"Mother Sets Fire to Daughter's Rapist"

London: Taking the law in her own hands, a Spanish mother set afire a man who raped her teenaged daughter and allegedly taunted her about the assault, a report here said today.

The rapist Antonio Cosme Velasco Soriano, who later succumbed to injuries, had been sent to jail for nine years in 1998, but was let out on a three-day pass and returned to his home town of Benejuzar, 50 km south of Alicante, on the Costa Blanca.

While there, he passed his victim's mother in the street and allegedly taunted her about the attack. He is said to have called out: "How's your daughter?" before heading into a crowded bar, The Sunday Telegraph reported today.

Shortly after, the woman walked into the bar, poured a bottle of petrol over Soriano and lit a match. She watched as the flames engulfed him, before walking out.

The woman fled to Alicante, where she was arrested the same evening. When she appeared in court the next day in the town of Orihuela, she was cheered and clapped by a crowd, who shouted "Bravo!" and "Well done!" the newspaper reported.

A judge ordered her to be held in prison and undergo psychiatric tests, provoking anger from friends and neighbours, who have set up a petition calling for her release.

Soriano suffered 60 per cent burns in the attack on June 13 and later succumbed to injuries

Ouch, very touchy subject for me....I can honestly say that right now I would say fry the creep. Been in a bad relationship though with similarities...can't say what I would do then. Righteous anger precipitates sometimes unrighteous actions...only a conscience can really determine the outlook on the end result.

Considering how unrepentant that guy was, he was rotten to the core. Probably helped feed the fire.

Anyway, it serves him right for mocking to the mother about the rape to her face.

I might have, to quote Vhing Rhames from Pulp Fiction, "Gotten to work on the homes with a blowtorch and a pair of pliers" and then set his soon to be short lived, miserable life into a world of fiery pain, but considering that the woman was a mother, and likely older, a job well done I would say! I've got a friend that lives outside of Alicante. The girls there are pretty cute...

I just think rapists who repeat their crime should be fixed (chemically or surgically). Its the only way to stop them without having to kill them or lock them up for life.
As for the setting on fire, it might be a little harsh and will probably only get the angry mother sent to jail herself especially since the result was deadly. A crime justified by a crime is still a crime by law. It'd only become a neverending downward spiral if it wasn't.

I don't know about that. The guy had no public support within the community. In fact, tons of people cheered the woman at the hearing. I doubt anyone would take revenge on the woman without there being massive community retribution.

Besides, the guy's dead. There will be no retaliation.
