Colours on Dinotopia

Just wondering....
Dinotopia seems to be a very colourful place. The signs and much of the clothing seems to be very brightly coloured. So what plants or minerals ar used to provide the colours? do such things as coloured pencils and crayons exist on Dinotopia, or is pictoral art restricted to brushwork and charcoal sketches?

Well, you know there has to be colored paint for Dinotopians to paint everything so pretty. If they can paint signs, then I see no reason that there couldn't be famous painters. I also think they could have something like pastels, but I don't know about colored pencils or crayons. However, there could also be colored inks.
Carmine is used to make red, berries could be used to make various dyes, and there are many other plants that make different colors. OOH! Next time I go to the 'natural foods' store, I'll check out the ingredients on the organic eye shadow. Those may give hints to what could be used to make colors!

Indigo? I've heard that is used to make blue dye. Here is a web site that I found that has some tips on making your own natural dye colors:

Cool, I'd heard Carmine as a name but...

...but didn't know it was anything else.
I remember another post about this from a while back but not what we mentioned in reply to it, darnit.
sorta semi-related, I wonder what pigments the humans would use for the equivelant of outer world makeup or lipstick or such things.

I know I'm probably going to get a lot of ragging off this one, but i do know that they make natural and organic lipsticks out of natural ingredients, such as carnauba wax, beeswax, almond oil, rose oil, or castor seed oils, mixed with mica, or iron oxides or other ingredients to get vibrant colours without a lot of the tastes or greasy feelings, they say, of commerical lipsticks.
