IC: I nodded happily. "Cart? Cool! Soon as we finish breakfast... done." I pushed my plate to the end of the bar, and stood up, giving the bar a quick swipe with my tail to clear it off.

IC: Clubber, Blackfish tavern
"Well,... I was hoping for seconds...", Clubber said as he got up as well. "But yeah, you're right: We might need to get an early start on things!", he followed the bipedal carnivore out of the Blackfish tavern.
As they stepped out the door, Clubber took the lead down the dockside lane and went to the path that led to the small field that he had left his cart in. His was the only one not being loaded or tended to, but that would soon change!
"Well, there she is!", Clubber announced as they got near it. "It's a beauty, ain't it?"

IC: Isabella Tortoiseback, The Blackfish TavernIt was then that he noticed, coming from the direction of the Rainy Basin, the other stranger, the Maori man, approaching. "Ah," he said, grinning mildly, "one warrior goes, and another approaches..." He waved at the distant man, and, with a hand gesture, implored the American to follow him. TAG: Christopher, rasputinsghost Kinaki walked through the forest, the woven flax kilt of his people rustling around his legs. He was shirtless, and wore an Archaeopteryx feather in his high topknot. Oar's tooth rested on his chest. Seeing the strangers, he waved in response. Reflex guided his right hand to his paddle sword. Fights and robberies were rare in Dinotopia, but meetings of strangers back in Taranaki often lead to bloodshed. He walked forward and noted the mustachioed white man standing next to another white man. "Ho, friend! Hello and how are you?' he said, with a strange, lilting accent. 'You wouldn't happen to be -Indonesian-, would you? "Well," said Kinaki, in a quasi-British clip, answering the first man. "And no, I'm a Maori of the Te Ati Awa tribe of Taranaki-' 'Ah, so New Zealand then!' 'That is the name grafted upon the backs of my people by the white man, yes.'

DJ sighed. He didn’t look forward to the journey ahead of him. He was sure it was going to be hot, muggy, and even dangerous in some parts. But when Krekor threw buckets of promissory notes at him, he couldn’t refuse. Not if he wanted to keep the curio shop open.
DJ had already knocked on the door using the intricately etched brass door-knocker. He was beginning to wonder where those two were. He put his head against the door to listen for activity on the other side. There was some rustling and some murmuring. It sounded like they were in but they were deciding what to do! He chuckled at the scene he imagined in his head. Finally, the door swung open and Isaiah stood before him.
“Well, hello my old friend,” DJ said. “Are you glad to see me?”
Before Isaiah answered, DJ noticed that his eyes flitted over the pile of baggage and cases by the door. “Of course! How could I not be glad to see one of my regular clients?”
“Thank you. How about we start this off with you getting my bags in?”
“Sure, anything for a client,” Isaiah smirked. He turned around and yelled, “Bolo! Come and get Mr. Applejack’s bags!”
DJ heard a raspberry from the hallway. “I do recall humans having two arms,” Bolo said as he turned the corner. “Hello, Mr. Applejack. We’re glad you chose to patronize the Backbone Shipping Company again.”
“It’s my pleasure,” DJ replied.
“Well Bolo, you’re the one with the strong horizontal back. Perfect for straddling Mr. Applejack’s bags.”
Bolo harrumphed. “Well you humans have two horizontal shoulders..”
DJ said, “Good! That’s three load-bearing surfaces for my bags and cases.” He picked up the top bag and handed it to Isaiah.
After getting his things into the building and off the portico, DJ sat at a couch in the foyer. “I’m sorry that I was unable to get into specifics. I myself was just being briefed on my destination as I was sending out your requisition order.”
Isaiah and Bolo slumped onto couches rather than stand and hear the news.
DJ continued, “A client of mine, a Parasaurolophus by the name of Krekor, has a thing for ancient Poseidian artifacts. While undergoing some research he came across a reference for a rather interesting… ah, trinket in one of those musty scrolls he’s always poring over. He calls it the Sunstone Sceptre. It’s apparently an interesting device, though he hasn’t given me much information about it. All I know is that it’s old, Krekor wants it, and he’s willing to pay for it. The thing is, it is apparently located in a jumble of ruins twenty miles into the Rainy Basin.”

OOC: Remember to IC and TAG, folks. Also, I gave Aric permission to Godmod me, so he's not breaking the rules, and I daresay he wrote Bolo and Isaiah better than I could myself...hm...
IC: Geoffrey Arlington, Jorotongo
Geoffrey stroked his beard nervously. He could sense the tension building. It took dolphinbacks so long to grow out of their ways. Geoffrey often wondered how humans survived outside of Dinotopia. He decided to try to break the tension.
"Well, about those supplies..."
The Maori fellow followed into town, and it swiftly became apparent that both he and the American were after the job in Ruhmsburg that the silly dimorphodon had yammered on about. Delighted that neither would have to travel alone, Geoffrey supplied them both with boda bags full of water, dried fruits and nuts, smoked fish, breads and cheeses. He suggested some more practical clothing for the Maori fellow, and then sent the two on their way. Perhaps Jorotongo was not the place for them, but Geoffrey hoped that somewhere on Dinotopia would be. Perhaps this Backbone Trading Company would work out for them. Smiling, he waved as they set out, and hoped they didn't kill each other before reaching Ruhmsburg.
TAG: Christopher, rasputinsghost
--------- IC: Isaiah Achebe, Backbone Trading Company, Ruhmsburg
Dammit.
Isaiah knew right away that whatever Applejack was so smug about was going to make his life very complicated very soon. He sighed, cursed at Bolo, and opened the door. Applejack stood there in all his glory. They bandied back and forth a bit, but in the end they were in the foyer with all of Applejack's bags, listening to him drop a bomb.
“A client of mine," he said, "a Parasaurolophus by the name of Krekor, has a thing for ancient Poseidian artifacts.
Bolo and Isaiah sat staring, grinning stupidly as if they hadn't heard. Then slowly, as the news sank in, Isaiah's face began to sink like mud in a slow land slide. Bolo's beak hung open. They spoke in unison: "The Basin?"
Isaiah smacked his forehead and dragged his palm downward as if trying to wipe off his face. The Rainy bloody Basin. It really didn't get worse than that anywhere on this forsaken island. The news apparently wasn't registering with Bolo; the saurian had risen up onto his hind legs and was pawing the air confusedly, making noncommittal noises, the beginnings of a dozen unspoken questions.
Isaiah rose, paced the room once, rubbing his chin. This could be dangerous. No. This was dangerous. Obviously. Large theropods were only rarely safe to be around, and they rarely got live prey, and they were notoriously territorial, and Applejack wanted to mess with the ruins in the Basin, which the carnosaurs were really anal retentive about keeping hidden and untouched, and they didn't even know what this Sunstone Scepter looked like, and...and...
The bags.
"I suppose the bags mean you plan to stay with us for a while?" Isaiah said, surveying the luggage, then Applejack's face. He heaved a sigh. "There's a room upstairs. But you have to carry these things."

IC: Clubber, Blackfish tavern
"Yup! It's a Copro cart all right! See, the Copro guild is phasing out this model. That's why I got it so cheaply!", Clubber explained as began walking around the cart.
Clubber then realized that Korkoa's sense of smell was many times more acute than his own! "That's why it smells so bad. I can't do much about it, but at least it's a lot better than when I got it!", he inhaled, then smiled impishly. "Copro happens!..."
Chuckling, Clubber continued his tour of the Copro cart. He pointed out this or that feature, showing Korkoa the many moving parts that made up the cart. nearing the end of his explanations, they both stopped about where they began, near the left rear wheel.
"I know it might not look like much, but it's nice and sturdy!", with this Clubber tapped the wheel with his clubtail and it barely wobbled! He looked from there to Korkoa and asked. "You got any experience in the transportation business?"

IC: Clubber, blackfish tavern
"Well, don't worry, it's really easy: a no-brainer!", Clubber replied. "Basically all you do is load the cargo on one end, travel to the other place and unload the cargo there.", he turned. "Stick with me and you'll be a pro in no time!", he chuckled.
Clubber crouched as he moved to the front of the cart; then he ducked under the left yoke and slid both sides over his shoulders. he shuddered his entire body to get the rig centered properly, then he looked back at Korkoa. He put on the cheesiest smile he could!
"I got lots of experience in the cargo biz!", Clubber continued. "I did the Baz/Bent Root run for years; then I freelanced all over up north for years after that.", he sighed. "But it's been pretty slow around here lately. I hope this job is the start of better times!"
He motioned with his head that Korkoa would come closer. "Now, to synch me in tight, grab the lower strap, bring it under my belly and string it through the buckle on the other side...", he instructed, then commented. "Whan I get human passengers, they hitch me up right quick!... Ah! For opposable thumbs!"
Clubber shrugged in his harness as he checked for twisted straps before he looked over to his friend again. "There, now hop up to the driver's seat and we'll get going!", he chuckled as he wiggled the cart wheels slightly in case they got stuck in the sod over night...

Traveling with the other stranger was certainly not easy for the American. The Maori's strange customs, and savage appearance served as quite the ice block for Chris--and he was certain that the Maori warrior felt the same way about him. Needless to say, neither one of them had conversed much as they traveled. They only spoke whenever something was necessary, and Chris had certainly made no move to break the ice. Thankfully, they'd be at their destination soon enough.

IC: Clubber, The road to Rhumsburg
Presently Clubber turned his Copro cart around in the field adjacent to the Blackfish tavern, his smallish carniverous saurian friend riding shotgun in the driver's seat behind him. At the main thouroughfare that passed by the tavern proper they turned north, the same direction that Clubber came from last night. Clubber knew there was a crossroads about a quarter of a mile up the road from here, for he had passed it last night. At nearly every crossroads in Dinotopia there was a signpost pointing the ways to cities, towns and outposts; and at this crossroads there was no exception. When he passed by it last night, he didn't notice that people in these parts had vandalized it; and when he saw it in the full morning light, he broke down bellowing in laughter!
"Well!... Would you look at this!...", Clubber said to his friend, Korkoa, up behind him. "The Road Commission isn't going to like this!", of course Clubber wasn't going to be the one to report it!
Besides the varied etched signatures of the people who passed this way before, there were also other barely mentionable drawings all over the signs. They saw crudely etched shapes of dinosaurs performing unspeakable acts, many doing it among different species! There were insults of every type and in every tongue. There were rude variations of the destination names in abundance. Some of the wood planks used for the signs were whittled away, and some had other arrows painted on them in a crude effort to confuse others. Some were skewed so thier arrows pointed nowhere, up in the sky or off into the woods by the side of the road. This signpost was nearly useless until the Road Commission come out here and fix it.
Finally Clubber deciphered the sign that led to Rhumsburg, which was down the left hand fork in the road. This way was going in a more northerly direction than they were going originally. Clubber broke into a whistle as he trundled down the road...

((OOC: sorry it wasn’t clear but I had meant for him to know both skybaxian and English, but know them like people know shri’wook in SW understood and not spoken.))
IC: Jil’althus, Puffinstuff, Jul'althus' Dwelling, Waterfall City
Julius opened the door and saw the dimorphodon looking out the window. “Feeling better now?” Julius asked. “Much,” replied Puffinstuff. “Thank you. I really should be going, I need to relay this message to more people.” “Of course, if you feel alright I will allow you to leave. You have made enough of a recovery to fly. If you feel pain though, take this,” Julius handed the skybax a wrapped stack of leaves. “Thank you for your help,” said Puffinstuff as he took his leave.
Jul’althus thought for a moment about what the skybax had said, with the caravan service needing people to go with them. Who knows, maybe he cloud be of some help. His musings were interrupted by a knock at the door. “Julius, we need to talk.” The thin, balding man who was the head of the physician’s guild was standing in his door. “Of course, come in, sit down. What was it you wanted to talk about?” Julius had rarely heard the old man sound as distant as he currently sounded. “We have had our differences in the past, you and I, but that skybax that you let leave just now had a very interesting job opportunity did he not?” “Yes, I suppose he did. Traveling along a caravan route that had established times and places in a novel concept. I fail to see though, how this pertains to me.” Jul’althus mused. “You have never been happy here. I think that time away from here, away from the city would do you good. I also think that it would be a chance for you to help us expand our knowledge of medicine from other parts of the island. I think you should at least go and see what the caravan master has to offer.” Jul’althus knew that this was just a ploy to get him out of the city, away from the guild. The human did not like the fact that he was teaching the tribal medicine because it wasn’t science, but it would give him more freedom to do his job without the guild watching over his every patient like he was a fool. “I will go, not for the guild, but to get away from you,” Jul’althus said hotly. “I hope the one raindrop raises the sea over your head,” retorted the human. “Breathe deep, inhale ash,” said Jul’althus as he walked out.
Without much fanfare Jul’althus left the guild with his medicines and set off to the city of Sauropolis by boat. The journey was thankfully uneventful and allowed the Hypacrosaur to clear his head. Now all he had to do was acquire overland transport to Rumsburg.

Hey, Stout, I don't know if this was the way you wanted to do it, so tell me if you wanted it differently. This is just the CS by the way.
Name: Makori Species: Diplodocus Gender: Male Place of Origin: Diploville Age: 23 Height: 17 ft. at shoulder Length: 91 ft. from nose to tail Appearance: Brown with white stripes along back, neck and tail (ooc: my avatar) Possessions: Five large canvas bags that can be strapped around the base of his neck. Easily self removable by the large buckles. Skills: Strength Languages: Dinotopian, Sauropod Allignments: None really Biography: Like all sauropods, Makori was born on a large farm. However, after a few years of work, he decided he was tired of farm life and wanted to go out and adventure. So far, he has worked at Volcaneum for five years, left to travel, and has walked the northwestern coast of Dinotopian.
Note: Sauropods mature at around 30, so although large, larger actually than a mature diplodocus, Makori is still considered a juvenile.

OOC: Nice work, Makori. Nice to see that almost everyone is on their way to Ruhmsburg. Heck, Aric's already there. Very nice. By Thursday, the entire complement of characters will be godmodded to Ruhmsburg, if they're not there already, so you have until then to post about your travels and your character development. This goes for all except Makori, who will be introduced later.
IC: Hoothonk, Sauropolis docks
Hoothonk raised his blue head and began a melody, allowing the air to enter his lungs, through his nostrils, and forcing it back through the complex maze of tubes in his Lambeosaurus crest, playing his own skull like a virtuoso might play a horn. Humans and saurians stopped to appreciate his skill and the beauty of his music, occassionally dropping barter credits and other goods into the sack held open near his forelimbs. The docks were an excellent place for a street performer to set up, as people from up and down the Polongo River passed by. Among the first sights visitors to Sauropolis were encountered with were the busy dockworkers and the street performers who, like Hoothonk, were all looking to make a buck.
He finished his song, and was met with applause. Bending at the elbows, he bowed. Much of the crowd dispersed, but some stayed behind to hear more. As he prepared for his next number, he noticed a lost traveler disembarking from a ship. He was a male Hypacrosaurus, and he had the air of the savage wilderness tribes about him. He was an odd sight in Sauropolis, to be sure, and he seemed disoriented. Ever helpful to fellow hadrosaurs, Hoothonk stood on his hind legs and let loose a single blast from his crest to get the other's attention, and then asked, "Hello there, traveler. Looking for something? Anything I can help with?"
