Well they never usually make it to the local (Netherlands) news unless they're unusual in strength so there's very little meteorological fact for me to form a well thought through opinion. However as of lately it seems we get tons and tons of meteorlogical info from THAT part of the United States. (However they do NOT bother to tell me how Puerto Rico fares? It too is in the zone that gets hit by tropical storms but somehow you only get the storm in the news when it hates the U.S. coast. Yes well, I know, Puerto Rico is doing fine and is very much used to storms but still.) Anyhow this morning around 6:30 while going to the trainstation I heard the most recent storm, with the innocent name of 'Rita' had become a category five and was heading for Texas. That sounds bad, I'm sorry. I am however immensely relieved to hear that the officials have learned a lesson or two from Katrina and immediately started evacuations and organised help for after the storm. I'm sorry for those who live there but at least now it won't have to be the kind of disaster Katrina was. Is the number of storms the US are getting this year unusual? I don't know, as I said, I never get to hear anything about them unless they hit Puerto Rico (Tamith lives there) or are exceptionally strong. Tamith (the infamous but elusive admin) is into meteorology a lot and is probably staring at the Rita sattellite pictures intently. Too bad she isn't around a lot to comment. I only know the bare basics (or half that) of storms. I hope everyone is well away from the storm's direct path??
