Don't worry about it, Dwaggie. That was the lamest thing I ever saw, so it's not as if I found it offensive. - Aric

It is, I suggest we all ignore it and leave him to sulk. I'm not going to forbid these discussions as they've always been here and need to be relayed here whenever one bursts loose at the OMB. There have been big problems at the OMB before when discussions like these went out of hand and turned into verbal wars over religion, be it specifically about evolution, the existence of God or anything else about religion, science and the people. The OMB needs to be protected against these discussions which IS a (self appointed) task of The Temple of Polemic. Too much damage has been done in the past, too many people have been hurt too often. I could give you countless examples in which it went from a normal debate to insults, curses and even treaths. People have left because of these wars, usually the creationists as they always get outnumbered and hurt, Az is no exception either, I can tell you that much. She too has been away the OMB at a few occasions because her freedom of religion was not being respected. It just can't be allowed to happen, I don't want it to explode here either but the OMB is supposed to be a peaceful, idyllic, low rated child friendly OMB... (Ironically naïve, I know but that IS the setup of the OMB.) So yes at the Temple of Polemic there will be debates about this. If anyone goes too far, starts insulting, cursing, treathening or simply gives a reply that stings, stay calm, don't start screaming back, just ignore them and pm me or Az if neccesary. If anyone deliberately insults another, they're getting the post deleted, a ban or any other punishment I or Az find appropriate. They might even end up tied to a chair to watch Disney videos for 24 hours straight.

*Grins* Or Barney videos>) Even beign a creationist, I dislike it when people like this come to the boards and leave with "well you're going to Hell!" That's just giving up the argument and being a little kid. "If you don't play the game I want to, I'll take my toys and go somewhere else." GR! The thing that annoys me the most about it is that they go around saying they're Christians and not acting like it and giving other Christians a bad name. This is why I don't partake in these arguments. I've stated my beliefs to everyone here, I have told you all what I think, and that's all I can do besides praying for you guys (which I do). If posts such as this degrade into name calling by anyone on any side, it will be locked. More of a warning to guests who feel they need not obey basic rules of niceness.

Thanks, Az. I like it when an admin puts his/her foot down. (Not sarcastic, in case you were wondering.)

No problem;) I realize that if I allowed silliness like that to go unchecked, this board would degrade into a flame war of hellish proportions. And I didn't think you were being sarcastic;) Besides, if a raptor puts her foot down, you'd better make sure you're not under it!

You guys are sick, and saddistic! I'll accpet: water torture, beatings, brandings, stocks, racks, hangings, firing squads, burning at the stake, crucifixion, flogging, prison, the chopping block, pulling out fingernails, drawing and quartering, removing fingers, boiling alive, breaking legs/arms/fingers/toes, poking out eyes, medical testing, stoning, buring alive, hanging them up by their fingers, the donkey's head, the wheel, lethal injection, the chair, the gas chamber, and the iron maiden. But what you administrators are suggesting is just plain wrong! ;D

You could still be merciful enough to just hang trouble makers, then bury the body where you buried the rest of the victims of the ToP.

Hey, couldn't feed them to any carnosaurs! Poor saurians would get indigestion... *grins* I'm a little more like BTK- Bind them up with rope made from empty pixi stix straws, torture them by forcing them to watch Disney and Barney, and giving them a nice big raptory Kiss on the cheek to watch them die from haltosis overdose.

Better yet, just feed those spammers to Disney and Barney. Like Daniel and the lions den in the Bible. That would fix them. ;D ;D ;D

Hear hear, and then there were some who thought Vorchia is evil... LOL BTK? Good grief you ARE worse then I sometimes. ROTFL Maybe its a good thing I have no sense of smell and can stand most Disney movies, heehee. But how are pixie stick straws going to hold down a panicking hacker, will you reinforce them with fast drying cement?

No offense to the Bible, and please dont mistake me. I believe many of the things in the Bible happened, to some agree. But look at it. This book has been read and rewritten and rewritten and rewritten again since the time it was originally written. And you can't claim that everyone who rewrote it was doing it from their God's perspective, just what they thought it was at the time. Not that they were all bad people - just that it's possible that with language and other barriers, that many things in there could have been misconstrued and rewritten inaccurately.

Not that they were all bad people - just that it's possible that with language and other barriers, that many things in there could have been misconstrued and rewritten inaccurately. Yeah, that's a pretty good argument against literalism. Unless you have the original Hebrew or Aramaic texts, you're not going to have an undiluted version of God's Word. Everytime you translate, you put something of yourself into the text. Even if you do have the originals, there's no guarantee nothing was lost in the trip between God's lips to human beings' ears. In another forum, I translated the Code of Dinotopia into Latin. Most of it translated fine, but there were some parts that refused to do so. I had to jiggle the translator and use alternate words with possible alternate meanings in order to get a rough approximation of the original text. So, it amuses me to no end to see modern evangelicals and others (Heck, why stop at Christianity? ALL religions that lend themselves to fundamentalism can be included) using english language Bibles (or versions of any holy book if we want to be cosmopolitan) as their basis for the literal "truth" of God's Word. It's some rather rational proof of how big of a chance they have of being absolutely wrong. The only thing sustaining the righteousness of their interpretations is faith in the infallibility of the version of the text they're reading from, which is necessary to cast aside some nagging questions about the book's veracity. As a bit of an aside, I wonder how Protestants feel about using a text that was codified and canonized by the Catholic Church. There was a heck of a lot of gospels floating around. What we have in the modern Bible is essentially what the Catholic Church thought was the true Word of God according to Catholic standards back when everything was canonized. Some things to think about... - Aric
