Oh, geez... I wonder if this kid picked this up from watching too much TV while no one was watching him.

You know their defense? They claim to have not known it was illegal. Right... Guess they don't watch TV after all!

Is it that easy to fake dollars that even ten year olds can do it??? Here the scanning software for PC's blocks when one tried to scan Eurodollar billetes. Does the software not have a similar safety against scanning USD??

Nah, there's really nothing like that here... It's pretty easy if you want to get caught.

Funny thing is... some of the newer bills are supposed to be harder to counterfeit.

Kids aren't stupid. Scary thought, but I can certainly believe it.

Funny thing is... some of the newer bills are supposed to be harder to counterfeit. I've seen a pretty good counterfeit. I have to check all bills over a $20 that go through my register with a counterfeit pin and I found one. It was one of the new bills, and was actually out just as they were released. I wouldn't have caught it if I haddn't checked with the pen.

Funny thing is... some of the newer bills are supposed to be harder to counterfeit. Yes, And I know why too. If you hold one of those new bills to the light, you will see inside the bill a watermark. It is a thin line with words on it. If it is a like a $5 bill it will say USA Five on the line. Or like a $50 it would say USA 50. That's how you can tell if it is real. A bank teller showed me this watermark. Very cool eh?

My question is where on earth did they learn the techniques required to do this in the first place? Does anyone else think taht there might be an adult involved directly somewheer besides me? I mean, a lot of people who deal drugs use kids to make deliveries and such...who is to say that they haven't started using kids for other stuff and that this might have been some kind of test run? Just a thought that i find particualarly unnerving.

Adult involved... not really. I mean what adult would think lets counterfit $1 bills? Now kids... I could see them printing out that first $1 bill on the printer and thinking they are so cool rich enough to flant their big daddy warbucks in the school Cafeteria... Wasn't as cool as they had planned. 10 year olds... they KNEW it was wrong. But most likely had no idea how much trouble it was worth!

Well I never said it had to be a smart adult! ;D I forgot $1 bills were present You are right, they probably didn't realize just how much trouble that it could get them in...unfortunately, they are learning now.

I mean what adult would think lets counterfit $1 bills? Ummmmmm... Me. Hey! I'm not saying I did it, I'm just saying that if I was ever going to counterfeit something, it'd be $1 bills because those are NEVER checked at registers. It's always the $20's and up, or occasionally a $10. but, you also have to take into account the fact that you'll probably spend more than $1 in materials to make the $1 bill! My time is better spent listing junk on E-bay than printing out my own money.

I saw a counterfeit 20 last week. It was pretty interesting. On first glance, it looked just like a regular 20. But if you held it, you'd notice that the paper just didn't feel right, and not all of the markings on the bill were completely correct, although they were close. It was pretty interesting, really. And now I know that I can recognize a counterfeit bill if I ever have to.

I love the new $10's. If you look at the little, red torch on them to the bottom right of Hamilton's head, it's raised and embossed. Same with the 10 in the bottom right corner; it's raised and embossed in addition to being printed with the two-tone ink. But, if you ask me, I still think our new money is looking more and more like Euros. I want my greenbacks back!
