In the light of the constantly reappearing posts with nonsense and links to Chinese pages that mess with teh tables and somehow manage to be in locked and adming access only posts like the Rules, I have made the board members only. It could be temporary, I don´t know but I´ve already banned 3 different IP´s of this guy and its not working so I´m sorry to do this but I have no choice. It´ll have to wait untill Az has time to look at it or someone else comes with THE suggestion. Chris scanned the board yesterday and then it was still free of viruses but the spammer guy keeps coming back with links...

A pretty drastic measure, but should work. Probably fixes more problems since most of them seem to stem from guests. But even so, I agree it should only be temporary. Just leave it like this for a few weeks though, and that guy should give up trying, or he'll find a way to bypass it, whichever comes first.

I know its drastic but I didn't know anything else I could do to stop it. Blocking wasn't working... I don't want it permanent either, it scares off newbies if they have to register without first seeing the board.

I think this members only thing is great in a way. ;D But like Vorchia said "it scares off newbies if they have to register without first seeing the board."
And for some newbies that are not allowed to have E-mail accounts because of restrictions from there parents.

It is also possible to make any seperate forum 'members only', 'admins only' or password protected. I can play with it. How long should we keep this whole board 'members only', two weeks, three? I can't help those who can't email... Technically all you need is to allow ONE email to arrive to make the account then you can hide it from vieuw in the profile. But parents will worry anyway as they can't tell we're insane but harmless over here. And still, any suggestions for board improvements and or ideas about how to deal with any possible spammer, troll, hacker are welcome. I see Dwaggie repaired his RP! I kinda blundered yesterday trying to adapt the misc rp forum into 'dragon RP' then trying to create a new misc rp and ended up with twin boards who BOTH changed if I tried to fix ONE... It was very odd, then I tried to delete one et voila, both were gone and it doesn't have a 'restore baord' option, ahhhhh!! Whoever said it was SAFE to give Vorchia power??? Az sure takes great risks there. lol (I suspect she has the board's coding saved somewhere.) BDSP Vorchia

It may be drastic, but I agree with her measures. Sometimes, it takes something like this to get people to behave themselves. Granted, whoever is doing it could get an account and we'll have to continue blocking him, but we'll just do what it takes. If needbe, I'll appoint more Mod's to help take care of the problem posts. Thanks for taking care of the mess before I even saw it, Vorch! You are exalted;)

Have you tried blocking the guy's ISP? Seeing as how this guy can use different IP addresses and thus banning each one will be of no use, perhaps blocking the ISP or his server (assuming you can tell at all) might be better.
Also, is there a way to make this a members only board without having to shut it off from view? It's one thing to make it members only. It's another to make it so that newbies can't see anything of what goes on here.
If not, then it's probably time to switch to a php format...

EDIT: BTW, who are these new members who sign up and never post? There ought to be some sort of policy where you get your account deleted if you don't post your first one within a month or something. It's kinda ridiculous. How hard is it to participate in the board once you've signed up?
Or could it be that they're having the same problems that Lady Jess had?
In any case, unless they've gone to the administrators with their problems, it's clear they're not going to be a part of this community.

The people that are signing up are probably people looking to see what's on the board, but not liking what they see, and leaving. It's also possible that they are guests that watch the board from a distance, but don't participate, and are only signing up, just to continue watching.
Also the board dosen't have to stay members only forever (but you know that), just until the spammer gives up, which has probably already happend...might as well keep it on a bit longer to make sure, though.

I had attempted making the explination forum/post visable to everyone, but it wasn't working, so I deleted it. I'll look into making the forum viewable for everyone, but only Members being allowed to post. Gimme a bit to play with the settings

That would be great Az, You can see it, you can't post. This will give people a chance to see what this place is like. And if they like it they could sign up, If there parents allow them to have an account. I know how that can be. When I was living with my Dad I wasn't allowed to sign up for anything.
BTW, for the people that aren't allowed to have any accounts, they could ask a member to put it up for them for the time being.

;D Yay! It works! I had to go through and modify each board to only allow members to post new topics and reply to topics, then make the board public again. Did you guys k now we have 19 forums? Yup! That many. Crazy...
