Tonight at 9:00 PM, the History Channel is airing a documentary called "Ape to Man: The Evolution of Evolution." I think everyone who gets involved in the debates on these boards should watch it, and perhaps we can open up a discussion on the program.
EDIT: Watching this documentary made me think of something: what do creationists think of hominids?

I think they think the hominids were pre-flood people and that there were actually several floods throughout history that make for the geological strata and fossil record with hiatuses. Just like everyone else believed in Cuvier's time, the theory is still satisfactory for many of them, up to today.
I can get Discovery and National geographic channel over here along with the BBC1&2 and CNN but thats all I can get of the english spoken channels. I'd love to have watched it though...

I liked the show. I particularly liked how they presented the models of human evolution without actually telling people that they were largely outmoded. It gets people thinking about the older models. Then, the show comes around and overturns it. It's a nice exercise in the way science can and must change their theories to fit new evidence.

Yeah, I thought it was well produced. The reenactments were well done, from the costumes to the acting, which of course wasn't the point but it helped -- doing the documentary in a narrative style like that really helped engross people who maybe wouldn't normally watch a History Channel documentary: my little sister even got into it, at times.
As for Cuvier's time: why would a Biblical literalist accept that sort of explanation? Multiple floods? Multiple species of humans?
