As Tia and Bandele entered the infirmary, Tia couldn't help but feel concerned. What if Braveheart didn't make it? What would happen then? She shook her head as if to shake out the thought. She was going to be positive about this no matter what happened. Upon seeing Bandy and Tia, Doctor Collins stood, "I'm guessing you came to visit Braveheart?" he asked with a twinkle in his eye
Tia nodded while Bandy answered, "Yes, doctor, does he want to see us?"
"Why don't you ask him yourself?" Doctor Collins suggested, walking to a curtain and pulling it aside
There sat Braveheart, upright and reciting poetry to a young child who looked even worse off than he had been. Tia's heart paused at the scene. She had supposed this room would be Braveheart's. Instead, he was up and about, reciting his famous poetry to sick hatchlings. He turned to Tiasalle and grinned, "When the Damsel returns, my heart burns and I can say no more than 'welcome'"
Laughing and crying at the same time, Tia ran to Braveheart and embraced him. She pulled away and wiped the tears from her eyes, "But...how? You were delerious when I brought you here, how did you heal so quickly?"
Braveheart glanced up at Bandy, then looked back at Tia, dropping his rhymes, "Before, I didn't understand what was going on. I thought I would only be a burden on you if I lived, so I was killing myself" he nodded towards Doctor Collins, "He fixed that. Now I know what you did so that I could live. Tiasalle, I have never been so loved by anyone before and I am honored to call you friend, but..." he trailed off
"You miss your family?" Tia tried
Braveheart shook his head.
"You have a mate you want to see again?" She suggested
Braveheart looked at her strangely and shook his head again. "No, I'm too young for such things. However, I was wondering if..." Braveheart sighed, "I would like to have you as my Human Partner, Tiasalle Tyler"
Tia grinned, "And I would love to have you as my Saurian Partner, Braveheart Thecodontosaurus" she replied
Braveheart's grin could have passed for the Polongo River as they exited the sick room. However, much to Bandy's bewilderment, Braveheart snarled at him as they passed and left the Infirmary to celebrate this new turn of events. Bandy looked at Doctor Collins, "What was that all about?" he asked
"Don't take it personally" said the doctor, chuckling, "Many male Saurian Partners are protective of their female partners. Let them settle their friendship a little more, though, before you hang around Tiasalle any more. They can get very aggressive"
Confused, Bandele shook his head, "I'll take your word for it, doctor, and thank you, for everything"
Doctor Collins nodded and watched as Bandy exited and turned the opposite direction of Tia and Braveheart's path. More than likely taking the trodden down path to his longtime friends, Mr. and Mrs. Saunders.
Sure enough, that was exactly where Bandele was headed. Whenever he felt stressed or worried or simply wanted to talk, that was where his feet automatically took him. He knocked on the door and immediately Mrs. Saunders, a beautiful woman in her late forties, answered. "Bandy! What a pleasant surprise, come in and sit down, dinner is being prepared, if you care to join us"
"Thank you, Mrs. Saunders" Bandy replied with a smile, he had learned long ago that it was pointless to refuse her in such offers
Taking a seat in the livingroom, Mr. Saunders shook his hand, "Welcome, lad. What brings you here?"
Bandele smiled and leaned back comfortably in his chair, "Woman problems" he said
Mr. Saunders raised an eyebrow, "Woman problems, huh? That's a new one"
Bandy nodded, he had been betrothed to the Saunders' daughter, who had mysteriously disappeared, what was it, five, six years ago? Ever since her disappearance, he had refused to love another, but with Tia, it was different, she felt...familiar. Being with her reminded him of the times he and Miniya Saunders had played as children. "Is she pretty?" Mr. Saunders asked with a touch of pain in his voice he was struggling to hide
"Very, she actually reminds me a lot of...well, you know" he said, trying not to bring up emotions that had long since been buried
"She sounds wonderful" said Mrs. Saunders from the dining room
"What's the problem?" Mr. Saunders asked
"Well, it's her soon-to-be Saurian Partner, Braveheart, he won't let me court her until their partnership settles down, but that could take years" Bandele confided
"Oh, most male partners are like that, Bandy" said Mrs. Saunders, nudging her own partner, an Ornithomimus named Kinktail, "Kinktail was like that when Mr. Saunders and I were courting, especially since he didn't like Quickclaw"
Bandele looked at the old Saber stretched out on the rug in front of the fire. "Believe me" said Mr. Saunders in a low whisper, "You have it easy"
"Dinner is ready" Mrs. Saunders said, "Are you boys going to stop whispering or do I have to drag you here myself?"
Mr. Saunders chuckled, stood, and helped Bandele up, "I guess we can take this conversation elsewhere" he said, and the five of them gathered for Evening Feast.
Tia nodded while Bandy answered, "Yes, doctor, does he want to see us?"
