In "Survive!" the boy (can't remember his name, sorry) had a father who was a healer. His father mainly used plants for their medicinal properties. What plants that would grow on Dinotopia might produce theses medications?

If they had willow tree's they could make a painkiller from the bark of the tree, its similar to asperin.

I don't know what they use in styptic pencils but Arnica powder worked for us at school to stop bleeding ffrom grazes, that's a herb. Its also good for bruising. Lavender water is cooling for burns. Cinnamon and Ginger- I'm sure I've seen that in a Dinotopia book - are also Antiseptic. Arrowroot helps you stop feeling sick. And Feverfew besides the Willow brings down temperatures. Consult a real herbalist or Pharmacist for the rest.

I suppose that there would be plants that we would recognise as I'm sure some would have been carried by dolphinbacks.
Painkilling herbs include powdered willow back (known today as aspirin)
Antibiotic- For herbivorus Dinos possibly Greater
Celandine as tortosies eat it when they are suffering from snakebite (hmm... since I drink snakey B at the union wonder if it would do as a hangover cure...)
Antiseptic- Who needs herbs when Urine (yes I'm talking pee) is a fantastic antiseptic -so I've heard.
Sedative- Gingko/lavender
Cough soothing- hot Honey and lemon drink.
Decongestent - Eucalyptus or mint, or whatever Dino dung is the smelliest!

I've read that wolves seek out and eat a plant called spicebush when they're snakebitten.
Here's some more ideas for herbal remedies in alphabetical order: Acacia-controls parasites, eases diharrea and internal hemorraging, also treats skin diseases.
Aloe Vera-gets rid of worms, relieves headaches, soothes chest pain, burns, sunburns, ulcers, and treats skin disease and skin allergies.
Basil-excellent stuff for your heart!
Balsam Apple-a laxative, treats skin allergies, soothes headaches and toothaches, works on asthma, is a liver stimulant, encourages digestion.
Bayberry-stops diharrea, soothes ulcers, shrinks hemorrhoids, repels flies.
Caraway-treats gas and flatulence, aids digestion, freshens breath.
Cardamon-aids digestion, treats flatulence.
Cedar Oil-soothes sunburn, repels mosquitos, horseflies and other biting insects-plus smells great!
Colchicum-soothes arthritis pain, and reduces swelling.
Cubeb Pepper-treats larynx and throat infections, urinary tract infections, gum infections and ulcerated gums, and soothes headaches.
Dill-treats gas and flatulence, relieves dyspepsia, and acts as a laxative.
Fenugreek-reduces swelling, good for your liver and pancreas, helps with asthma and other respiratory disorders, and gently cleans the stomach.
Frankincense-treats throat and larynx infections, stops bleeding, cuts down on phlegm, helps with asthma, and controls vomiting.
Garlic-gives energy and strength, focuses the mind, treats flatulence, aids digestion, shrinks hemorrhoids, and freshens breath.
Henna-not just a skin and clothing dye-although I suspect that more than a few Dinotopian women and/or men would use it for that purpose-, it also has astringent properties, stops diarrhea, and helps open wounds to heal and close faster.
Ipecac Syrup-induces vomiting to expel poison.
Juniper Berries-aid digestion, soothes chest pain, and soothes stomach cramps.
Licorice-as a pure herb, acts as a mild laxative, cuts down on phlegm, soothes and treats chest and respiratory problems, and is good for the liver and pancreas.
Marijuna-a pain killer.
Mustard-induces vomiting-namely, if someone's ingested poison-, and relieves chest pain.
Myrrh-stops diarrhea, relieves headaches, soothes inflamed gums, toothaches, and backaches.
Onion-induces perspiration, prevents colds, soothes sciatica-which is when the main nerve in your leg gets all buggered up and pinched, causing agonizing pain-relieves chest pain, soothes congestion, and is good for your cardiovascular system in general.
Mint-aids digestion, stops vomiting, freshens breath, helps stop flatulence, decongestant.
Sandalwood-aids digestion, stops diarrhea, soothes headaches and the pain of gout.
Sesame-soothes asthma.
Tamarind-laxative.
Thyme-pain reliever.
Tumeric-closes open wounds faster.
Opium Poppy-relieves insomnia, relieves headaches, an anesthetic, soothes respiratory problems, deadens pain.
And honey it must be stated, is a wonderful antiseptic, and makes a good dressing for wounds. No bacteria can grow in honey, and that's a fact. Some cultures also believe that things that are sweet and delectable to the living are foul and bitter to evil spirits, so I wonder if honey could be used in protective salves sometimes.
If I think of any more natural remedies, I'll let you guys know in another post.
