I saw Jesse Jackson and other African-American citizens crying on CNN and I totally understand. After centuries of slavery and oppression at least one black man has made it to the top bar. Progress is real. Interestingly, as liberal as Europe is, America (you know, the country that has yet to nationally recognize gay marriage, have socialized healthcare - for now - , and to otherwise lag behind Europe in overall progressiveness) can soon claim to have a black president while - as far as I can tell - no European country can claim to have a non-white person as their head of government. Looks like we beat you on that account. ;D Also, watching the celebrations on television has led at least one poster over at a science fiction board to compare it to this. Four years after the world watched in stupefied shock as America re-elected one of its worst presidents it can now celebrate with unadulterated joy in the correction of that idiotic mistake. My faith in America has been restored in no small part. - Aric

Congratulations with your new president people. You're indeed ahead of poor ole Europe with having a black president. ^_^ I just wouldn't quite compare it to Starwars, after all, who would be the Empire, hmm? ;-)

So the Galactic Empire would, in this case, be the United States in general, and perhaps the Republicans in particular. Barack Obama (Luke Skywalker) is the redeemer and the Democratic Party is the Rebel Alliance. ;D But really, I put that Youtube video there more for the general feeling of world-wide elation and hope. - Aric

Barack Obama (Luke Skywalker) is the redeemer So, what are you trying to say here?Just as Luke Skywalker saved his father from the Dark Side and restored his goodness, Barack Obama's election saved America from the Orwellian nightmare that has plagued us for the past eight years and will hopefully save us from the effects of Bush's policies which will to continue to plague us for years to come. Honestly, I thought the metaphor was obvious. It was to a lot of those people who posted comments in that youtube video page. Also, the whole thing is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the almost messianic attitude of some Obama fans. Again, I thought it was obvious. - Aric
