YahooS. Korean man dies after 50 hours of computer gamesWed Aug 10, 3:48 PM ET SEOUL (Reuters) - A South Korean man who played computer games for 50 hours almost non-stop died of heart failure minutes after finishing his mammoth session in an Internet cafe, authorities said on Tuesday. The 28-year-old man, identified only by his family name Lee, had been playing on-line battle simulation games at the cybercafe in the southeastern city of Taegu, police said. Lee had planted himself in front of a computer monitor to play on-line games on Aug. 3. He only left the spot over the next three days to go to the toilet and take brief naps on a makeshift bed, they said. "We presume the cause of death was heart failure stemming from exhaustion," a Taegu provincial police official said by telephone. Lee had recently quit his job to spend more time playing games, the daily JoongAng Ilbo reported after interviewing former work colleagues and staff at the Internet cafe. After he failed to return home, Lee's mother asked his former colleagues to find him. When they reached the cafe, Lee said he would finish the game and then go home, the paper reported. He died a few minutes later, it said. ---------------------------------------------- Huh. At least he finished the session... Gamer, I salute thee! *bows head* Anyway, that's... obsessive. I hope none of you folks are like that... - Aric

I like to play computer and online games too but not for that long. The most I ever did was 10 hours a day.

Yerk. I wonder what made him do this. Certainly the poor guy had something else to do?

Dude, that's some serious computer time! Don't you actually start to hallucinate after 36 hrs without sleep? I'm sure those little naps he took didn't last too long or he wouldn't have died from it.
*laughs* What an argument against my future kids>) "No video games! There was one guy who actually died from playing them!"

The Koreans are game monsters. They hold all these massive online gaming tournaments, and win all the international competitions.
Especially Starcraft.
I bet the kid was playing Starcraft.

Actually, to those of us with strong constitutions, hallucinations only set in after 60 hours (two and a half days) awake, and then, I had been engaging in heavy physical labor for the full 60 hours before I started hallucinating. A few doubleshots set me straight until approximately 25 hours later when I finished the task and collapsed in exhaustion on the damp soil. It was a landscaping job with an impossible deadline. I was the only one who stayed to see it finished. *lol* I made 300 bucks for doing it. payed for my PS2... which I have been known to play for 48 hours straight. XD I know, I know... when I do something, I'm single minded. When I do nothing, I tend to wander in and out of focus.... *lol* I've been known to apply myself to one task for days on end with no rest. my heart is *GAH* fine *THUMPATHUMPATHUMP* really. XD

60 hours, without hallucinations? That's not physically possible, even for the most fit people. If you were up that long your body took micro-sleeps (microsleep and hallucinations aren't related, but both would've happened)and the hallucinations didn't register because of intense sleep deprivation. Most likely, you don't remember those 60 hours, and parts of them are hallucinations when you fell into a trance-like/dream-like state and dreamed about doing what you were doing. Even with caffene it is unbelieveably difficult. I've done it once, with major chemical enhancements to my body, and yes, you will hallucinate after a period of about a day and a half, then pass out somewhere between day 2 and 4.

Oy. I'd be seeing purple and green polka-dotted pterosaurs flying on the walls by then.
