I thought you all would like to know that I have joined the United States Army. Big shock I know and in case you're wondering i'm not going to be fighting. My job in the army is Food Service Ops...or Cook for short. I guess being a raptor my specialty will be Sushi I will leave for basic training on July 12th to Fort Jackson, South Carolina. I will be in the army for 3 years. Oh...and in case you were wondering you will still be able to see me around while i'm in the army so you won't have to miss me. I will have access to the internet in my free time while i'm there. Umm...I think that's about it...any questions you have I will answer. Breathe Deep, Seek Peace. ~Oggie~

The army! Always a nice career move, especially if you're not going to be shot at!
*Salutes*
And it's great that we'll still be able to talk ^_^

Thanks alot.
It was really nice to hear when I heard I was going to continue staying in touch with my friends online. Plus there are other things I like to do that I will be able to do there in my spare time, like sports. Makes it alot more comfortable to think about me going there.
Still Army life will be alot different from the life i'm used to. Possibly the thing i'll have to deal with the most is homesickness (NO ROCKY MOUNTAINS??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? ;D ), especially since the furthest i've been from home is California, soon I will be in SC. Of course I will be given time to leave and go home for a while. I plan on doing that for Christmas.

In my opinion, the ARMY is an excellent career move...of course I am biased seeings as how my father is in the ARMY. I grew up as an ARMY brat and you are right, it will be a lot different but I think that you can handle it! Good Luck!

You do that Dwaggie. I hope you do go again while i'm there. I'd like to see you there. I don't think there would be any other good excuses for me going to the beach.
For me I never thought I would go. I thought I would be very unlikely to be in any military because I didn't think I was cut out for it. The reason for me deciding to do it now is that I will need the Army College Fund to help me pay for college, also I felt that the monthly pay would be nice. Plus the job training for the job I chose would be really nice I think too. I know that the three years will be worth it and for the most part I may even enjoy it.

You WHAT?! *salutes* It appears that we have lost another member to the military. Good luck and I'll be praying for you. But why'd you pick the Army? Air Force is better;) Well, according to my brother who is an E-8 Tech Seargent in the Air Force. I guess cook doesn't sound like too bad a position. Good luck with all the potatos you'll have to peel!

Well first of all as I said before I should still be around even when i'm in the Army. I should still be in contact in the Army as there I will have internet access in my free time while i'm there. I don't know if I can say the same for if I were to go to Iraq but i'd let you all know if that was going to happen, and thank you for your prayers. I chose the Army because it was the best choice for me, and I wouldn't have joined if I didn't think it would be. I did think about the Air Force but I found out that the Army College Fund is better than that of the Air Force. Overall the Army was the better choice, for me anyway. Your brother might have it better in the Air Force than the Army...maybe, but for me the Army was the best overall choice. No, Cook sounds like a fun job to do in the Army. When choosing my job I tried to pick the job I can see myself doing the most and the one I think I would enjoy most and do the best at. I had it narrowed down from about 100 choices down to 3. I had Food Service Ops of course, Topographer (I think it was called ) where I would be studying maps of a certain area and some other stuff , and then there was Driving. If I would have chose driving I would have been driving those big trucks around hauling something from tanks to soldiers from place to place. Likely I would have ended up in Iraq very quickly if I chose that job as they have a high demand for that over there. Being a cook will be fun I think, plus it's a highly respected job in the Army. The soldiers will respect you because you are cooking the food that they will eat, atleast they better respect the cook...or else Muahahahaha *cough* Oh yeah and i'll have a gun too

Have to correct myself on my brothers rank- He was able to put the stripes on his uniform on April 1st, so he is now a Master Seargent, not a Tech Seargent.

Uhhhh... I would NOT trust anything your brother says, under any circumstance on APRIL FIRST. I remember that 'bijvoer voor honden' prank and I have healthy amount of respect if not fear for his prankster abilities...

Well Dwaggie I will only be in SC for Basic Training I believe, which is 9 weeks starting in the middle of July. I would hope that you would go there on vacation during that time, if you do. If not then we would have to meet some other way at another time.
