Just curious Dragonskin got me thinking with his post about that Hawaiian station.
If Dinotopia had a radio station, what would they play? Any ideas? This should be fun to find out what you all on here have to say about this. ;D

Given what I know of Dinotopia I would say probably songs about peace and life, ones that told a story or represented their world of dinosaurs and humans (ex: songs containing dinosaur sounds and musical notes representative of the theme intended in the song being played, songs with words of encouragement or about the balance of life and our role in it). Or just anything that catches their interest. Probably not rap or metal though as those tend to have rather harsh and negative words in them and can be difficult to follow. A Dinotopian radio station would definitely be quite interesting to listen too.

I'm guessing the music might be predominantly folk music.
Of course, that's assuming they don't get anything from outside the island.

It'd probably be highly varied considering all the different cultural influences of the human population alone... They'd of course also have all sorts of music the saurians might have came up with, doesn't Arthur Denison go to a sauropod's concert at one point during one of the books? I guess you can broadcast those concerts too, maybe even live? And you'd have live commenting of the olympics of course.

Well, there certainly wouldn't be any synthpop or electric guitars!
Basin music, I have decided, consists mainly of growls, drums, and loads of other percussion stuff.
But, the real question is, who needs a radio when you have those loud parasaurolophi down the street who sing at all hours of the night and day?

Arghh no, not the continuous hooting of those cretaceous cows! I like music just fine but I dont´need to hear every off key practise session, day and night!!! I´d move to a quieter place, the Tentpole perhaps. No wait, then I don´t have access to the great library... lol

Growls? Maybe for the larger carnosaurs... but raptor music would be a bit different. There would be some drums, yes, but there would be lots of more musical sounds alongside growls, such as trills, clicks, churrs, squees, squawks, etc.

I know there once was a whole discussion about musical intruments on Dinotop[ia and on what kind of musical instruments could be used by saurians. That and I know that in HOD I believe, there are some Deinonychus making music on various intruments... The most obvious possibility is of course the voice and drums.

A combination of various dinosaur sounds and musical instruments. Each depending on the region. Voice and instruments goes well together. I wouldn't mind listening to a radio station that played that kind of music. I like your idea for the raptor music Minstelae. There is a Song of Dinotopia in the first book as well as a little bit of one as a link on the main Dinotopia website. If anyone needs help finding it I can post a link to it here. I am rather curious, what kindof music would you have Vorchia?

"Come forth in joy to greet the morn?" That one? Hehe. Thanks for liking my idea. I'd be curious to see those deinies playing music, too.

*flips through 'Dinotopia Lost'* Ok its clearly not in this one, the only Deinonychus in here is Tarqua and he isn't making any music... *continues with 'Hand of Dinotopia'* Of course its near the END of the book but yes after flipping over 300 pages, here we go... Its the little 'party' thing after Sylvia introduced a Deinonych tribe to the concept of net-fishing. I'm quoting page 343 of 'Hand of Dinotopia': "From their skillfully woven backpacks several of the dromaeosaurs produced musical instruments: flutes suitable for fingering with clawed hands, drumsticks to be energetically applied to the most convenient hollow log or tree, a small stringed mouth harp easily plucked by selective fangs and a cleverly designed folded guitar like device that could be either played by feet or hands." Now if you've ever taken a good look at any picture of Deinonychus's teeth and claws you really have to wonder just what kind of string goes into that mouth harp and guitar?? I mean even if they had access to metal wire, (anything else would snap I think), metal wire would seriously damage their teeth... It'd probably kill their teeth faster then they can replace them naturally! Metal wire can probably be aquired in Vulcaneum. As for flutes, I guess some saurians could play a flute if they could close their mouths effectively enough. If not, it could still be done if they had something like a rubber mouthpiece that would go over the snouth and allow them to send air through the flute. Many instruments could be adapted of course. I don't know how well all the saurian species can SING... I only know that Vorchia's singing voice has the power to break glass, make milk go sour, cause migraine and is always as far off key as is possible within the laws of physics. I can listen to almost any music (just no hardcore at 6 a.m. please!) but I like Celtic and classical music best. And I really like Abba. Yes my friends, I'm weird, I'm totally off the chart... Can you ever forgive me? jkjk

Hehe, I like just about everything, except most rap and some country. And I love the hardcore stuff, lol! Yes, the stuff you don't want played at 6am. Celeea can sing pretty well. She's got a pretty voice. But she doesn't think so and is really shy about it. Lol, Croco often goes around saying "BDSP radio, you're on the air!"

So the Croco--Dile still hasn't lost his touch eh? Hehe!

Lol, no. He still likes Dinotopia, although he's more into the furry community now, and isn't into Dinotopia as much. But he does still say that, lol!
*sighs* I terribly miss Speedwing. Remember his skybax? I had become good friends with him, despite him being a skybax. And now he is bye bye.
