If you noticed I've been a little inactive on these boards lately, I got a good reason. For the past four months or so, my brother, whom I live with, had been without a job. (Guess who footed the bills all that time!) Anyway, he'd been looking, and eventually found one! (Service advisor at an auto dealership, 14 mechanics to dispatch work to.) Anyone whose been out of a job knows the hastle and procedures there is to get a job these days - like enlisting into the army! Anyway, he finally got it, went through all that %$#$&; and now is his first day at work! _____ Now let's tell you MY role in all this: (Told you I footed the bill...) I was in charge of handling all the admin paperwork involved in hiring. Had to get all his other work records organised. Played phone tag with all the other jobs he applied for while home. Drove him to interviews when his car had no gas. Made time to field phonecalls between him and new boss. Ran around doing domestic errands while he was at interviews. (Since I live with him, I thought it was in my own best interests to do all this.) If this is what it takes to get another job, I hope I don't get fired from mine!...
(Sorry for rant...)

It sounds very rough and hard to have to go through all that to get a job.

Hey, Thundertail=)
I totally know what you mean about what it takes to get a job! Last year, my temp job for Chase ended in July, my next temp job didn't come until December and only lasted a couple of months, and then I didn't have a job until this past April! I'm just happy the bank I work for now hired me full time and directly, not as a temp. Because of all the hassle with past employment contacts and dates when I worked there, I try to keep all of my records updated as soon as possible. For example, I've already updated my resume with the start date of my current job, even though I hope not to update it for another five years or so!
By the way, I think your brother really needs to pay the rent for the next couple of months now that he has a job. Seriously, it's totally unfair to mooch of someone without paying them back when you get a job. I really hope he steps up and offers to do that himself =)
Best of luck to your brother with the new job!

I'm glad it's over too! He's been at it for many weeks now, and the bills are starting to stabilise. He says to just keep the money I make for emergency only. He'll foot the bill for a while!
_____ See, we been doing this for a decade now: One is out of work, the other supports - and vica-versa. Both work and we're on easy street.
(Just hope it's not my turn out of work next time... I wouldn't be able to take the employment process *shudders*)
