Does anyone have Jurassic Park on DVD? The reason I ask is, I want to know how well the transfer onto DVD was made. Is it just as good as you remember from theaters? I heard Dragonheart on DVD suffered from some matte problems with their special effects. I was curious as to whether JP suffers from the same problem.

I just mentioned something like this on The NDL. I just bought a DVD recorder and I thought I transfer the JP movies to DVD. So I tried it. And I found out that it can't be done. Every time I try to copy JP I get a message on my DVD recorder that says Signal is copy protected and it stops the recorder.

Yeah, Jurassic Park appears to be the same to me. I've watched the tape version so many times when I was a kid that it started to wear out where Nedry fell down the slope and started searching for his glasses. But yeah, the JP DVD seems to be just fine in the special effects section.
Only problem with it is it's not widescreen. I've looked EVERYWHERE for widescreen editions of ALL the Jurassic Park movies. But everywhere I've been only has full screen editions. I hope they come out with widescreen editions for each of them once Jurassic Park IV comes out.

The ORIGINAL collector's set (all three movies plus a bonus disc) was widescreen- this was originally a $70-80 set, but given that the budget "Franchise Collection" set has been released, you might be able to find it on eBay for cheap (I doubt that it's much of a collectable.)
The only thing to watch out for on JP DVDs are the special features- they tend to differ depending on how the disc was packaged (I bought a copy of JP seperately before I bought the set, which includes it- the DVDs look identical but the one from the set has more special features.) I honestly don't see a reason to watch it on VHS- the effects are so crisp that it's hard to believe people once seriously debated whether the stampeding Gallimimuses had two or three toes...
Edit: Digging out the disc I bought seperately three/four years ago, it's also widescreen. Look for the "Collector's Edition" ones- I haven't paid attention to the newer prints so I don't know if they're all fullscreen now or not.

Yeah, we have the collectors edition in the big brown box that folds open like doors. I just realized it WAS widescreen (for some reason I thought it wasn't as I had the individual DVDs before this one and they were the ones without widescreen) as I watched part of Jurassic Park last night (turned tv off when I realized it was nearly 12:00 am and my landlord was supposed to call me today at 8:00 am but he didn't).

Man, it's been forever since I've seen those movies! I have t hem on VHS from when they were first released on VHS. Maybe I should look into getting a copy of them on DVD eventually. Then again, I'm not much of a movie person at home. I prefer my little computer to the magic box

I was at Wally World the other day and I saw the whole JP movie collection on DVD. I was looking for the JAWS movies. Those are hard to find. I need JAWS 2 and JAWS 3 and I will have them all. JP and JAWS, what a perfect combo for a great movie party. =D
EDIT: BTW, I have all the JP movies on VHS.
