I was talking with Vorchia on MSN and we got on the subject of spoken books. And we both thought it would be neat if we all got together and made some type of recording for one of the Dinotopia books (We were talking about Dinotopia: lost, but I think we should probably start on one of the small ones first). It would either be a CD or sending (a/several) audio file(s) over the internet.
I don't think it would be too hard to record the voices. The main component you would need would just be a microphone, and some way of sending it to whoever is compiling the audio. MSN even has a voice clip feature which allows you to save sounds sent over to both sides.
Right now it's just an idea, but if enough people are interested, and are capable of doing this, it could happen.
EDIT-- I realized there's a chance we can get in trouble for voice acting one of the books (*cough* lawsuit *cough*). But thought of an alternative. We could voice act one of the Rps! And Dwaggie suggests we could make up a new story just to voice act it!
(To be fair, Dwaggie and I both got the Rp idea at the same time)

Yes, wouldn't it be a great project? I know most of you like roleplaying and this would be taking it a step further. ;D

That would be easy for me. I have text to speech software on my computer and, I can save it in to an MP3 file too.
This is how me and Daniel Sears talk to each other. I type a message record it and then send it to him as an MP3 file via E-Mail.
I also been using this for the Dragon RP on here. I play back what I posted and, if it doesn't sound right , I reedit it again.

Hey that would be awesome! I'm definitely interested and sure hope enough people would be into doing this....... I'll bet JG himself would be interested in listening to it if it ever falls through. This sounds like fun!

Cool! I can do it; I'll just have to get my microphone set up.
What story do we do and if it's a new one, who writes it?

That's the primary question we need an answer to, ain't it? I guess whichever one everyone wants to do, or whoever wants to write one that wants to be voice acted. Heck, we could have a small writing contest to choose one, and the winner gets theirs voice-acted, if we can actually get this going. First we'll have to make sure it's practical though.

This sounds like fun. I like the idea of a writing contest to determine the story.

Is there anymore interest in this project?

Is there anymore interest in this project? Yes, but we just have the problem of what story/book to do! It would be interesting to hear my Song of the Rainy Basin story voiced out, but I'm still not happy with the ending and there aren't enough characters for everyone who may want to act out one. Maybe an old RP?

I can go with either. What does everyone else want to do?

Maybe not for this one, but for another book, we could do the Wiged/wingless battle. That one was loads of fun, and it had plenty of characters... A little silly though, and not very dinotopian, other than, of course, the use of dino characters...

I re-read a few of mine, on Azzy's suggestion, and I don't think I can offer anything with nearly enough voices. Mine all tend to be rather introspective. It'll give me something to try for in the next few months, though. Maybe next year Good luck with it! An RP sounds like the best thing, though edited and cleaned up. Are you going to make it freely available?

If it was up to me, it would be open for everyone on the ToP and OMB.

I'm not sure if I could do it. I'm not even sure we have microphone, but it would be cool to hear a Rp read or voice, with each character saying there part. If I have a microphone, I'd love to join.
