The following is from my "Tiger wearing Helmet" volume
of personal poetry.
My Heart
Feeding
on oranges that taste
like wildflowers and raw honey
Just ahead He waits
(I wait)
standing at the junction
His wings shining black
Extending
unfolding arms
hold out the prize
just within reach
Right there-
My Heart.
Intersecting lines
and overlaying patterns
pull back-
snap tight focus
as the old man winds
the clockworks
of my Heart.
Blinding white heat
with every turn of the key-
pounding
gushing
moving through the pelvis;
Snaking up the spine-
Embracing the ribcage
-into place-
My Heart.
Burning out the hollow shell
with the cold flame
nerves flash and burn out
embers marking paths
as my Heart rips
new tendrils throughout my body.
And the pain.
attempts to revert it,
feed from it-
too much
too fast.
The pain constricts the spine
spreading warm and thick-
I surrender to it's embrace
As darkness strikes.
Blackness-Holding pattern-
transition state-floating safe.
And he turns the key
and my head pounds
And he turns the key
and I cough blood
And he turns the key
and I thank him.
My Heart beats it's supreme dictation
resinating with absolute authority
I sit and listen. And feel.
Feel the sense of space,
(it's huge)
Feel the sense of time,
(it's ancient)
Feel it's contours-
it's so cold it cuts and bites
it's so dry it tears and crumbles
it's so sad it aches the bone-
And it's old. It's so old-
My Heart.
The old man smiles
and hands me the key-
and it's sealed
the cage drops
and the gate locks.
And I thank him.
And it beats and he's gone
and it hurts and I walk
and it beats and I laugh
and I walk and the tears
burn and it beats and I walk
the path of my Heart.
