(OOC: Yes aric, the Sidhe are basically elves, but don't let one here you say that, because they're not. And compared to Sidhe clothing, Dinotopian wear is that coarse!)
Mirin's eyes flared as she watched Kegato once agian take the blade from his gauntlet and prepare to toss it. Just as she was about to Move it again, the birdlike creature let out the most horendous sound.
To the Sidhe's ears, the screech was like nails about as big as that creature being scraped repeatedly down a black-board. She covered her ears in pain.
Once the pain subsided she saw that a few humans in red uniforms had aproached the beast, soothing it with words and gestures. Mirin was glad it was under control, and was heading up the steps of the Library when the bird-thing came back up to her.
"Again, Sir Kegato, I am sorry." Mirin realizzed that Kegato had been following her. The creature continued, "I was under the impression that you knew more of this land, and had been here longer than you do and you obviously have. Please, come with me, and I will give you a proper welcome and promise not to toss you about anymore. You may accompany us as well, my lady, if you wish. You seem to have a foreign quality about you just as Mr. Kegato does."
Mirin stood a little straighter. She wasn't a vain type, but appreciated the formality all the same. With a rude smile to Kegato, she turned to the creature.
"Thank you, I would be delighted. Please teach us of this wonderous place we have arrived in." Kegato snorted at the comment, and Mirin gave him a look that could have wilted a tree.
The creature led them into a vast great hall, yards wide. Mirin's lips spread to reveal perfect teeth in a smile that was unmatched. She craned her neck to marvel at the architechture and the shelves of scrolls. They were to high for any normal person to reach, even this bird-creature was to short.
Then she saw another of the long necked animals, it had a human on it's head and was lifting the human up to reach one of the taller scroll's.
So that's what they're for..., Mirin thought as the bird-creature led them down a side alley.
"This is the reference section," he said. "Feel free to look around, all the knowledge of Dinotopia can be found here."
"Is that what this city is called?" Mirin asked, taking down one of the large heavy scrolls, though they weren't nearly as heavy to her.
The beast made a funny caw-cawing sound, she realized it was laughing. "No," he said, "You are in Waterfall City, the land is Dinotopia." Mirin gave a slight nod of understanding as she unrolled the scroll. She stared at a bunch of writing that looked an awful lot to her like, chickenscratch.
"I can't read this," She said, and put the scroll back, slightly disapointed, she loved reading. She sighed, if she couldn't read their language, she couldn't find out what she was supposed to do here.
The Gateway had dropped her here, on this Dinotopia, for a reason, and she had to find it. Unknown to her, her reason was standing only a few feet behind her. And his only thought was of finding Ryka.

(OOC Okay, first off: Ryka doesn't look at all like either of those pics, although I'm flattered you want to get a visual of her. Her ears are more on TOP of her head, rather than on the sides. Like a real cat's.
Second: Kegato is not some sword-wielding samurai psycho!{Try saying THAT 5 times fast.} Just because he's sometimes rude, greedy, power-hungry, and a little sarcastic doesn't mean he has no tact. He's a powerful warrior, both physically AND politically. His character has some depth to it, if anyone cares to get close enough to find out. But, you can torment him, too, all you like, if you feel strongly about it. He'll end up being a real jerk to your character, so I don't advise it.)
---,--'--(@
Ryka entered through the window and backed to the farthest corner of the room. She watched the DJ and the other strange creature enter the house and stand for a moment, wondering what to do.
“If you're here to talk, then sit,” Ryka said, curtly. DJ frowned and the other creature snorted.
“There's no need to be rude,” DJ said, but Azonthus laid a taloned hand on his arm.
“She's been traumatized, DJ. Give her a break.” DJ shrugged, but sat down. Az settled herself a safe distance away from the agitated cat-eared human and cooed softly.
“What's your name and where are you from, dear?”
Ryka raised an eyebrow. “I'm not sure, but I think in most cultures it's more polite to offer your name first.” Az nodded. “You're right, forgive me. My name is Azonthus, Leader of the Sharpclaw Clan of Velociraptors.” She then proceeded to describe at length what species she was, what a dinosaur was, what island this was, etc. She was patient as Ryka tried to get a firm grasp on what happened and where she was. Silently, Ryka put the pieces of her ordeal together, then it was her turn. “My name is Ryka. Nothing special about me. No leader or anything like that. Just a farmer/hunter.” Ryka also proceeded to describe in great length her life, what dimension she came from, etc. DJ and Az listened in astonishment as she finished her tale. Az was the first to speak. “What about this 'key'? Do you have it?” Ryka shook her head. “It separated as I traversed the portal. I have only a fragment of it.” She pulled the triangular metal object from the sleeve of her floor-length green outer coat. It was a deep crimson color with a flame-shaped bit of glass in the center. The glass was kiln-fired in such a way to reproduce the flickering light of a fire. Strangely though, the glass did glow with an impossible light. Bright enough to be noticable, but not enough to blind. She held it out to Az, who took it reverently. “It's beautiful.Where are the other pieces?” Ryka shrugged. “Best case: They're scattered on this island somewhere.” “And the worst case?” DJ quipped, holding his hand out, wanting to inspect the piece as well. “Worst case: The pieces are scattered into other dimensions. Please, be careful with...” Ryka's warning was too late as the key fragment dropped from DJ's grip and hit the stone floor. Upon impact, the fragment sounded a long, sonorous tone that reverberated throughout, not only the room, but seemed to spread across the town, the area, and even the whole island. It was an ethereal note that could not be described, save one could feel it in every tissue of their body, with a sensation that also defied explanation. Like a beacon, it seemed to be calling out to something. Ryka's brown-furred cat ears shot forward and she paled. Moments later, four other notes, each harmonious to the Fire Fragment, echoed back. The sound was deafening, yet pleasant. Pleasant to all, that is, save Ryka. With a growl, she pounced on the fragment, scooping it up and clutching it tightly to her chest, trying to stifle the sound. With an almost angry-sounding crescendo, the tone seemed to collapse in on itself; returning to the key fragment. Ryka panted and looked up at the two astounded individuals, who stared back in an other-wordly shock. DJ recovered first. “What just happened?” he asked, quietly. “Something that is both good and bad,” Ryka replied, standing and returning the fragment to its hiding place on her person. “Good in the fact that it means the other key fragments are here on this island. And bad because it will have alerted another, whom I greatly fear, to my presence and the position of the other fragments.” Stalking over to the window, she crouched on the sill and looked back at them. “You would be wise to forget that you ever met me. My path is filled with many dangers, and I would not wish it upon you after the kindness you have shown me. Farewell.” With that, she leapt from her perch and landed, unhurt, on her feet before trotting off in the direction of the nearest tone. Her path, however, lead her toward the Rainy Basin... ---,--'--(@ Kegato growled under his breath. This line of intelligence gathering was leading him nowhere. He was losing patience, and fast. He was about to make a derrogatory comment about the slow-pace of things, when a sound caught his attention. A low, melodic tone sounded from far away, yet its pitch reached his highly sensitive ears perfectly. Apparently, everyone else heard it too, as all turned their heads in different directions; none being able to locate a specific location. Kegato's fists clenched, his ears pinned back, and the pupils of his eyes narrowing to slits. “Ryka...” he growled deep in his throat. Suddenly, another tone sounded, followed by three more from further away. The first, however, was distinguishable as nearby. In the very room even. But from where...? His keen eyes scanned the room, scrutinizing every detail. His ears swiveled, following the direction his eyes would look. The epicenter was high... higher... still higher... there! He found it. Racing to the honeycombed wall he leaped straight up, pulling himself up the wall faster than anyone could react. Three leaps brought him to the height he desired, and a gauntleted hand groped inside the hole. His fingertips closed around a solid object behind the scroll, and with a triumphant purr, he pulled out his prize. In the palm of his hand lay a diamond shaped piece of metal. The base of the pyramidal key had been retrieved. With pride, he gazed upon the design of firey glass, pearl, blue-green marble, and liquid silver that vortexed to a dizzying spiral in the center. Tucking the base into a secure portion of his armor, he leaped back down to the floor and strode over to his 'companions'. He stood before Mirin and bowed gracefully. Taking her hand in his, he brought it to his lips and kissed it gently. “My Lady, never before have I seen such perfection in all my life. It saddens me now that I must part from your gracious if not... cold... company. If our paths do not cross again, then it grieves me now to bid you farewell.” And with a dramatic turn, he sprinted out of the Library before anyone could say any more. Outside the Library, he paused, straining to hear the last vestiges of the Fragment Tones. His lips parted into a feral grin as he readied himself for an entertaining hunt. (OOC: *singsong* Mirin's got a boyfriend! Mirin's got a boyfriend! Poor Ryka... she has no one... *sniffs* Anywho... Sil, I only want to ask one thing of you. Whatever telekinetic ability Mirin has, I ask that it be deemed unable to affect the five Key Fragments. No pulling them away from anyone, or floating them around, etc. That's all I ask. Thanks. )

((ooc: Yeah, We know he's not a knife wielding psycho, but we needed a source of tension that could easily be resolved... Knives do really well in that area )) "I swear, if he damaged any of those scrolls.." Silvano trailed off as Kegato lept back in front of Mirin. “My Lady, never before have I seen such perfection in all my life. It saddens me now that I must part from your gracious if not... cold... company. If our paths do not cross again, then it grieves me now to bid you farewell,” said Kegato before he turrned and ran out. "What in the world...?" Silvanoshi turned to Mirin and cocked his head in a questioning manner. There were no stories of cat-people or ringing objects that he could think of. Ancient Dinotopia and the World Benieth were Silvano's specialites, and they lent no help to what the noise was, or even what that object had been. One thing was obvious though; there were more than one of these and Kegato wanted them, otherwise why would he run out abruptly when things were going so swimmingly with Mirin. *smirk* Simmingly indeed. "Well, that was fun," said Silvano to no one in particular.

((OOC: Well, looks like I can post in this RP more than I thought. It's turning out to be really interesting. ((OOC: Hey Sil, how about we say that the Sidhe inspired the myths about elves in the way that the Ra alien from Stargate inspired the ancient gods/UFO thing today. ((OOC: As for the Nekonians, I suppose they look like this: ((OOC: Just for reference! )) ----------------------------------------------------------------- DJ started. “Whoa, hold on!” He bolted out of the room and scrambled down the stairs. Ryka paused momentarily from his shout. He ran up to her and reached out for her wrist to prevent her from going anywhere. She flashed him a pair of evil eyes. DJ’s hand stayed, but he continued to speak. “Um… where exactly are you going?” Ryka’s eyes remained on DJ. “I’m going to look for the rest of the stones. They cannot be allowed to fall into Kegato’s clutches.” “Yeah… See, the direction you seem to walking towards leads to a rather inhospitable place. If you thought ol’ Oomu was threatening, you haven’t seen anything yet.” Azonthus jogged up to the pair. “He’s right. The place just over the vertebrate bridge is called the Rainy Basin. It’s home to the fiercest carnivores this world has ever seen. Some of them are much bigger than Oomu. And others are like myself…” Azonthus twitched her sickle claws, a movement that Ryka didn’t miss. Azonthus added, “And my kind hunts in packs.” Ryka showed some hesitation. “I have to get those fragments.” “You don’t have to do it alone,” DJ said. “After what you told us about Kegato, I think all of Dinotopia is invested in stopping this tyrant. I think we should go right on over to the authorities and let them know about the situation. We can solve two problems in one stroke. The more Dinotopians who are aware of what we’re looking for, the better chances we’ll have of finding the pieces before Kegato does. Also, Kegato won’t be going anywhere if he’s incarcerated by the authorities.” Azonthus started slowly. “Perhaps. But what reason would the local councils have in believing Ryka’s story over Kegato’s?” Ryka’s fur ruffled. “I’m not a liar!” “I believe you,” DJ said. Azonthus raised her hands. “That’s not what I meant. All we have to go on are your respective words. I’m sure Kegato would protest just as loudly as you did should he be confronted about his background. That’s assuming, of course, that he bothered to tell a different one than your own.” DJ jumped in. “Well, she didn’t shoot that arrow into herself.” “Perhaps Kegato shot her in self-defense,” Azonthus said. Ryka bared her teeth. "Then why was the arrow in her back?" DJ asked. Azonthus continued, “I’m just saying that we shouldn’t make assumptions even before we know the whole story. And that means hearing both sides and corroborating it with as much evidence as we can.” “Yeah, maybe,” DJ said hesitantly, reluctant to betray Ryka but unwilling to argue against Azonthus’ logic. He agreed with some of it. “If I won’t get help from you, then let me by, “Ryka muttered. DJ countered, “Wait, we are trying to help. It’s just going to take a little time. At the very least, we’ll need to be better prepared when we go into the Rainy Basin.” Azonthus blinked. When we go into the Rainy Basin?Ryka said slowly. “So you’ll help me?” “Yeah,” DJ said. “But we need to be prepared. And this means we have to let some authority figure know to at least authorize a small expedition to retrieve the pieces. I think we need to go to Waterfall City.” “Would this help find the fragments before Kegato does?” Ryka asked. “I would say so,” DJ replied. He looked over at Azonthus for support. “And you’re going back to the Rainy Basin, aren’t you? What better guide would we have than you? Of course, that would mean taking a major detour to Waterfall city…” ((OOC: It would also be a great way to meet up with the other characters who are already in Waterfall City. Not to mention looking up stuff about the gate(s) here on Earth.))

Mirin looked up from her lesson on Dinotopian Geography as the sound reverberated around the room. She sighed in pleasure at it's perfect pitch. Slowly she heard three returning notes, and one came from this very room.
Mirin focused on the sound, and with a sweep of her right hand, attempted to move it to her. But nothing happened. Meanwhile Kegato had jumped onto the shelves and proceeded to rummage for the piece.
Jumping from the shelf with the piece in his hand, Mirin once agian attempted to Move the piece to her. But it wouldn't go.
Kegato turned to Mirin, and she gasped as he took her hand in his and kissed it gently. “My Lady, never before have I seen such perfection in all my life. It saddens me now that I must part from your gracious if not... cold... company. If our paths do not cross again, then it grieves me now to bid you farewell.” With that he turned and left.
Mirin was astonished. This beast did have a heart. Ignoring the look Silvano gave her, Mirin rushed to the steps and grabbed him by the shoulder with her right hand.
Her Ring brushed up against his bare neck. This was no ordinary ring, it was the Ring of Love, as Mirin's mother jokingly called it. The next in line for the crown would wear it, until it responed to his or hers one true match. The one who could lead the Sidhe.
The Ring sent a jolt of pure pleasure through them both, and Mirin leaned onto Kegato breathing heavily. He turned to her, breathing just as heavily, sweat beaded on his brow.
"I..." Mirin said, again completely surprised, this time at the Ring's choice of men. Kegato looked at her, a look she'd never seen in anyone's eyes before. Mirin opened her mouth to speak...
(OOC: Now it's my turn.*singsong* Kegato's got a girlfriend...Kegato's got a girlfriend. He HE! If you couldn't see that hint, then you need to be slapped Kiva, it's obvious!)

(OOC: Sorry that Ryka's portion of the RP was a little rushed, but I couldn't think up a time waster. Anywho, good luck getting her into that boat. And don't worry, she won't hurt you.)
Preparations for the trip to Waterfall City took up most of the day, and by the time they were completed, the sun had started to set. This, however, confused Ryka. In her dimension, a single day was nearly twice as long as one here. So, while everyone was getting ready for bed, Ryka was still feeling active. She would need something to do to pass the time.
For a while, Ryka was content to fiddle with and check her battle fans, and sharpen both her Kunai knives and Shuriken on the small whetstone she carried with her. But with those menial tasks completed, and several hours left until dawn, she decided to carve a bow.
Her mate, Lian, had once taught her how to carve a simple yet effective bow in only a few hours, so she decided to put that teaching to work. Scaling the nearby trees, it did not take her long to find a suitable branch to work with. She set to work quickly, a newly sharpened kunai knife replacing a whittling knife soon completed the task. She even managed to turn out a few arrows before morning. She would need to find some material to fletch them though; for even though she had hunted with unfletched arrows before, her aim was far more deadly with the proper materials.
As the sun's rays appeared on the horizon, she resharpened the now dull kunai and returned it to its hidden sheath just as Az and DJ awoke. With all preparations finalized for the trip, the group set out. As they made their way along, it was decided that the quickest way to reach Waterfall City was by boating down the Polongo River. It was there, however, that they encountered their first real problem.
At the sight of the boat, Ryka's ears pinned back and she refused to move.
“I-I can't...” she said, fearfully.
“What's wrong? It's perfectly safe. See, Az is on board and nothing's wrong,” DJ said, trying to convince her.
“It's not the boat that scares me, it's the water. You see... I can't swim. No Nekonian can. But some of us, have a greater fear of water than others. I just can't do it.”
---,--'--(@
Kegato had not expected anyone to follow him. Yet, as he started to get his bearings, a delicate hand touched his shoulder. His head turned slightly and he felt her fingers brush his neck, just above the collar of his backplate. Suddenly, a rush of what felt like adrenaline coursed through his veins. He shivered beneath his armor, and a cold sweat enveloped him. The sensation stopped his heart for a moment, and seemed to squeeze all the air out of his lungs.
In an instant, the effect was over, and though the experience was... different... Kegato felt inexplicably comfortable. Still gasping lightly for air, he turned in time to see Mirin collapse towards him. Instinct brought his arms around her, supporting her and keeping her from falling. She was gazing intently in his eyes, and Kegato found himself unable to look away. Her closeness was affecting him. A stirring of emotion awakened a feeling deep inside his heart. This new sensation was frightening Kegato. His mind suddenly flashed back to a political lesson his Father had taught him at a young age.
”Love is a dangerous thing to tamper with, Kegato. I can tell you many stories about kingdoms that crumbled because their leader was swayed by this unnecessary emotion.”
His father had done just that. And subconsciously sensing that he would never receive even a parental love from his father, Kegato soon learned to quell his desire for affection and attention. But now...
In an instant, this woman shattered the barrier he had built long ago with a simple touch. His mind was overloaded with emotions, and he didn't know how to react. Mirin, unaware of the turmoil he was in, started to speak.
“I...”
She never got further than that, for he immediately he placed his gloved hand gently over her mouth, silencing her. She looked hurt and ready to protest. The surprise and pain in her eyes was more than he could bear.
“Mirin...” he breathed her name, softly.
He slumped to his knees before her, struggling to maintain a firm grip on the cold aloofness his Father had drilled into him all his life. Finally, he managed to shut down the fountain of emotions that had sprung up inside him.
Standing again, he once more bowed in her direction, but did not touch her this time; fearing how he would react.
“Forgive me, My Lady, but duty calls.” And with that, he slipped into the crowd and disappeared.
(As for you, Sil, you better be nice or I'll sic my brothers on you. *Thunderhead, Snaptrap, and Clapjaw growl menacingly* They don't like it when someone suggests I be slapped... )

(OOC: Oh, your brother's don't scare me Kiva *Xepher and Kilodren raise their wings and growl low in their throughts*. See, I have back-up.)
Mirin watched Kegato's back as he dispersed through the crowd.
"But..." What an idiot she was becoming, in the last three minutes she hadn't been able to put even one sentence together.
Without finishing her sentence, Mirin dived into the crowd after Kegato.
"Kegato, wait." she cried. But the man wouldn't stop. She'd have to make him stop. Once Kegato had cleared the crowds and was heading to the outskirts, past a lovely globe and a golden winged statue, Mirin raised her right hand and pulled Kegato too her.
"You have some nerve you know. When the ring chooses, there is no turning back, Kegato. I'm pretty sure that the reason you stay cold to the world is because of some royal training. But I too, am royalty and the one thing my parents always told me, was there was no point to ruling unless there was someone there to share the world with. Someone who you don't need to hear titles from, someone who you can just be you with."
Mirin had tears in her eyes as she pulled the struggling Kegato toward her. Despite her tears, her eyes were glowing in perfect immitations of the elements they copied. She had a slight frown on her lips and her entire body trembled with the rejection Kegato had given her so coldly.
"And even if I can't have you that way, then just let me join you in finding the sources of the notes. I have very good hearing." Her eyes were still glowing, but they held a note of pleading in them. "Please?"

(OOC: If I could, I'd call out Tryll, Haalik, Hiryu, Mizura, and Sylph, but they're hibernating right now, and they ate being awakened for a simple argument. So, I'll concede defeat for the moment. Just don't suggest I be slapped anymore, and everything'll be okay. ;D
Also, I just realized I jumped forward in the time frame on Ryka's part, but Mirin and Kegato are still stuck in the previous day. I'm such a ditz. *smacks herself in the head* See, I smack myself enough, I don't need anyone's help. )
Kegato could hear Mirin calling after him, but steeled his heart against it. He had a mission to fulfill, and he knew it would be his undoing if he stayed near her. By the powers that be, he didn't know what to do with her. True, he'd been around attractive women before, but none had stirred a passion such as this within him. She made him vulnerable, and he had no idea how to react.
Just when he thought she'd given up, a powerful force pulled him back. Instinctively, he knew it was her. He struggled against the unseen force, but it was like pushing against an immovable wall. Inexorably, he was being drawn back to her. Her voice rang sweetly in his ears.
But instead of gently persuading him, her words served only to anger him. Begrudgingly, he ceased his struggles, and allowed himself to once again be pulled so as to stand before her. Still, he stood with his back to her, eyes staring out in front. Her next words shocked him.
"And even if I can't have you that way, then just let me join you in finding the sources of the notes. I have very good hearing." He turned his head to meet her gaze. “Please?” she pleaded.
His body soon followed the motion of his head, and he faced her fully. His eyes were cold, pupils narrowed somewhat, and his ears flicked back slightly from their upright position. “This habit of yours is very trying on one's patience.” Yet as he gazed upon her face, two fresh tears rolled down her cheeks. Upon seeing this, his eyes softened their harsh look and a small smile flickered on his lips.
He pulled the gautlet from his right hand and brought his hand to her cheek, wiping the tears away. “Save your tears, My Lady. Do not shed them for one as unworthy as I. You know not what it is you weep for, for I can bring you nothing but pain and heartache.”
He sighed. “You are fortunate to have had parents such as those. I never knew my mother. My Father never told me what happened to her. It was he who raised me to rule with an iron grip upon the land I claimed as my own. Yours was a lesson he had failed to teach me.” With his hand still on her cheek, he stepped towards her, closing the already narrow gap between them. His eyes locked with hers. Gone was the malice, and in its place was something more tender. “Perhaps one day, though, I will find someone who will teach me this lesson.”
With a chuckle, he stepped back and he replaced the gauntlet on his hand. “I must, however, complete this task first. As for whether or not you accompany me... I doubt I'd have any say in the matter. Come or not, it's doubtful I could stop you even if I didn't wish your presence.” His smiledisappeared. “The way is dangerous, however. There is one here on the island, who already wishes me dead, and will no doubt attempt to make it happen. No doubt she'll have rallied others to her cause, making this mission even more treacherous.”
In the light of the setting sun, he gazed at her. Her beauty was breathtaking. He'd never encountered anyone like her before. “If something were to happen to you...” he let the statement hang, not wanting to think about the possibility.

"Dolphinbacks..." muttered Silvano as he went to go put back a scroll that Kegato had knocked off the shelf. "When will they learn to not rush and be impatient."
Silvano grumbled for most of the rest of the day and went home to his house near the library for the evening. He had a feeling that either tomorrow or the next day was going to be even longer than today.
They Next day Silvano awoke and went to work, wondering what kind of dolphinback would appear today.

“Save your tears, My Lady. Do not shed them for one as unworthy as I. You know not what it is you weep for, for I can bring you nothing but pain and heartache.” Kegato told Mirin with one hand on her face, gently wiping the tears away.
Her tears ceased, but an ache was still in her heart. The things he was saying seemed terrible to her. To grow up without a mother's love, with a father who could care less. No wonder he was so cold. But she would change that.
“The way is dangerous, however. There is one here on the island, who already wishes me dead, and will no doubt attempt to make it happen. No doubt she'll have rallied others to her cause, making this mission even more treacherous.” He continued taking his hand from her face. He took a small step back.
“If something were to happen to you...” he let the sentence peater out.
"There is no fear of that Kegato, I am as strong as any male, and will outlive any human or creature on this island by many years. As long as I taste no poison, and steel does not take me, I will be here." She raised her left hand and placed it on his heart.
"And besides, if you fall ill to some attack, who would heal you if not me? You need me, in more ways than this one, but for this most of all." She removed her hand. And stood there looking at him. He had a sense of power and charm that she had never seen before in any Sidhe, and definatly not in any human.
"But, I think I may need something a little more travel worthy, if we are to go traipsing about this Island." She grabbed his gauntleted hand and pulled him back to the city market. She traversed the stalls, looking for something to wear. Kegato trailing along behind her in mild interest.
She finally found a stall that sold leather. It was a different leather than cow, and she found it's texture rather comforting.
"Where did you find this?" She asked the woman behind the counter, as she pulled out a pair of leather pants, which had been dyed a lovely black.
"I take regular trips to Bonabba. And while there I trade for this leather that came from dead beasts, for some fish to a very amiable velociraptor named Azonthus. I would never kill an animal just for it's hide."
Mirin nodded in agreement. The Sidhe had strict rules about killing only when it was nessisary, and all the leather back home was donated in the same way.
She bought a black leather outfit and, keeping a firm grip on Kegato, went to find a place to change. She found a stall that provided changing rooms, and Mirin went in without a second glance, making sure to keep Kegato right were she wanted him.
She came out in her new leather garb. A tight fitting top with long sleeves and tied up the back with leather straps, to allow for adjustment. Her pants were of the same leather and clung tightly to her shapely hips and long slender legs. She had bought a pair of knee high boots that she had rolled down over her thighs.
She had a belt with a leather pouch on it that she was stuffing her dress uncerimoniously into. She had her hair pulled back by a leather strap. She then straightened up and turned in a small circle.
"How do I look?" She asked. Kegato didn't answer right away, this drastic change in clothing had him dumbfounded. Mirin smiled.
"So, where to first?"

Kegato smiled in spite of himself as he watched Mirin shop for her clothes. In a way, this place reminded him of home. He wondered if this was what his home was like when he wasn't around. People talking, laughing and bartering for goods... All seemed to cower in fear whenever he arrived. Not that he blamed them.
He found himself being dragged again to a place where Mirin could change. Patiently, he waited outside, knowing he'd never get more than a few steps before she'd drag him back again. So instead, he wandered to the nearby stalls, and looked at some articles of men's clothing. For him as well, it wasn't a good idea to go traipsing around in armor when he didn't need it. After bartering for a long coat, he stood outside the room and waited.
When Mirin exited, he was speechless. If she was beautiful before, she was stunning now. Turning around, she allowed him to study her from all sides and he gave a low whistle.
“So, where to first?” she asked.
“Just a moment,” he replied. He walked into the same room, and stripped his armor off. The heavy, black metal pieces had weighed him down, and he ran the risk of overheating. Not wanting to catch a cold, however, he did put on the soft, wood-brown ankle length coat and stepped back out. He almost laughed aloud when he saw the same dumbfounded expression on Mirin's face that he no doubt had on his face when he saw her.
“Well, it seems you and I have switched places.”
Indeed, this seemed to be true. For Mirin had adopted the same black outfit as Kegato's armor, while Kegato himself wore an outfit that resembled Mirin's former attire. His broad shoulders were accentuated by the padded jerkin he wore beneath his breastplate. It was the same color as the darkest green of Mirin's eyes. His black leggings now hung looser since he'd removed the greaves, and he'd stuffed the hems into the cuffs of his calf-high boots. The wood-brown coat hung tight across his back, but not restrictive and gave ample room to hide his Katana and other weapons in its folds.
He took a step towards her, then stopped, a pained, puzzled look on his face. Without a word, he removed the coat and examined it. The sleeves of the black undershirt beneath the jerkin only came slightly over his shoulder, leaving his arms, from biceps to wrist, bare. Unsheathing the Kodachi strapped horizontally to the small of his back, he took the blade and neatly slashed the fabric of the coat from the waist to the hem. With a satisfied grin, he replaced the coat and turned 'round for Mirin's approval as well.
With a gasp, Mirin understood why he'd cut the back end of the coat. The Nekonian had a tail. The same black fur that crowned his ears covered his tail that he'd managed to hide beneath his armor. The coat had restricted its movement, thus throwing his balance off, but now his balance was restored. Still, he managed to keep it mostly hidden from sight.
As he walked back to gather his armor, something gave his tail a sharp yank. With a feline-esque yowl he turned and dropped into a defensive stance, growling fiercely. Mirin held up her hands in apology.
“I just wanted to see if it was real, that's all.”
He stood, still growling slightly. “I assure you, Madame, it is. In the future, please refrain from doing that as it is most painful.”
Mirin giggled at his serious expression. “I'll remember that...”
He gathered his armor and returned. “You asked where we go now. For the moment, I say no where. Night is falling, and I can't say what kind of creatures prowl the more untamed areas of this place after dark, so I'll find a place to rest until daybreak.”
Through trial and error, he did manage to find a place to rest. There was only one bed, but Kegato gave it up for the comfortable, if not small, window seat that looked out over the city. People headed for their homes as the stars began to twinkle and the moon rose. Kegato had not slept for many days, and the events of the past day and a half had worn him down. Somewhere inside his heart, he knew that the next several days would be even more difficult. His head leaned against the cool window pane and his eyes closed. A light purring noise emanated from his throat as he finally slept.

((OOC: I would reply, but I'm waiting for Azonthus to start posting something. We've been hijacking her character for a while now. I'm not even sure if the raptor wants to go to Waterfall City.))

Mirin crawled onto the bed, the night was warm, and the light cover's unnessessary. She watched Kegato as he looked out at the night covered city.
She watched him until he fell asleep, and was surprised to see that he purred! So like a kitten, except for the eyes. Those eyes held wisdom beyond their years.
Mirin watched his tail flick back and forth beneath the sill for a moment, before drifting off into a state of semi-sleep. The Sidhe did not sleep the way human's or Nekonians did, they remained completely aware of their surroundings, yet still had the ability to dream.
...She dreamed of Kegato, but not like she wished to. She was Kegato, watching the little welp of a servent running down a long hallway.
She then was a young child, listening to a father rant about the way she should run her life, while she cowered in her mind, wishing she had known her mother...
Mirin came back to full conciousness in a cold sweat. She sat straight up, it was early morning, the sun not even high enough for the birds to begin their morning song.
Kegato was awake, lounging on the sill, watching her. He looked interested, but not overly so. She smiled a weak smile and got up to wash her face.
After some basic hygienic ministrations, Mirin stood and turned to her travel companion. She watched his tail as it swished back and forth below him. Unconsiously she began twisting her braid of long hair around her hands.
Again she asked, "Where to?" trying to make it as cool as possible. Even though the fact that she was sharing a room with her apparent soulmate was a little un-nerving.

((OOC: To heck with it. Azzy, you’re coming with us whether you want to or not. ;D
((OOC: Kiva, what kind of bow is it? A longbow or short bow? What are you using for the bowstring? Just out of curiosity))
“It's not the boat that scares me, it's the water. You see... I can't swim. No Nekonian can. But some of us have a greater fear of water than others. I just can't do it,” Ryka whispered.
DJ blinked. “Well, I think the accident rate on the Polongo is actually quite low. There hasn’t been an accidental drowning in a while.”
Ryka’s ears twitched as horror crept into her eyes. DJ hurried. “I mean, it’s quite safe. We’re in a wooden boat, see? It’s sturdier than a reed boat. And the outrigger stabilizes it.”
She shook her head.
“Well, if you want to go by land, then we could take the next convoy going south. But that would mean waiting for the next one to either pass by or for one to be organized. The longer we wait, the closer Kegato gets to the nearest fragment.”
Ryka’s head perked up at that prospect, but she was still stood glued to the shore.
DJ looked back at Azonthus for help, but apparently she wasn’t too keen on being sidetracked to Waterfall City. Her silence left DJ on his own. He said gently, “Hey, if anything happens, I’ll be there to keep you above water. I know how to swim. Well, at least tread water.” He offered his hand. “Please. We have to hurry. Trust me.”
She looked at his outstretched hand. DJ was nothing but a scholar – a lazy one at that. The projects he oversaw were largely constructed by other humans and saurians who knew how to handle the wood or metals required to build the contraptions he dug up from Waterfall City library’s musty scrolls. DJ’s hands were soft, and yet they weren’t as slender as her own. How could a male be so soft? They were nothing like Lian’s strong, almost wiry, hands. Hands that had plowed the fields of their home. Hands that had caressed her ears and held her gently but firmly against his body. Hands that were now impaled on a crucifix by Kegato’s orders. Kegato.
No, Ryka thought.
An almost feral gleam shone in her eye. She looked at DJ. “We have to go. Now.”
She reached out and grabbed DJ’s proffered hand. DJ choked back a gasp as the strength of her grip made his hand go numb. She lightly hopped into the boat, still grabbing onto DJ’s hand as if it were her lifesaver. DJ sat slowly, trying not to have his arm bent the wrong way.
“Ryka,” DJ said. “I’m going to need that hand in order to get the boat going. The current will begin to speed us up, but we still need one or two people to steer the thing.”
Her grip reluctantly loosened. DJ picked up one of the paddles and pushed against the bank. The boat, loaded with supplies and passengers, floated away from the shore and got swept up by the slow current of the Polongo. DJ called back, “Ryka, I could control the boat alone, but due to it’s size and weight, the boat would be a lot more directable if two people manned with the paddles. Also, you might like having some control over our situation on this river.”
Ryka glimpsed down at the wooden paddle lying at her feet. She reached down for it and grasped the shaft. She hefted its weight in her hand. She then looked at the darkish water flowing about the boat. She plunged the paddle into the water and felt the force of the river pressing against the oar. Slowly, she swept it through the water, moving it past her position in the boat.
DJ looked back and smiled. Well, that’s a first step, he thought. He wondered how she’d react once she found out the river sped up further down…

(OOC: So, as you all know, today is Valentines Day here in the U.S. So I thought it appropriate if Mirin had a special Valentines surprise for Kegato. This post has nothing to do with the current story-line, and is not relevent to the story. I'm just an evil person who likes to watch people squirm.
And besides, Kegato needs some love in his life.)
Mirin slipped the red dress over her slender hips, and pulled her waist length hair out of the back. She looked about the room, low light candles were scattered everywhere, and the pounding sound of the Waterfall City cascades came through the open window.
There was a knock at the door. Mirin smiled. She answered the door, smiled, and was about to speak when she noticed that it was only a Galimimus with a dozen roses in a vase clutchced in his claws.
"Oh," she sighed. "Just put them on the table." She waved her hand lazily, and the flower vase shot from the Galli's claws and landed gently on the table. Mirin closed the door behind her unexpected guest.
He's not comeing... she thought, when there was another knonk at the door. She opened only half as gladly as she would have the first time.
Kegato stood at the door, in a pair of white pants, with a hole for his tail, and a pink tunic spread tightly over his muscular chest. He held a red rose in his hand.
"For you," he mumbled, his wit and glamor gone at the sight of Mirin. She took the rose and put it in the vase with the others. They sat at the table.
There was a dinner for two set on the table, and each spent a good amount of time eating. After a lovely desert of fried ice-cream, the two sat in their chairs watching each other.
Mirin was in control of the situation, and Kegato knew it. What to do, what to do? Despite himself, Kegato attempted for a bolt at the door. Not even two steps away, and Mirin pushed him back in his seat.
She sauntered over to his chair, her smooth hips swinging in time with the falls. She placed her hands on the arms of Kegato's chair. Kegato gulped.
And a pillow was suddenly in his face. It was the shape of a heart, and had little frillies on the edges. Kegato stared at it for a moment.
"Draw your weapon." Mirin said, trying very hard not to laugh. Kegato snarled a fake snarl and launched himself at Mirin. They rolled about the room, for a while, and finally Kegato had Mirin pinned. He smiled down at her, and leaned in to close the gap between their lips...
And a very Happy Valentines Day to you all!
May your loved one's give you lots of chocolate!!!!!!!!
(OOC: Okay so it wasn't very funny, or squirmish, but I think Mirin was feeling slightly dejected by Kegato's lack of Lust for her. So I gave her some.
Mirin: I DID want his lust.
Kegato: What, and that wasn't enough for you?
Mirin: You didn't even kiss me! You had to let it fade to black.
Kegato: But it was implied!
Mirin: Oh, and I'm supposed to understand what your *air quotes* implying *end air quotes*
Kegato: well... yes.
Mirin: Your so insensitive! *walks out*
Kegato: *waits a few moments in spotlight* Wait, Mirin... *runs off after enraged Sidhe woman*)
