Hi everyone!
So, did anyone watch the inauguration of Obama? ;D I liked the speech and am very curious as to what he will go and DO with all the thinsg he mentioned, it seems he wants to change a LOT. I especially wonder how he will solve the messes in Iraq and Afghanistan and the economy. I mean, look at other presidents who 'inherited' a war started by a predecessor. The speech was very postive and I'm looking forward to seeing what will come. I really hope he can make some changes for the better and get your poor economy back on the rails again. Opinions anyone? I'm very curious as to how his presidency will develop.

So, did anyone watch the inauguration of Obama? ;D I was still asleep (I'm in Hawaii, remember) when it happened, so I didn't get to see it live. However, I did see it on the web and it was very inspirational. One thing though, I really can't point to one one or two memorable quotes; nothing like Kennedy or Roosevelt. You have to see the whole speech to appreciate what he's saying. I liked the speech and am very curious as to what he will go and DO with all the thinsg he mentioned, it seems he wants to change a LOT. *shrug* We'll see. I especially wonder how he will solve the messes in Iraq and Afghanistan and the economy. I mean, look at other presidents who 'inherited' a war started by a predecessor. I'm not entirely sure Iraq is solvable. Iraq is stable for now, but that's because of troop levels and because we're paying off tribal leaders not to attack us. Once we're gone, I'm not sure peace will stay. As for Afghanistan, dedicating more monetary efforts into rebuilding that country's infrastructure would be a good idea, but the bad economy makes that look rather unlikely. Unless Obama plans on adding those billions onto our debt. The speech was very postive and I'm looking forward to seeing what will come. I really hope he can make some changes for the better and get your poor economy back on the rails again. I'm not entirely up to speed on his programs, but part of what he wanted was to build a new energy-infotech infrastructure across the country. I heard this was supposed to generate a couple million jobs. Of course, we've already lost almost that many jobs already, and will probably lose more in the year to come..... *shrug* We'll see. Opinions anyone? I'm very curious as to how his presidency will develop. At the very least, we can hope that things don't get any worse than they already are. Overall, he said stuff that I liked. He said he'll restore science to its rightful place. Presumably this means getting rid of Bush's appointees in the National Science Endowment and put in people who don't buy into Intelligent Design or Global Warming Skepticism. I also like the part about keeping a watchful eye on the Market and not favoring just the prosperous. I also really like the part about helping poor nations do better. Presidents as of late have helped developing countries as a matter of course, but how many promised that in their inaugural address? Oh, and Empireonline has put together this little video to commemorate Obama's inauguration. It's very cute. - Aric

There is a video on you tube called `People are going to hate Obama`I think you should watch.
People didn`t like George Bush, but they are going to hate Barack Obama says Alex Jones, an American radio show host and documentary film-maker.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=AxzjkbrZxxU
I do have an opinion, but it's something that can't be posted here. EDIT: Please don't ask what it was.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=AxzjkbrZxxU This guy is insane. He goes on an eleven minute tirade without a shred of proof. He just presents everything he says as fact based solely on the weight of his personal convictions. I was never one to give credence to conspiracy theories, and the gibbering of this clown reinforces that disposition. I mean seriously, the Anglo-American Establishment Oligarchs? WTF?! He also goes on to say that Americans haven't worshiped a president as a god until Obama. Is he kidding? During this past election cycle, there was a conservative radio talk show host saying that Ronald Reagan would resurrect in the Midwest and put this country back on track. That's definitely a cult of personality. This guy is off his rocker. And so are the people who buy into this drivel. It's really sad when people don't try to understand a complicated situation and instead resort to simple-minded conspiracy theories to imbue Purpose into the events that happen around us. The fact of the matter is, people (including those with power, money, and influence) can be stupid/selfish/narrow-minded (like everyone else) and as a result, *chocolate* happens. That's the world we live in. But instead of wanting to acknowledge the truly chaotic and complex nature of reality, fools like Jones want everything to be a part of some Sinister Design that's orchestrated by readily knowable and identifiable factors like banks and the media. To paraphrase Richard Hofstadter, we are all victims of history and circumstance, but these poor individuals are doubly cursed by both reality and their own delusions. - Aric EDIT - Seriously Barry, can we expect more of these whacky gems from you? Not all of us are into the rarefied atmosphere of shortwave radio, you know. Thus, not all of us are going to buy into these conspiracy theories. Maybe some find those posts amusing, but I think it's quite annoying. Maybe you should level the distrust you have in the "Mainstream Media" to these sources as well, hm?

IMO, though I don't normally post stuff up like this. I just thought people would like to see what the rest of the world thinks about it. It isn't a sin you know. IMO, some of the stuff you put up is kinda questionable too you know. The only difference between you and me is I just let it slide and don't comment on it. Not less I find something worth mentioning. I usually ask you or Whoever posted it to explain it better. I'm not trying to start a family feud here. Nor do I want one either. I'm really sorry if this kinda stuff up-sets you. So can we just call a truce here?

IMO, though I don't normally post stuff up like this. I just thought people would like to see what the rest of the world thinks about it. How exactly does a conspiracy nut on Russia Today qualify as the “rest of the world?” Did you not see the 200,000 people who came out to see him when he spoke in Germany? Or the Gallup poll that shows people overseas preferred Obama over McCain by 4-to-1? Just Google the words “Obama,” “election,” “world,” and “opinion,” at the same time to see what the world really thinks of Obama and his presidency. And I hope you do realize that Russia Today is a state-owned news outlet. We’re not on good terms with Russia right now, so of course they’re going to put on any schmuck who slams Obama and America. It isn't a sin you know. IMO, some of the stuff you put up is kinda questionable too you know. The only difference between you and me is I just let it slide and don't comment on it. Ooooooh, so you think you’re better than me, huh? I suppose it doesn’t occur to you that posting something invites commentary? And I should point out that your high-minded silence hasn’t been consistent over your history on this board – especially when it came to religion. But hey, if keeping silent to my remarks and announcing far and wide to the web that you do this makes you feel morally superior and like a stiff-upper-lipped martyr, then you go on ahead. I'm not trying to start a family feud here. Nor do I want one either. I don’t see a feud at all. Are we not able disagree and jab each other in an adversarial manner on occasion and not have it become a feud? Because I hope you know that I would back you up in threads and debates where I might agree with you. I'm really sorry if this kinda stuff up-sets you. Meh. I can take as good as I dish out. I would imagine that a lot of my opinionated comments may lead people to believe that I think they're stupid. [EDIT - and they'd be right a lot of the time ;D] *shrug* And seriously, what the hell are you doing awake at this time? - Aric

I'm very curious as to how his presidency will develop. BDSP Vorchia Just came across this on another board: The ObamameterIt lists 500 promises he's made and will keep a tally of how much of it he keeps. In two days he's already done 5 and compromised on 1, according to the site. EDIT - If this rate and ratio holds up (which it probably won't, unfortunately), then he will have kept 72% of his promises, compromise on 14% of them, and will be stalled on another 14%, after 143 days in office. - Aric
