Silence (v 2.0) teaser
________________________________________
--it's towards the end, and goes along with another section, but still a teaser!--
Chad found Yvonne curled up in a ball, tears running down her pale face. He sidled up next to her, wrapping an arm around her slim shoulders. His still dripping overcoat fell loosely upon her bed.
“What’s wrong, ‘Vonne?” He asked, his voice cooling and soothing to the upset girl.
“I hate the Romans.” She mumbled through tears, turning a small coin in her hand.
“How come?” Chad pulled off his overcoat and threw it on the floor, then sat behind Yvonne, and pulled her close. She settled back, content in his arms, but still crying.
“They oppressed my people. They killed my relatives. And now, they surround me. All around me, I’m reminded of the stories that came down through my family.” She threw the coin across the room.
“That’s in the past, darling.” Chad kissed Yvonne’s neck lightly and stroked her hair. “Why be angry at them now for things they did so long ago?”
“I don’t know.” Yvonne sighed. “I guess I need someone to be angry at, other than myself.”
“You know I tolerate your drinking and drugs, but I don’t like you being angry at yourself.”
Outside, lighting flashed, and a rumble tore through the tense air, a sign the storm was worsening. The rain drummed a dull rhythm against the stone of the house, a calming sound, allowing Yvonne to relax. She wiped her eyes and leaned further against Chad’s chest, gently rising and falling.
“What do you think Anthony and Andraste are planning?” Yvonne whispered.
“I don’t fully know, but I do know that getting out of the city within the fortnight is smart. Bran wants to burn this city to show how powerful he is. I don’t think Tony was prepared for how far Bran was going to take this. To him, it was just a pipe-dream, but to Bran, it’s a method for him to show us just how insane he is.” Chad sighed, running his fingers deep within Yvonne’s black hair.
“Sometimes I wish that I wasn’t born with a bloodline of such darkness. Sometimes, I wish I could have been born in the Outside. What you tell me of the Outside sounds thrilling. Here, everything is mundane and boring.” Yvonne’s voice cracked in synch with a bolt of lighting. The sound of the rain got stronger.
“Climb to the Tentpole with me.” Chad said. “It is such a thrill to stand on top of the world, surrounded by the most peaceful people on this Island.”
“I might.” Yvonne smiled. Somewhere, a firecracker went off, and then another, and another. Chad sat up.
“We need to get out of here.” He said quickly. He lifted Yvonne up and got off the bed, throwing his overcoat on. “I can’t believe he is going to try now, when everything is so wet.” Chad mumbled to himself.
“What’s going on?” Yvonne sat up, confused.
“Please, we need to leave. I’ll explain when we’re safe.” Chad said, hurriedly. He pulled out Yvonne’s boots and cloak. Confused, the girl put the boots on, laced them up, and wrapped the cloak around her body, pulling the hood up. Chad moved her low table, and pulled sharply up on a handle in the floor. With a groan, the heavy door opened.
“Where are we going?” Yvonne asked, as Chad ushered her into the Underground.
“Out.” He left the door open and ran down the stairs to the passageway. He hurried down the passage, and up another flight of stairs. Shoving away a manhole cover, he emerged into the rain on University Boulevard. Helping Yvonne out, he ran down the boulevard.
“Chad! What’s going on?” Yvonne pleaded.
“The firecrackers were Bran’s signals that he was going to try and light the city on fire.” Chad said. “He has his people set up around the city, and this boulevard is the last to be burned.”
Behind them, the storm that was raging offshore came closer to consuming the shore. To the right of them, a bright fire flared up in the market square. To their left, another fire flared. The rain ceased as they slowed slightly. The gates of the city loomed. The heavy wooden doors were shut tight. Chad stopped, scanned the wall, and went to a rope. He grabbed a hold and climbed the rope up the wall, followed by Yvonne. At the top of the wall, he paused, and helped her up. They looked back into the city as two more fires cropped up and began to burn.
“This is the end.” Yvonne mumbled, sitting down sharply upon the top of the wall. Tears welled up, and she broke down again. Chad wrapped his arm around her shoulders once more and held her close, her tears soaking into his shirt.
“Are your parents in there?” Chad asked.
“No. They’re in Prosperine. My world is in there, however. And now, it’s over.” Yvonne choked back the tears.
“Tony and Marr are safe, though.” Chad kissed her forehead.
Screams drifted in on the air. Anguished screams. Frightened screams. Screams of the many people and dinosaurs, learning that they are doomed, trapped within the burning city’s walls. Somewhere, Chad thought he heard Bran cackling evilly.

ohhhh. once again, evil rusty triumphs. I like the idea, shocking and nasty, but maybe a little more depiction would be nice. it would be great if you could tie in the tears of yvonne with the rain and the pain of the others who let it get out of control 'her sorrow was a frustrated, muffled sorrow, dampened by her regrets, whereas his burned with a flame fiercer than the fires which he lit'. something like that. goes wonders to enhancing the atmosphere. other than that, KEEP GOING. I'd like to see some more, that's for sure.
