~A new thing to follow. ~
The duty of all governments is to preserve and protect the civil and moral integrity of its' people, or at least that is what is included in most governmental charters currently in power as well as those whom have perished in the past. One of the paramount reasons why the expired governments met their demise was because they did not perform their moral obligation to its' people; and I see nearly every government on earth these days performing the very same acts as those who have long passed away.
There are those who adhere to opulence, boasting high civilization and great culture; and yet the opulent ones are ignoring the remainder of their population, who are forced to live in squalor. Some governments rule their people with military force, an iron fist dictating people who are treated no better than slaves. There are some governments that allow the people to decide parts of their fate, but the laws and legislature produce so many rules that these people are only free to follow the rules and pay the taxes. Some governments employ so much beaurocracy that it slows all progress that country could make to a grinding halt. Many use barbaric tactics to insure their persons of power stay in power. Many more use military force to take what they do not deserve from other countries who are more deserving of the fruits of their own labor. The ways of other governments are not unknown to me, and the civilization that I will found will not partake in these barbaric ways!
Living in my society will require members to give up everything they once knew from their former lives, trading it in for the simpler life that will be established. They will be required to square up all the affairs they are in the middle of before they can become members (I.E.: No bills of any kind. Sever many of their ties except family. Relinquish their ties with their countries of origin. Give up any wealth or property, donating it to family or friends or others before joining. This is to insure all new members start out their new lives fresh.). They must relinquish all negative thoughts and motivations, replacing them with positive ones. They must set aside their pride and learn humbleness. They must learn to live a life that is governed without money, and do away with their greedy ways. They must be willing to do the hard work required in a simple society such as this, and not be afraid of working at tasks they have never done before. They must be willing to live in peace with their families and other people, regardless of nationality, race, religion, gender, political or social preferences or any other kind of difference that one might find offensive. They must show wisdom and responsibility in everything they do, and must be willing to face any situation as it comes to them. I know this is a lot to ask from anyone, and it would not surprise me a bit if these requirements would scare off many potential members; but demeanors such as this is imperative if this society is to become better than all the rest that has gone before it or ever will be again!
Besides the apparent traumas of members joining, and the labor involved in building and maintaining the society I propose; there will be a myriad of outside dangers that would no doubt present themselves as our civilization becomes known to the world. The world is a very dangerous place, both in the natural sense and the social sense; for not only will we be challenged with the forces of nature, the other people of the world will try to influence us and make us change from what we are to what they want us to be. The world is a rough place, and the universal mindset of 'Survival of the fittest' and 'Kill or be killed, eat or be eaten' comes into play on both the social and natural sense. Mother nature will certainly throw storms, earthquakes, landslides, tidal waves, animal attacks, diseases and all sorts of other natural phenomena at us; and try to ruin the way we live in any way She can. Since there is not much we can do about that, the only thing we can do is ride those things out the best way we can and hope for the best.
Outside influence by other people, on the other hand, is something we could possibly do something about; for other people are just like us in many ways, and they might show a shred of reason that we could work with. There will no doubt be many factions that would come to us from time to time and try to sway us to their ways, either by military force or by political strategies; and they would not understand our ways and try to lead us on paths we really should not take. Being a benevolent society, it may seem easy for them to control us and convince us to live life by their rules; but it is our duty to mankind to convince them that their way is wrong if the human race is to survive its' own foolishness. I think there would be circumstances in these cases that we may find ourselves counseling the world about peace and harmony, telling them that their current state of the world could change for the better if they would only utilize the methods we use; but we would not force them to do anything that they would not do in the first place.
Other governments would not use these tactics on us - not by a long shot! They would come in, tempting us by wheedling words and false promises, threatening us with social and moral warnings; but we must stand firm and not give in to these temptations, for it is not us that are wrong but them. They would also come in with their military power to try and overthrow our way of life, forcing us with weapons of war to bow before them and live our lives the way they dictate; but still we must stand firm in our beliefs, for the first ones to raise a weapon is the first to admit they have lost the argument! We know we're right after all, and our outlook on human society is the right way; for the others in the world have been wrong all along.
In the course of time within my community, there may be people that just can not adjust to life there; causing problems of all sorts and gaining the feeling that their former life was much better after all. We will try to council these people, and make their feelings right about being here; to provide wisdom and moral support in order to help them return to the right frame of mind. If this does not work and they continue to feel the way they do, we will not give up on them; rather, we will try all that much harder to ease their minds and lead them back from their older, less constructive ways of thinking. If in all our efforts with them, these methods do not work, we will give them the option of leaving, and we will support their decision whether they choose to leave or stay. If even all this does not work and they still cause trouble, we will not punish them; but it might be necessary to banish them from the community if they become really bad. Being a fair society, we will leave them an option of returning if life in the outside world becomes too inundating to them, or if they just can not recover their former lives after being here for such an extended length of time.
The reason why we are here at all is to make life better for everyone on the planet, and to assist any one individual for the integrity of all. Humanity is a group effort, and no one person means any more or less than any other individual. We must learn to actually care for one another, and make an effort to do things for one and all. The world needs to be reawakened to this Golden Rule, for within this practice lies the human races' salvation. However, the world has forgotten this policy, replacing it with selfishness and self-centered goals; and it looks like they will not learn this on their own, so it is up to us to teach it to them.
But to teach others, we must first learn to live by it ourselves. To do this we need isolation to contemplate the wisdom of this policy, and to be so isolated; we need our own space in order to achieve it. This is why I have suggested a secluded place to establish this society, carving it out of virgin country if necessary; and build it to a shining example of what society can do if noble purposes were sought after. No one should come to us and interfere with our way of life while we are a relatively young community, and no one should try to change our way of life once we have succeeded in establishing the society; but people and things being as they are, the chances are almost certain that someone or something over time will try to change our way of life.
The great joy in living in this society would be the simple way we live, and the simple credos we would follow. One would be to treat each day like it is a new beginning, living it to the fullest in peace and productivity. Another, and more important credo, would be to live among the others like the true brothers and sisters we are. Another that is nearly as important is to use the wisdom you are born with and as you were taught throughout every waking moment of your day. We should also treat everything we do with the utmost responsibility; for taking responsibility for ones' actions, good or bad, is the sign of a truly mature individual.
However, maturity of the individual does not mean a person has to exactly act logical and serious at all times. Being mature also means being able to see oneself in the scheme of things. we are all a part of the universe, and a small part of it at that; a speck by comparison to the whole. It should not be beneath a person to feel small beside a mountain, or enjoy the wonder of a bird in flight, or be thoroughly entertained by the clouds that pass by overhead. It is a wonderful experience to witness the joys in life, and the simplistic beauties that are in abundance all around us; for one should not be so full of themselves not to enjoy the phenomena of the simple life.
Perhaps my assessment of other people is not as I fear, and we might be accepted by some people outside our community. I mean, after all, this type of civilization may be just what everyone is looking for in a government; and they are all just waiting for someone to set things in motion, and they will join us just as soon as we are established. Perhaps there wouldn't be as many out there that would join us or maybe more than that, but it would be a good thing to have allies in this cause; people who believe in upholding the Golden Rule, and would come to our support if needed.
As with all governments and seats of power, pride in where one lives is just as important here as it is anywhere else. This community is well worth living in, and others should know this; and the only way others are going to know this is if all of us do what we must to show them the way to the good life. Wherever we go, we should uphold our noble cause; and never let their ways sway our way of life. In seeing how we live and the conviction in which we live it, they will see that our way is the right way to be after all.
We should let everyone know about the right way to live. We should teach the others how to live the good life. we should instruct them on how to live a better life, and lead them away from the way of life that is destructive both to them and the whole human race. We must let everyone know that there is a better way of life than the one they are living, and show them the way toward that better way of life.
In saying this, I am not necessarily meaning to actually teach them, as a teacher instructs a student; even though that method could also be a help. I think that we could teach by example the way of life that is helpful to all. If we work at our life and go about our daily business the way we do, others will see how harmoniously we live together, and take example from that. We can show them that a simpler way of life is much better after all than one of technology, hustle and bustle, causing all kinds of stress and strife, creating anger and divisions, leading the world down to utter destruction. All we really need to do is set an example for these people, and sooner or later they will get the hint and begin to imitate us. This will spread our way of life around the world, and then a new age of man can begin!
Of course before the new age of man can begin, the old way must fade away and die; and before all that happens, the old way of man's thinking must fade so the new way of thinking can begin. Most people will probably not let their old ways die easily, and think of many ways to tout the new ways; calling it radical and wrong and say anything they can to make it look bad. They will get mad at us and try to prevent the new way from happening. They will alienate us and make war on us, both politically and with weapons; but we know we have righteousness and the good of all mankind on our side, and with this there is no way we can lose! All it takes is to be patient and not give up our ideals; for if we face their anger and alienation with humbleness and forgiveness, our cause is already won!...
