Several hundred years ago, a door was discovered. A door that led to multiple dimensions. The key to the door was considered too valuable to be entrusted to just one person, so it was separated into five parts and given to the five rulers of the land. For centuries afterwards, many have struggled to lay claim to all five pieces of the key. Most ended in failure, but some have nearly succeeded. Kegato is one piece away from completing the key, and Ryka has the final piece.
---,--'--(@
Ryka raced through the halls of the magnificent palace. But it's stunning architecture would be her tomb if she failed her mission. Clutching the pyramidal shaped object in her hand, she sprinted towards a room at the end of the hall. As she ran, the object began to glow, and a pulsating power emenated from it. The key was ready for use.
Ryka had taken a risky chance in trying to steal the four other pieces of the key from Kegato, but with the death of her mate, she no longer cared, and was desperate to stop Kegato once and for all.
She managed to acquire the other four pieces, but she made a wrong turn and found herself confronted by Kegato and his personal guard. Running from them, a well aimed arrow found its target in her shoulder, making her left arm useless.
She reached the final door and pressed her body against it. With a groan, the door slowly opened, and Ryka was greeted by a rush of cool air. The room itself was huge, but Ryka had eyes for only one thing.
A massive door, supported on invisible hinges took up the whole back end of the room. Purplish-white light seeped out from the edges and from a single diamond-shaped hole at shoulder height. She approached in awe.
"Stay where you are, Ryka," Kegato's cold voice echoed behind her. "The bowstrings are pulled taut, and the arrows won't miss this time."
Ryka turned and a wry smile crossed her lips. "You're too late this time, Kegato. We've won, and you've lost." With that, she whirled around and slammed the key into the lock.
Slowly and silently, the massive door swung open, and an intense light filled the room. Quickly snatching the key from the lock, Ryka jumped through the door and disappeared. Kegato saw this, and he too rushed forward and dove through, just as the door slammed shut... permanently.
---,--'--(@
Ryka awoke to find herself face down in the grass, surrounded by large trees and ferns. Strangely enough, it reminded her of home... before Kegato destroyed it. KEGATO!
She struggled to push herself up, but failed. Sighing, she lay back down but noticed something still clutched in her hand. It was a fragment of the key. The red color and mark of the Flame told her it was the Fire Fragment. The key had survived the trip and the other pices were scattered across the land.
'Whatever place this is,' she thought. Tiredly, she closed her eyes. Her shoulder still hurt, but the arrow was lodged in her back in such a way that prevented her from reaching it. She'd just rest for a while, then figure out what to do.
---,--'--(@
Kegato picked himself up and brushed the dirt off his armor. After checking to ensure his Katana was not damaged, he took stock of his surroundings. He found himself standing on a cliff looking out over an expansive waterfall with a city built into the middle of it. Several flying creatures made their way in and out of the city. The place intrigued him. It was also the first place he'd look for her.
"Ryka," he growled, "You will pay. I will see you suffer greatly for this."
(Kiva's note: Please refrain from the use of magic in this RP. If your character is a hybrid like mine, or has natural abilities, like Barry's dragon; that's acceptable.
Also, try to make your posts interesting. There's nothing that irks me more than replying to a post that's only one sentence long. I want to hear YOU develop this story.
Plus, I'm lenient about who controls my characters. If you want my chars to go somewhere, either move them, or give me a hint that it's what you want me to do. It's all I ask.
From one author to others: Enjoy!)

(You all wanted a backstory, well here it is. I hope it's enough. My fingers hurt. And it really DID take me 2 hours to write. I hope this helps y'all out. I'm afraid to say it, but I will: If you have any more questions, please PM me, and I'll try to answer ASAP.)
Ryka passed frequently between sleeping and waking. Each time she slept, she dreamed. They were beautiful, painful dreams. Images of her life flashed through her mind, as well as the legend of the Portal. These dreams were so vivid they forced her back into conciousness. Each time she awoke however, the pain in her shoulder was so great, it drove her back into unconciousness. Ryka slept again, and again... she dreamed.
---,--'--(@
Ryka and Lian had been so happy together. A simple farm, steadily growing enough crops to sustain them, had been enough to call home. The surrounding forest was teeming with life, so fesh game was also available. Ryka had a steady hand and keen eye with the bow, but Lian was more comfortable preparing the food that she returned with. Their life was good.
Several years after their marriage, a young warlord named Kegato assumed the throne. In a few short months, the entire land was reduced to poverty to sustain the young warrior's lust for greed and power. Taxes drained the people dry and when the citizens could no longer pay, they were simply arrested and their land seized. Such was the fate that befell Ryka and Lian.
When neither could afford the outrageous taxes, both were arrested and brought before Kegato. In a desperate attempt to save their land, and possibly their lives, Ryka offered to work off their debt. Kegato agreed. Ryka would serve in the palace, and Lian would stay on their land to tend the farm.
She was given menial tasks, but kept immensely busy. At night she managed to sneak out of the palace to join her mate. But their times together were few and far between; Ryka often having to leave him only a couple hours later so no one suspected.
During her time at the palace, Ryka stumbled upon an important bit of news. From servant gossip that floated around, she discovered the secret to the mysterious locked door at the end of the basement hallway. Kegato was mobilizing an army to march upon the neighboring kingdom to steal an important and powerful artifact. A piece of the key to the locked door.
Later that night, Ryka managed to slip away and found Lian. After revealing her information, she was amazed to see him turn pale and tremble. He untied a string around his neck and from beneath the collar of his shirt, pulled out a triangular shaped pendant. It was a sapphire-blue metal with pearlescent teardrop shaped stone in the center. Ryka stared at it in wonder.
“This pendant was passed down to me from my father. It was given to him by a dying old man in return for the care my father had provided him. The old man told him that it was once one of five parts of a key that opened a door to other worlds. My father dismissed the claim, but has kept the pendant. When he died, he gave it to me, along with the legend that came with it. I didn't think any more of it until...”
At that moment, the door to their small home was kicked open, and several guards rushed in, followed by Kegato himself. When he saw the two together, he frowned.
“So, this is where you sneak off to, is it Ryka? I grant you the chance to work off your debts, and you repay me with deception?” Suddenly his eyes widened when he caught a glimpse of the Key Fragment.
“Guards, I'll have that artifact at any cost. Bring it to me.”
Lian pressed the fragment into Ryka's hand and pushed her out the back door. “Flee, Ryka! You must not let him acquire this fragment! Go, I'll hold them off!”
Ryka grabbed his arm. “No! I can't leave without...” Lian silenced her with a kiss.
“Run, love,” he said softly. “I'll always be with you.”
With tears streaming down her face, Ryka obeyed and ran. She did not stop until exhaustion so overcame her, she collapsed in the hollow of a tree and slept for days. When she awoke, the memory of what had transpired filled her eyes again with fresh tears. Slowly and carefully making her way back home, the sight that greeted her made her body go numb.
Her home was destroyed. The land she had tended for so long had been poisoned. The house she had lived so happily in with Lian had been burned to the ground. Everything was gone. For two years hence, Ryka lived numbly through each day; empty and devoid of feeling.
Then, news got around that Kegato's war was victorious. He had acquired four pieces of the Portal Key. But he knew not the whereabouts of the final piece. It was then a plan formed in Ryka's mind. Kegato would never attain what he strived for; she would see to that.
---,--'--(@
Pain once again forced Ryka back into conciousness. As she had done before, she mentally finished the painful story that had played itself out in her mind. The successful theft of the four Fragments, the unsuccessful escape attempt, the leap of faith through the door... It all came back to her.
Again, she struggled to reamin concious. She knew she shouldn't sleep much longer; otherwise, she might not wake up again. 'Nor do I want to dream again,' she thought. Each time, it became more agonizing to see him again. A quiet sob escaped her throat.
“Oh Lian, I miss you so...”
---,--'--(@
After much trail and error, Kegato found a way to enter the City in the Waterfall. For several moments, he was awed by what surrounded him. Creatures of various shape, size, and color milled around; bartering, making their way to and fro, meeting with friends. Kegato tried to look like he knew what he was doing and where he was going, but gave up quickly.
Suddenly, a creature walked by him that, amazingly, looked similar to Kegato. The same physical shape as himself, but lacking his eyes, ears, and height. 'Claws too, no doubt,' he mused silently. He grabbed the poor man by the shirt collar and hoisted him up to eye level.
“You,” he said, “Tell me, where might I find the king of this land?”
“K-king? T-there's no king here,” the man stuttered in return. “Are y-you a D-dolphinback?”
A confused look crossed Kegato's face. “No, I'm a Nekonian. Tell me, where am I?”
“Waterfall City, Dinotopia.”
“And where might I find more information about this place... Dinotopia?”
“Try the Waterfall City Library. Everything you'll need to know is there.”
A sneering smile crossed Kegato's lips. “Yesss...” he hissed. “I hope you're right.”
Dropping the man to the ground, Kegato stalked off in the direction the man had pointed, searching for this... library.

((OOC: I’m assuming that Nekonians don’t look radically different from humans since the folks at Waterfall City weren’t gawking at Kegato. Unless of course, there are some outrageous aspects of their appearance I’m not aware of…))
Fingers of golden light poked through the canopy of the forest. Bright green foliage speckled the skies overhead while strong trunks reached out of the ground and splayed their branches upward. The forest was alive with the sounds of life. Birds, insects and saurians sang around the flora, giving the jungle a voice. A compacted dirt road weaved through the forest. Used for millennia, the soil had been compressed by countless feet, hooves, and claws. No shoot or root could penetrate the road.
A forepaw thumped down on the road. The parasaurolophus paused and cocked its head. The other sophonts in the small caravan also stopped and listened to their surroundings. Several moments passed before a young man jogged up to the vanguard dinosaur. “What is it?” the man asked.
The saurian rumbled in his baritone language. The young man understood the duckbills’ language very little. But, he did know enough to gather that Oomu had heard something out of place. The young man frowned. Considering the cacophony that permeated this place, he didn’t know how anything could be strange here.
“Hey Applejack, what’s the holdup?” called someone from the rear of the caravan.
“Oomu thought he heard something!” he called back.
Oomu snorted at DJ, to which the human rolled his eyes. “Okay, you know you heard something. But if I didn’t know better, I’d think you were delus– Hey!”
Oomu veered off the road and gently pushed through the underbrush. DJ shook his head. This was going to make them late. Oomu’s honk snapped him out of his worrying. DJ ran after the saurian and could hear others from the caravan run up behind him. While Oomu could make his way through the foliage, he was careful not to cause too much damage. This resulted in DJ and the other humans getting pelted with small branches after they snapped back from being bent by the large saurian.
Muttering to himself, DJ swung his arms in front of him, hoping to deflect some of the blows from the branches. He finally stopped when he came into a small clearing. Oomu had stopped and stood watch over something on the ground half propped up against a large tree trunk. As he realized that it was a person crumpled against the tree he darted forward. “Hey, someone needs help up here!”
More people rushed up. DJ had bent down next to the figure. The first thing he noticed was the arrow in her back. His stomach churned as he realized this might have been no accident. “Get a stretcher! We have an injured person here!” Two figures ran back towards the caravan.
Someone hovered near DJ and spoke up. “Do you know how to get that thing out?”
DJ shook his head. “No. I wouldn’t suggest ripping it out either. It would just cause more damage, I think. We should take her to Bonabba and have the doctor treat her.”
The woman on the ground mumbled softly. Both men got nearer to hear what she was saying. She spoke up again. “Just pull it out. I can’t reach it by myself.”
The two men looked at each other. DJ’s companion shrugged and started to move his hands toward the arrow shaft. DJ’s own hand shot out and stopped him. “Nyth, you fool. You don’t just pull out an arrow.” DJ started to tear strips off from his sleeve. “After the arrow is out, we need to compress the wound to make it stop bleeding.”
He folded up one of the long strips into a square pad. “Okay, the arrow doesn’t look like it’s too deep. We might be able to just pull it out without causing too much damage. I still think we should wait…”
There wasn’t any debate to be had as Nyth braced a hand against the woman’s shoulder and gently gripped the arrow shaft where it met her shoulder. She groaned as waves of pain spread out through her upper torso. Nyth’s gripped tightened and then pulled at the arrow. Without too much resistance, it came out. Having anticipated a more difficult job, Nyth pulled too hard and tumbled backward.
DJ quickly pressed the pad on the wound. She shuddered from the pain. “It’ll be okay. Bonabba is only a few hundred yards from here. We’ll get you to a doctor.”
Weakly, she replied, “Thank you, stranger…”
Exhausted from suffering an arrow hit as well as Nyth’s ministrations, she slowly lost consciousness. DJ became more concerned about her condition. She might not make it to Bonabba. The men who had gone back to the caravan came back with a stretcher. Slowly, the young woman was placed on it and taken to a wagon. DJ remained with her the whole time, keeping his hand on the pad that prevented her from bleeding to death. He wished there were some alcoholic drinks in the caravan. He might have been able to disinfect the wound with it. He looked down at the woman lying in the middle of the wagon. He noticed that her ears were a bit strange... His eyes looked away from the figure on the floor of the wagon.
DJ sighed. I need to get more sleep, he thought.

High above the area where Ryka had fallen, a large, broad shape glided overhead, near silent as it rode the warm currents of air.
The Skybax, Highsoar, was female, a young adult, but riderless now as her life partner had died sometime back. Still, she was eager to help the other Skybaxes and their riders whenever she could on missions or deliveries.
She was on a return trip from Bonabba at the moment, heading northwest to avoid the main body of the often treacherous Forbidden Mountains as she returned to the Canyon City-Pteros area. This took her very near Treetown, which was where she made the discovery.
She spiraled lower, wondering if the human was dead or alive, then spotting the movement that indicated life. She didn't land; she would only startle the human and it was better to get human help. She headed toward Treetown, and when she arrived, she circled where she could be seen, cawwing to draw attention.
She finally did land on the ground, gesturing with her great head and trying to use body language to get someone to follow her. She had another way she could have used, but she didn't want to, not unless she had to.
She managed to get airborne again and headed back toward the injured human, leading the way for the human help.
(ooc: I wasn't sure who to have following her....what time period are we in? Would Norah be there? I hope I didn't mess any of you other posters up too badly lol)

A loud bang of the door pulled Silvanoshi out of his daydream. A rather tall man with strange eyes came bursting in the Library.
"Sir! Sir! Please, try not to slam those. We just had them re-hinged," said Silvano.
"Quiet fool," Kegato sneered as he tried to grab the Skybax. "Tell me everything about this land. Now."
Silvano reared back and extended his wings as far as he could at the touch of this man. This startled the man, as well as the others colse to the Skybax. "I will tell you what you wish to know, but I don't take kindly to your tone. I can and will have you thrown out."
Kegato's voice oozed with charm and scarcasm, "Of course, I am sorry. Now, I am Kegato, and I wish to know about this land. This, Dinotopia?"
"I am Silvanoshi, and I will tell you all that I am able. You may want to take the Dolphinback classes to better aquaint yourself with the island and its ways."
Silvanoshi spent nearly an hour telling Kegato everything he could. Kegato seemed preocupied with the ruling classes and the military, along with the statiegic position of Dinotopia as compared to other countries. He became frustrated at this last set of questions and began to loudly disagree with the skybax when he said that there were no viable military targets from dinotopia, not even within the country. At this Silvano grabbed Kegato with his beak and hurled him out the door in an unususal display of hostility towards a patron of the great library.
"Crazy dolphinback. He would've been able to tell when... he... washed... Oh no." Silvano realized that this Kegato would've been at least familiar with this information had he actually came ashore in the normal fasion. The trip to Waterfall City was usually eye-opening to the newcommers. This man came from somewhere else, but he wasn't sure where.
Silvanoshi bolted out the door to catch up to the man.

(OOC: Weeeeeee! My Turn)
Mirin ran to the Gateway. What had once been a great doorway between worlds was now just a vine covered ruin. The Sidhe woman placed her slipper clad feet before her, gracefully skipping over roots and rocks in her path's way.
Mirin was one of the Gifted, one with the ability for magic. Well not so much as magic, as more telekinesis. It used to be that all Sidhe could do this, but with the closing of the Gateway, much of their fomer power was lost. There were four types of magic, telekinesis, teleportation, telepathy, and healing. There had used to be many more forms of magic, Hands of Power they had been called, but then, the Gateway had lost the Sidhe many things. Most Gifted Sidhe had one Hand, Mirin was lucky enough to posess two.
She was young for the Sidhe, only reaching her hundreth year. Sidhe were immortal, only death by poison or steel blade could kill them. And children among the Sidhe were becoming scarce. Mirin hoped to change that.
The only way to save the Sidhe was to open the link back to the old world, to what was once called Ireland. And the fragment of spell Mirin had found might open it back up, if only to that world, then only there. She hoped to open it.
Mirin stopped before the abandoned ruin. In the center of unused store houses and inns, sat the Gateway. A tall simple stone archway, that looked no more ordinary than other door's. But every Sidhe new different, and Mirin was no fool.
"Ok, time to save my people." Mirin mumbled under her breath, stepping under the arch. She took a deep breath, and said the spell fragment, clearly and loud.
"May what was once, be again, and let the Gate of Worlds be opened!"
For a moment nothing happened, then Mirin felt more than heard the silence of the Universe listening, and was suddenly elsewhere!
Mirin stood in a hustling crowd of a large City. She smelled mist, and heard the sound of crashing water. The clothing of these people seemed similar to her green dress and auburn shift, but Mirin could see the coursness of the plant fibers that made it. Not Sidhe then.
She suddenly realized what these people were. Humans! So they did exist. Mirin brushed her dark red hair, a red of rubies and blood in the sunlight, behind her pointed ears, and walked up to one of the stalls.
"Excuse me kind sir, but where am I?" She asked politely. The man seemed a little flustered at the question, but answered quite kindly.
"Why, your in Waterfall City dear. Where else would you be?" Mirin was surprised at the answer, and was about to ask where she could find some more information on this strange new world when suddenly a large beast made its way into the square.
Mirin gasped at the sight. What a place she had ended up in. She turned back to the salesman. "Where might I find some help and Information on this world?" She asked him.
"You might try the library." The man replied. And pointed to the large building that over shadowed the city. Such wonders.
Mirin made her way to the Library. And was there to watch a large, winged creature toss a man out onto the sidewalk. She rushed to his side.
"Sir, are you all right?" She layed her left hand on his shoulder, ready to heal if nessesary.
"Don't touch me." The man said, and Mirin noticed his catlike ears, and odd eyes which reminded her of her own tri-colored ones. The man rose to his feet, and brushed Mirin away. She was only shorter than him by a few inches.
"Oh, so your that kind of person." Mirin said, the forest green specks of color in her eyes beginning to glow with power. Then the man noticed her own eyes and ears.
"I apologize. I am Kegato, kind lady. And you might be?"
Mirin could hear the fake charm in his voice, yet she responded "I am Mirin, daughter of King NicEssus of the Sidhe Kingdom, weilder of the Hands of Movement and Healing, and newcomer to this world. Tell me, are you native to these lands?"
(OOC: Sorry Kiva. I know you didn't want spells, but I needed some way for Mirin to get to Dinotopia, and thats all you'll hear of the spell ever again. It wasn't really a spell anyways, more of a trigger phrase. I hope you don't mind.)

(Highsoar, I'm sorry, but I couldn't figure out how to fit you into my post this time. I didn't know what to do since apparently I was being taken to Bonabba and not Treetown. You were just too far away.)
Ryka hissed loudly in frustration. Stupidly, she had tried to extract the arrow herself, and had only made the situation more painful. At least she had managed to drag herself into a sitting position. Slumped against a tree was hardly what she would call “sitting,” but it was better than lying face down in the dirt.
She had managed to get her fingers around the shaft of the arrow, but pulling it out was impossible. She couldn't even break the sturdy wooden shaft. 'Curse him!' she thought, angrily. 'Curse him to the Inferno!'
Suddenly, she was aware of a sound behind her. No, not sounds... Voices! A flicker of fear shot through her mind. Could it be that Kegato had found her? Focusing more, she could hear another voice. No, it wasn't Kegato; these voices were different. She listened for a while. Apparently, they were arguing about whether or not they should remove the arrow in her back. One was for it; the other advised against it. She couldn't take it anymore.
“Just pull it out,” she said, weakly, “I can't reach it by myself.” She was aware of them discussing more about the extraction. At least one of them had the forethought to make a bandage.
Ryka felt a hand grasp the shaft of the arrow and tighten its grip. With a sharp jerk, the arrow was pulled out. A wave of agony blinded her momentarily, and it was amazing that she managed not to cry out. She did, however, manage a pitiful “Thank you.” The searing torment did not diminish, even as they carried her to a wagon, and transported her to a strange village nearby.
---,--'--(@
After finishing his examination, the doctor approached DJ.
“Where did you find this extraordinary creature, young man?”
“Just outside the town, sir. Oomu was the one who actually found her, though. Is she going to be all right?”
The doctor smiled. “She should be just fine. You did well in removing the arrow when you did. Had it stayed in much longer, she would not be alive.” He glanced back at the sleeping figure in the nest-bed. “She'll awaken soon. Stay here and look after her until I get back. If she does awaken, talk to her. Try to get some information out of her; but try to restrict her movement. I don't want any more damage done to that shoulder.”
The doctor left and DJ sat in a chair near the bed. Sure enough, Ryka awoke about 20 minutes later. It took a few moments for her to get her bearings, but when she saw DJ, a confused look crossed her face.
“Hi,” he said, softly, trying not to alarm her. “How are you feeling?”
She groaned. “I'll live,” she said warily. She looked at him a little closer, then almost silently sniffed the air. “It was you, wasn't it? You were one of the two that helped extract the arrow.”
He nodded. “The name's DJ. DJ Applejack. But either name suits me.”
Ryka raised an eyebrow, but said nothing. An uncomfortable silence permeated the air.
“So...” DJ stammered, “What's your name?”
“Ryka. Just Ryka. And that name suits me just fine.”
DJ chuckled at her serious sense of humor. He was about to say more when Oomu stuck his head in the open window and honked a greeting. At the sight of this unknown creature, Ryka practically flew into a panic. She scrambled out the window; and, using her sharp, retractable nail-like claws, scaled the outside wall to the roof. There she crouched at the peak, back arched, hissing angrily at this strange giant reptile.
Meanwhile...
Kegato could barely contain his fury at having been thrown out of the Library like a common peasant. And by an animal of all things. It didn't matter if it could talk. His instincts were to march right back in there and demand satisfaction, but his diplomatic training prevailed. Better to hold back and try a different tactic.
Luckily, Kegato had been wearing his armor, otherwise he wasn't sure what damage the creature's beak might have done to him. Only his pride was hurt. And to make matters worse, a woman had run up to him, inquiring about his health. The embarrassment was more than he could stand. Gruffly, he brushed her off and stood on his own.
“Oh, so you're that kind of person.” The coldness of her tone surprised him. He turned and looked at her and was shocked.
She was beautiful. Never before had he seen such exquisite feminine elegance in all his life. For a few moments, he was speechless, but soon managed to recover. Mustering all his charm, he smiled.
“I apologize. I am Kegato, kind lady. And you might be?” Strangely, his voice sounded fake in his ears. He hadn't wanted it to come out as such, but it was too late. She reacted to the insincerity of his tone.
“I am Mirin, Daughter of King NicEssus of the Sidhe Kingdom, wielder of the Hands of Movement and Healing, and newcomer to this world. Tell me, are you native to these lands?”
Kegato shook his head. “Nay, Lady Mirin. I too, am new to these lands. I am Lord of the Northern and Eastern lands of Nekonia in the Terran dimension. I arrived here via a portal that was a protected secret in my palace.” Quickly, he told her the current events that had transpired shortly before, and shortly after arriving.
He was interrupted by the appearance of the bird-like talking creature that had thrown him out only moments before. Snarling, he backpedaled a few steps before dropping into a springing crouch. From the underside of the gauntlet on his left arm, he produced a deadly sharp looking Kunai knife. Bringing his hand across to his right shoulder, he held it ready in a throwing position.
“Returning to add injury to insult, are we? Really, I thought you had more tact than that...”
(Don't worry about it, Sil. I'm not gonna hold it against you. An interesting bit of trivia I'm not sure you know about. Did you know the word "mirin" is a type of 'sweet rice wine' in Japanese? Not sure what it has to do with your character, but I thought you might have been interested.)

(Just so everyone knows, Highsoar just put the timeframe for the story in the late 1800's. Hey, she's been in previous RP's with Az and the Dennisons time is Az's time! At least, that's my line of thinking on the whole thing. Because it's easy and I'm lazy, I'm resorting to Az, yet again. Also, please excuse the poor quality of this post. It's after midnight a nd my brain is not working well.)
Az had been taking a small vacation in Bonabba and was getting ready to head back into the Rainy Basin when Bonabbas healer came searching for her. He knew of her affinity for archery and ability for finding new and interesting ways of being injured. Thinking she may have some knowlege of arrow wounds that he may not posess, he wanted to speak with her.
Az considered his query for a moment before replying. "Well, as long as the arrows out and the area is kept clean and free of infection, there's not much else anyone in my clan does for arrow wounds. You have to keep in mind that we who live in the Basin don't have quite the level of medicine you do. Still, I wouldn't mind seeing her and maybe talking to her. What was she doing in the Basin that she was shot by someone? There aren't many clans who take to weapons the way mine has and she was in the wrong part of the Basin to have had a run in with my clan!"
"She's back at my infirmary. I left her in the care of Applejack and Oomu, so she should be fine for now. Please, feel free to drop in and visit her whenever you wish." The raptor nodded. "Now is good. I plan on heading back to my clan tomorrow, so I don't have too much time left in the more peaceful parts of Dinotopia. At least, not until the next blue moon!"
The healer smiled and headed back to his patient, with the small velociraptor following at his side.
When they reached his pod house, they were both quite surprised to find the patient on the roof and a human and parasaurolophus looking up at her. Az just looked up there, curious as to what would have caused such a strange situation.
"Breathe Deep!" she called. "I'm Azonthus, leader of the Sharpclaw. Is there anything I can do to convince you to come down from that roof before you fall?"

(OOC: No Kiva, I had no idea. I seriously thought the name had come from my own head. And, Weeeeeeeeee you think my chary's pretty!)
Mirin saw the blade slide out from Kegato's sleeve. She reacted quickly, moving her right hand involuntarilly. The blade shot from Kegato's hand and aimed directly at Mirin. She wasn't scared, it stopped only a hairsbreadth from Mirin's face, Mirin then turned the blade in mid-air to balence on her fingertip.
"Turning weapons onto unknown creatures, you have more problems than your voice portrays." she told him, and when she saw the shocked look on his face, smiled quite a sinister grin. Her eyes glowed with power, the golden sunburst and emerald backdrop shown like the precious minerals they copied. The forest green specks sparkled like spruce branches covered with dew.
"Not what you expected?" She taunted. "I told you, I have the Hand of Movement, or in words you might understand, Telekinesis."
She turned the knife so the blade rested nicely in her palm. She then presented it back to Kegato. He took it reverently, looking at this Sidhe woman like he would look at a god. The Sidhe generally had that effect on people.
"Now, what could this creature have done to you to make you act so beast-like?" She helped Kegato to his feet, making sure that he returned the blade to it's sleeve. With her eyes slowly returning to normal, she heard Kegato tell her what the beast had done. When he was finished, she calmly turned to the large, bird-like creature standing on the steps before them.

Silvanoshi stopped on the steps to scan the crowd for Kegato, and, upon seeing him, noticed him let fly the dagger from behind his shoulder. When he saw the woman step in front of the dagger path, he lept toward the pair. He saw the girl stop the dagger and give it back to Kegato in wonder. As soon as Kegato took his eyes off her, Silvanoo noticed him draw back the dagger for a second strike.
Silvano knew that the only way to keep him from trying this was to crate a scene, but not being able to yell in common or dinotopian and still be understood, he reverted to his native language to attract enough attention to keep Kegato from trying it again.
Silvano's gambit to attract attention worked, almost too well. He got enough people's attention to postpone the attack as he rushed toward the pair. He also attracted the attention of a few of the Skybax riders in town that did not make their home in Waterfall City, which posed the problem that they probably did not know that a Skybax worked in the Great Library. This wouldn't have been a problem if the Skybax had been saying things considered "polite." Some of the loudest and most piercing in the skybax language were either bad or cautionary, due to the agressive nature of their cousins and the need to hear warnings over the sound of the wind.
He got up to the couple and began to apologize for causing a scene and for tossing Kegato out of the Library and not meaning to cause him any harm, when three Skybax riders ran up and began to try and calm him down.
"Shh, Shh, it's ok. How did you get so far from the Rookery? And where's your rider?" asked the female rider.
"Please Madam, I'm sorry for the noise. I only wanted to attract the attention of a few." The riders jumped back at the sound of a thickly accented human language. "As for the getting away from the Rookery and my rider... I live just down the street in my own house, and I've never had a rider."
Two of the riders seemed puzzled, but the woman seemed to know something the others did not. As the young woman talked, Silvano scanned the crowd for Kegato and the red haired woman. "I heard of a skybax that once spurrned flying and left the Canyon... That was you wasn't it?"
"While that is an unflattering rendition of my departure, yes, that was me. I'm surprised they speak of me anymore." Silvano said as he spied Kegato and the woman. "And now, I must take my leave. Sorry about the noise."
Silvanoshi vaulted himself closer to the pair and stopped in front of them. "Again, Sir Kegato, I am sorry. I was under the impression that you knew more of this land, and had been here longer than you do and you obviously have. Please, come with me, and I will give you a proper welcome and promise not to toss you about anymore. You may accompany us as well, my lady, if you wish. You seem to have a foreign quality about you just as Mr. Kegato does."

Gareth leant upon the doorframe of the visitor's quarters where he stayed in waterfall city, watching the strange occurences play out on the steps of the library. What on earth was a man in full armor doing in the city? Were the skycore having one of their annual jousts nearby? or had a caravan returned from the rainy basin. All thoughts of a pleasant misunderstanding vanished as a hadrosaur waddled out of the Library, causing the stranger to almost fall over backwards into what was obviously a fighting pose and even at this distance, Gareth's eyes could pick out the flash of bare metal. Oddly, he just wanted to laugh. Whoever had the nerve to threaten a hadrosaur with a pocketknife would learn their lesson fairly quickly. he sighed "I'm SO not getting involved in any of this" With that he swung on the doorframe and slipped back into the nest-bed to read.
OOT: just as a note, by your naming these guys Nekonians I can only assume, for lack of a better word, that they are catgirls (or catboys, in the case of any male exponents of the species). At least catlike in the sense of ears and eyes (oh and the hissing). If I'm right this could get weird...

(OOC: Actually, we can fit Highsoar’s first post right before mine. We can say that Oomu heard Highsoar’s cawing, which led to Oomu’s discovery of Ryka. ((Hey Sil, are the Sidhe essentially elves? BTW, something like cotton velveteen isn’t course, so Dinotopian clothing wouldn’t look that bad. Also, you might not need spells to operate the doors. Perhaps placing certain kinds of crystals and such can activate the gate and determine your destination. ((Hey Azonthus, how come I don’t see your character in the character introductions? OOT: just as a note, by your naming these guys Nekonians I can only assume, for lack of a better word, that they are catgirls (or catboys, in the case of any male exponents of the species). At least catlike in the sense of ears and eyes (oh and the hissing). If I'm right this could get weird... So basically, they're something like this? ;D)) * * * DJ stumbled backward as Ryka hissed and exploded out of the nest-bed. Her lightening-quick moves took her out of the window. He heard her claws scratch and scrape the roof until she finally settled at the top. Dj ran to the window and tried to look up, but the curvature of the pod-house’s roof prevented him from seeing Ryka at all. He ran outside and stood by Oomu. He backed up until he could see Ryka crouching on the roof, glowering at Oomu. He jumped and waved. “Hey! What’re you doing up there?” Ryka snarled back, “What is that beast? What is this land?” DJ stood there with his mouth agape. He wondered, Is she a Dolphinback? He had no clue as to how she could have gotten so far inland without any Dinotopian discovering her. But then, someone did get to her as the arrow that was in her shoulder attested. But that couldn’t have been the work of a Dinotopian, could it? DJ started slowly. “Um… You’re in Bonabba, a village of Dinotopia. This so-called ‘beast’ is Oomu, a parasaurolophus. If it weren’t for him, the caravan would never have found you. He’s completely harmless, I assure you…” Oomu bleated to reaffirm DJ’s words. Before Ryka could say anything, someone called out. “Breathe Deep!” The three looked over to where the voice came from. They saw a raptor approaching them. She continued, “I'm Azonthus, leader of the Sharpclaw. Is there anything I can do to convince you to come down from that roof before you fall?” “It speaks!” Ryka exclaimed. “Excuse me?” Azonthus quipped. DJ turned back to Ryka. “Yes, she speaks. In fact, all the saurians here on Dinotopia can speak, though not necessarily any of the common tongues. There’s no need to be afraid. Please, come down from there.” Ryka slowly started to slip down from the roof and moved towards the window she exited from. Azonthus moved closer to DJ. “I assume she’s the patient who was struck by the arrow.” DJ responded, “Yes. I think she’s a Dolphinback, though I don’t know how she could have gotten so far inland without anyone picking her up. She’s very unusual. I’ve never seen any human move like her. Not to mention her ears and occasionally her eyes. And then there’s the claws…” “Claws?!” DJ nodded. “I think so. That’s how she climbed so quickly onto the roof. She moves like a cat.” Azonthus cocked her head to the side. “That is unusual, DJ.” DJ looked back at Azonthus. She continued, “The village doctor already told me of the situation. If I may, I’d like to talk to her about her situation. Did she tell you anything?” “Nope. We were just getting started when Oomu stuck his head in a window and she freaked out. That was the first clue she’s new. As for that arrow…” Azonthus nodded. “That’s why I dropped by. I’d like to ask her about that.” DJ shrugged. “You can, but I don’t know if she’ll speak candidly. She’s obviously disoriented from both her injury and her new surroundings. Maybe I should be there to help out since I was the first person she saw?” “Yes, this is acceptable.” Azonthus and DJ walked to the pod-house while Oomu grazed a bit on some ferns outside.
