"Pets, as in animals that you take care of..." "They are definitely not as sentient as anything that I've seen here... which leads to my next question, why are the creatures here so sentient?" The plaza that we were passing seemed awesome and intriguing. My head was constantly twitching from left to right and up and down just to try to take in the scenery. I could hear water up ahead and was immediately fascinated.

"why wouldn't they be? Saurians have been on this planet millions of years before us, it is no wonder they are as smart as they are," asnwered Zenith as he stopped at the edge of Mosasaur Canal. Zenith smiled as he watched Califf's head whirl around. "Overwhelming?" Zenith asked with a grin as a gondala pulled by a cryptoclidus.

"Makes sense... I guess." "Just a little bit!" I said answering his second question. I noticed the animal in the canal pulling the gondola and was nervous, but seeing the grin on Zenith's face, I felt he had meant for me to see it so I grinned back. I could tell, that even though all this was new; and a new life was opening up before me- I had at least one friend who wouldn't cease to tantalize me with all sorts of new facts and creatures along my way to learning the ropes! "So every creature here is very sentient?"

"of course," Replied Zenith then turned to the cryptoclidus, "Del tak al matta," he said with a bit of a bow and the saurian echoed him, "Could you take us to the Guest Registry building?" he asked. The Saurian nodded and Zenith carfully got onto the boat.

I followed Zenith into the boat. "Del talk al matter" I replied doing my best to repeat what Zenith had said that seemed to get a positive response from the large creature. Traveling first by air and then by water all in one day upon the power of dinosaurs was almost more than I could bare! Truly, I must have died in the plane crash and gone to heaven. I pinched myself to be sure. Nope, I was definitely still alive!

Zenith chuckled as Claiff tried his best to mimic the greeting, then looked to the confused cryptoclidus, "He's a new dolphinback," Zenith explained and the cryptoclidus nodded and began to swim down the canal.

As it seemed to be explained by the statement I began to become curious as to what "dolphinback" meant. So I asked Zenith; I also apologized for whatever it was that I said that seemed to leave our aquatic host so confused.

"Dolphinback means your just new on the island," Zenith said with a grin, "And don't worry you will learn to speak saurian in time," he added patting Califf on the back, "it does take some practice."

"So I guess, that leads me to ask- when do I start?" I frowned at the thought of having to spend years trying to learn to talk saurian. After thinking this I asked, "How long did it take you to learn?" I grinned and waited for the answer.

"I grew up in Bonabba, so saurian came easily to me," Zenith said, "Bonabba in just north of here on the edge of the Rainy Basin," he added pre-empting Califf's next question. "My parents sent me here to Waterfall City when I was eight to complete my studies. I think they sent me here thinking my adventurous spirit would land me in trouble in the Rainy Basin," chucked Zenith as the gondella quietly sliced through the water of the canal.

"Is there adventure to be had in the Rainy Basin?" I asked as I was also an adventurous spirit... I figured that Waterfall City may make a nice home base; but, I also knew that with my personality that I would have to wander at some point. I was not afraid of danger, I figured that Zenith would understand this especially after that awesome ride we had by skybax to get here!

"Well the Rainy Basin is where most of the carnivorous saurians live," replied Zenith. the gondala pulled up next to the shore of the canal besdie a big building with "Guest Registry" beautifully painted on a sign over the door. "Looks like we're here," Zenith said and got up and stepped off the boat.

Seeing that they were "here" I left the gondola and followed Zenith. Carnivorous saurians? As in the meat-eaters like T-Rex and Giganotosaurus and Deinonychus? That would be an honor to meet any of these- especially if they were intelligent enough to not eat you on sight. Anyway, as they approached the door, I took extra time to notice the workmanship. It was curious and beautiful.

Inside the building, behind a desk stood a Stenonychosaurus. "Del tak al matta" it said as it saw the two humans walk in. "Del tak al matta," replied Zenith as he stepped up to the desk, "I believe the mayor sent a messenger bird about a new dolphinback," he add looking back at Califf. "Oh my yes, how exciting," the saurian said and walked out from behind the desk and walked up to aliff to shake his hand, "Very nice to meet you, please come right this way," it said and led Califf and Zenith to a large scroll. "Recorded on this scroll, you can see the names of those shipwrecked souls whom destiny has delivered to our lands, they number thousands, from all corners of the earth, from every centuriy, those poor unfortunates, cast away on the winds of misfortune, only to find a better life here on the shores of Dinotopia, and we are their descendants…welcome" The Stenonychosaurus said Califf a quill, "Please sign here"

"Califf McClure" I scribbled in my best cursive. I was surprised at how long the scroll was and even more so that this saurian could talk. I figure that this is relatively normal occurrence as Zenith seemed to take all this in stride. "It is a privilege to meet you!" I remarked addressing this fine example of a Stenonychosaurus. I was slightly shocked to meet a dinosaur that spoke probably better English than I did. Not knowing what to expect next I looked around the room. It seemed really beautiful as though everything was a work of art.
