Hey guys=) I was looking at calanders in the stores the other day and wishing there was a good Dinotopia one out there. No, there won't be a Dinotopia calander for next year. Maybe when the next book comes out... I'll ask Mr. Gurney about it. Anywho, I have a nice idea=) Why don't we each pick a month and do a piece of art for it? If you guys want, I can take them to a printer and have actual calanders printed up, then mail them to everyone. Each piece of art would have to be 8.5"x11" lengthwise. Just take a plain old piece of printer paper, turn it on its side, and draw something, scan it, and send it to me- or if there's no scanner or you just feel like it, you can mail it to me. Clearly, the deadline would have to be something before December so we could get the calanders printed up and out to everyone in time for the new year.
Any takers?
PS- this has also been posted at the OMB to get a little more attention;)
Edit: Here be the months and who is doing them!
January- Buttercup (Buttercup and Smilodons) February- Dakota & Yellowspot (Skygalley and Mtn) March- Rosa (Girl w/ Triceratops) April- Dwaggie (Dolphin pic) May- Tamith (Floral Parade) June- Az (Three-Horned Muse) July- Vorchia (Az Hulaskirt pic) August- Sil (Night of Falling Stars) September- Rosa (September Dreams) October- Noble Dreamhome/Vira (Fall Leaves) November- Vorchia (Pterothingy with knot border) December- Az (Girl w/lantern)

I love the idea, Az! I only wish I could draw or contribute to it in some way. Does everyone get a calendar, or just those that submit art?

Everyone could get one! How about this- you write a poem or something and it's photoshopped over a photograph if you have no artistic ability? You could even just submit a photograph that you feel represents Dinotopia in some way! If we get more than 12 entries, maybe I'll figure out a way to put two pictures on one page or smaller pictures elsewhere on the calander... We'll see how everything comes=)
Ooh, Dwaggie wanted to submit his Dolphin picture. I'll post it shortly.

This is being posted for Barry. He didn't specify a month for it, but I think it'd go great for April, which has Dolphin Day in it. Btw, he posted at the OMB;)

:: Salutes with fiercely curved talons:: Expect more of me on the Island this weekend. And I will do my best to support and promote community art projects- new saurian art to come soon. And once that's done- I'd like a lovely group shot of the admins.
But for now- back to my ship, for where is a vessel without it's Captain?
I look forward to meeting everyone I haven't thus far.

Well a group shot of the admins shouldn't be too hard. Az has models of Az and Vorchia and Trifcorce to represent Tamith, then she'd just have to find a model for Fire et voila, a my little pony perhaps? Currently I am trying very hard to get SOME art done, once its done well, ehh, knowing my drawing speed (or the lack thereof) and number of contests I'm already working on my entry might end up being in time for the 2007 Calendar... ;D I'll try, I like the idea but I am NOT going to make any promises. bdsp Vorchia

Uhhhmmm.... Thats kiiiinda called copy art which goes against the copyright law.... I don't care but if you trace/copy other artists pictures to such a recognisable drawing (Its Seaside Romp isn't it?) might get you in trouble. I'm not angry but I'm just giving you a headsup, ok? People get in trouble for less recognisable copy art then that. I woke up this morning with yet another idea on how to make my life a little harder, I had a wodnerful idea for further complexity to be added in one of my 'artworks'. Heehee. But its for the Olympics contests.

Vorchie is right; no copied works;) The point of this calander is for it to be the original creations of Dinotopias fans. Still, you didn't do a bad job at all! And the best way to grow as an artist is to look at others works and draw off them until you can look at things for yourself and put them down. Why not get a couple of sauropod figures and try drawing them from the models and not a flat picture? I find that helps me tremendously with my works. Right now, I've got a couple of Jem dolls (think 80's Barbie with wild hair and lots of joints that are great for posing) that I put in glasses to make them stand up and I draw off them.
Thanks for the banner image! Maybe I'll use it on the website to link to an online version of the calander;)
Can't wait to see what you cook up, Fire! My character description is still the same. Hey, if you have time to corraborate on a project, I've got something I think would be a lot of fun to do>) Basically, I need your computer coloring skills... I'll PM you details next week.

*Stares at Dakota and Yellowspot's scanner* Ohh a scanner that actually works... You're lucky!!! Heehee (Don't worry, my granddad has a scanner, I'll just have to carry my stuff to his place once its done. Try digging into The Dinosauricon or any other paleo art site. In fact thanks for mentioning Seaside Romp, I just needed the basic proportions of a Sauropod for something, why not one of mr Gurney's? Don't worry it won't be recognisable, I just need basic things like tail length to body length ratio. Anyhow, if you have enough Dinosaur toys (and enough pixy sticks, mountain dew and general insanity) You can even set up a scene then take a picture. I did a hillarious scene involving my model Azzy and my model Hawkeye (Ok, 'Hawkeye' is a JPI raptor, artistic licence anyone??). Az will put it in the album eventually. Uhoh, Az ios going into a collaborative effort with Fire? We're dead aren't we? Well I do have some really good ideas... Now if only I could get them worked out in time... Anyhow, keep drawing, you can't let your admins win, right?
