of the things I've been though. I had my whole town in an uproar. I got in trouble with the police once and the fire department too. Yes, I was a pyromaniac. I remember setting the woods ablaze with a magnifying glass. Then I moved from there in '93 and saw a counselor for my problems for 2 years. It helped me control it a little. And then I moved in to the place I'm at now. Feeling better. In the same year I moved it here in Carmichaels, I came to the Lord. HE helped me overcome my problems. Now I feel at peace now. I don't get in to trouble as much as I did. He changed me for the better. Something the counselors couldn't do.

I am not trying to justify what the people did...but you have to see it from their Point of Veiw, and have an open mind. Having an open mind is not just taking one complete side, it's about questioning it, and the other side too. And another point...if we murder cows pigs and sheep etc, are we really any better?

I'd like to see less hate please. You may not think you are being hateful, but It is for the recipiants to decide, not you. I respect your position. I understand that my words can come across as hate, but as I said earlier, the notion of dropping an A-Bomb on that fishing village was pure emotion and not meant to be an actual solution. I am not for hunting Dolphins, I am very much against it, but It isn't all Japanese, and even Europeans hunt whales and dolphins. I never said otherwise. If the article was about Norwegians clubbing baby seals, I'd have nasty words to say as well. And also, many very poor Japanese are resorting to this because they don't have the money to do anything else. I'm sorry, but It really shocked me how you could judge these people like that, when you obviously do not know the whole or full story. You know what environmental/animal groups have told us, and they are obviously going to be biased. I do not condone hurting animals, and I have been known to smack a boy who was taunting a cat in a sickening way, but that was wrong of me when I found out the boy was being pysically abused and needed to take his anger out on something. True, and the government probably should decentralize the economy away from Tokyo and spread the prosperity more evenly around the island chain. But as it is, mobility isn't an outrageous concept. If they can't make an alternative living in their coastal town, then there are other places of opportunity in Japan that they can take advantage of. You can see their side here: A Message From TaijiAs you can see, they talk at least as much about pride and tradition as economic necessity. I thought this paragraph was particularly telling: "Although Japan is one of the world's most advanced industrialized nations, there are a number of small communities which are still dependent on traditional subsistence activities based on natural resources and maintain traditional values which contrast sharply with the increasing influence of urban and western values. Taiji is one such community, and we want it to remain that way and we are trying so hard for that." Emphasis mine. It doesn't seem they even want to consider anything else. Hence, I have no sympathy for their plight. Whaling and dolphin-fishing are professions that need to die out. Oh look, anouther nugget of wisdom from our friends at Taiji: "The nature is so diversified that our approaches to the nature need to be diversified." So, apart from factory fishing, irresponsible drift nets, and general pollution, we should add spearing to the mix. And another point...if we murder cows pigs and sheep etc, are we really any better? Dolphins are much smarter than livestock. In fact, I'd say they're marginally sentient. And livestock populations can be controlled and maintained by those who raise them. It's nowhere near the same. One more question...have you ever met one of these people? Just wondered. Not personally, but if the town website is any indication, they're probably stubborn and set in their ways. Oh, I'm sure they're the same as any other people around the world - nice, mean, generous, greedy, etc. - but their profession needs to go extinct. - Aric
