I think this is where the
BBC big read comes in. I watched some of it as it was on TV in 2003 and I copied its book lists for my own 'must read' list. My list is that one, plus a few other recommendations and a few Dutch books.
Don't ask me how in hell 'Pride and Prejudice' ended up on the second place
. Really, I TRIED to read that and gave up after one page. lol
'famous' books I have already read (not all from the list):
LOTR, Hobbit, Silmarillion and the Lost Tales by J.R.R Tolkien.
Nineteeneightyfour by George Orwell
Animal Farm by George Orwell
Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone by JK Rowling
Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets by JK Rowling
(Does she know 'JK' is 'just kidding' on the net??)
One Hundred Years of Solitude, Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Alice's Adventures In Wonderland by Lewis Carroll
Through the looking glass by Lewis Caroll
Charlie and the Chocolate factory by Roald Dahl
Matilda by Roald Dahl
George's Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl
James And The Giant Peach by Roald Dahl
The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett
A Tale Of Two Cities by Charles Dickens
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
The Clan Of The Cave Bear by Jean M Auel (This is the only book on the list I would recommended for lighting the BBQ with)
The Hound Of The Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle
(Ok, I read a book which had ALL the Sherlock Holmes stories...)
The Lost world by Arthur Conan Doyle
The Lost World by Michael Crichton
Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton
The andromeda crisis by Michael Crichton
The War Of The Worlds by H. G. Wells
The Time Machine by H. G. Wells
The Horse Whisperer by Nicholas Evans (Bad but not as bas as Auel.)
20.000 leages under the Sea by Jules Verne
Gulliver's travels (Ok I read half of that but was fun and I need to pick it up again)
Oh yes, I also read a bunch of the Dragonrider's of Pern books by Anne mc Caffery as well as some of the Animorphs books by an author I don't remember.
I want to read The Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy but its hard to get.
I'll just make a 'must read' thread. then we can all add to it and make a pick.
