SlashdotParasites That Can Control Insect MindsPosted by ScuttleMonkey on Saturday September 03, @05:32PM from the welcome-yet-another-overlord dept. Ant writes to tell us that NewScientist is running an article about an interesting parasite that apparently has the power to 'brainwash' its host. From the article: "The parasitic Nematomorph hairworm (Spinochordodes tellinii) develops inside land-dwelling grasshoppers and crickets until the time comes for the worm to transform into an aquatic adult. Somehow mature hairworms brainwash their hosts into behaving in way they never usually would - causing them to seek out and plunge into water." ------------------------------------------------------- Huh. Looks like Stargate-SG1 might have something there... - Aric

I've heard of some type of creature, parasite, that does that sort of things to certain types of crabs, too. Isn't it weird?

I heard about this too. It was mentioned on Resident Evil 4, when they were trying to explain how the giant parasites take over a human host. It also mentioned other insects that do this, but I don't know if those are real or not. (I didn't think this one was real either, until now)
