Well, just went to a book sale put on by the local Friends of the Library organization. Spent almost forty bucks on the first day... Won't be able to keep this up for the next week...
Anyway, this is what I got:
Books Earthclan by David Brin - It's actually a collection of two novels by Brin - namely Sundiver and Startide Rising. They're very good and it's a good thing I got this anthology in hardcover.
The Postman by David Brin - I already read this, but I though I should get this for myself for my personal library.
3001: The Final Odyssey by Arthur C. Clarke - I have 2001 in an anthology of Clarke's that I got from last year's book sale. I'll get to that and this one eventually.
Foundation and Empire by Isaac Asimov - I read Foundation, but not the other two books in the trilogy. I have all three in paperback. The one I got today is in hardcover. There were other Foundation books from the subsequent trilogies in hardcover at the booksale. I wasn't sure I should get them though. I heard they were different, or not as good. What do you guys think?
The Heritage Universe by Charles Sheffield - A rather famous english science fiction novelist who died just a few years ago. It's a collection of the first three books Summertide, Divergence, and Transcendence. I also got Divergence separately. I don't know why. It was only two bucks...
Convergence by Charles Sheffield - This is the sequel to the first trilogy of book. I guess the whole thing is now a quadrilogy.
The Gripping Hand by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle - I already have this in paperback, but at only two bucks, this hardcover was a steal. And it'll probably last longer than the paperback.
Dinotopia Lost by Alan Dean Foster - *sigh* I got this in paperback from Barnes and Nobles a few months ago. However, at only $1.80 this hardcover was a great bargain. Again, it's going to outlast the paperback.
Deathday by William C. Dietz - I heard of this guy but never read him before. Now I get to. Yay me! He does military sci-fi. Awesome.
The Dragonrider's Guide to Pern - Not a Pern fan myself, but this is an interesting reference guide to the animals and technology and stuff of the Pern series of books.
Norman Rockwell: A Sixty Year Retrospective - I like Norman Rockwell. I already have one art book of his. Now I have another.
The Art of Wyland - Yeah, the guy I linked to in the Pacific Arts thread. Now, if only I can find John Pitre at that booksale...
All of these books are hardcover. I want something more durable than paperbacks.
Comics Got tons of comics. Mostly Batman, Aliens, Predator, and Star Wars.
So.... any of you got any good books lately?

I have read some Arthur C Clarke book but it was a LONG time ago... I might have to pick one up at the library soon. I bought one book last week with techniques and tips on how to make your own clothing. Before that I got a course of Spanish and before that I think my most recent purchase was 'DNA a blueprint', a molecular biology book... I did however buy 20.000 leages under the sea, Return of the King, The comple Sherlock Holmes, The lost World and a few science books at the bookfair in November... I really like books but as you can see, I behaved and didn't buy the entire bookfair... Az knows I really, really like bookshopping. She even took me bookshopping last summer. Suffice it to say it was me, Az and her sister loose in a gigantic bookshop and I don't think we'd have managed to CARRY it all back home. Ah heaven... I wish we had such huge bookstores over here. Yes I'm a bookworm, and proud of it.

I have read some Arthur C Clarke book but it was a LONG time ago... I might have to pick one up at the library soon. Yeah, you do that. I bought one book last week with techniques and tips on how to make your own clothing. Any tidbits that might be relevant to the Dinotopian clothing thread? Before that I got a course of Spanish and before that I think my most recent purchase was 'DNA a blueprint', a molecular biology book... At last year's book sale, I got a copy of Darwin's collected works, namely Origin of Species and Descent of Man in one book. I also got a little old paperback outlining ancient Greek science. Mabe I should post some info up so we can use it in the Sauropolis/Bonabba RP? I did however buy 20.000 leages under the sea, Yeah, I got that too last year. It was in hardcover and it had guilded edges. It's really nice. Haven't read it though - I find Verne a little boring... LOL. The better book I got last year was a big fat anthology of H.G. Wells with almost all of his major science fiction novels. It's really great. I actually saw all three books in hardcover at the sale on the first day. Didn't get it though. I think LOTR is too boring... There was also The Silmarrilion there too. I was going to buy it, but it was in such poor shape. The comple Sherlock Holmes, I saw tons of Sherlock Holmes books there. Never got interested in it... Original or Crichton's one? - Aric

I spent $9.50 this time around.
Books I got Dinotopia Lost. Again. This one is in a bit better shape, which has the first page ripped out of it...
Leviathan by Thomas Hobbes - I guess this is stuff on politics and stuff. I heard of it before.
The Astounding Science Fiction Anthology - A collection of old science fiction short stories. It includes Nightfall by Asimov.
The Metaphysical Club by Louis Menand - Basically a quadruple biography of the founders of Pragmatism.
Sacred Writings: Confucian, Hebrew, Christian - I don't know why this was just lying around. It's leather bound with guilded edges. It's got stuff from Confucius and the Bible in one book. I thought it was neat.
Also got a couple of comic books.
Tomorrow's another day and it'll be half price on all hard cover fiction! I thuoght about buying the second Foundation trilogy by the "killer B's" but I thought I'll wait it out for tomorrow. And if they're still there, I'll get them all.

Dinotopia clothing tread? Do we have that? I figured one such tread might be started evantually as the STOMP is to be a costumised party...
Sure you can post Greek history. I'm splitting the roleplay forum anyway, its getting too chaotic with all these different roleplays and their accompanying threads in one forum.
I just reread H.G. Well's The Time Machine and am going to read War of the Worlds. I liked the Time machine, I also liked 20.000 leages under the sea but I didn't read all of the marine fauna descriptions (the man does go ON with that) so yes I skipped a few pages.
I read the Silmarillion... I have a bunch of the LOTR books though they're not my all time favourite books. I read them as part of my attempt to keep my english in shape, I have a long literature list for that purpose... lol
I got the original The Lost World, by Arthur Conan Doyle, the library doesn't carry a copy so I ended up buying it.

Really?! *runs off to Fanpost* EDIT - Oops, it ain't at Fanpost. It's in the Dinotopian discussion forum. I just reread H.G. Well's The Time Machine and am going to read War of the Worlds. I liked the Time machine, I also liked 20.000 leages under the sea but I didn't read all of the marine fauna descriptions (the man does go ON with that) so yes I skipped a few pages. Oi. I heard as much. Almost like Gernsback style pulp sci-fi. I got the original The Lost World, by Arthur Conan Doyle, the library doesn't carry a copy so I ended up buying it. I got it too, but in paperback. - Aric

Well, just got back from another day of book sale scouting. Spent exactly ten bucks on four hardcover books and four comics.
Books The Practice Effect by David Brin - This is probably one of his lesser known books. I think it starts out as fantasy then slowly becomes science fiction.
Nightfall and Other Stories by Isaac Asimov - I got it because it had Nightfall in it. Yes, I already got a book with that short in it, but this one had other stuff by Asimov too. A little redundancy isn't bad, especially at these cheapo prices.
The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane - Would you believe it? I, a Civil War buff, has never read this book. Now I have the chance.
The Difference Engine by William Gibson and Bruce Sterling - This is apparently an example of steampunk. Just wanted an example of it for myself.
There were other stuff I had my eye on. I think I'll give my wallet a break and wait until this Friday when everything is half off.

I haven't gotten around to reading this past week. Mom however is reading 'The Horse Whisperer', which I already read and found to be highly disappointing (it starts off well but the rest...), besides mom's finding all sorts of little inconsistencies like suddenly the text says 'her' when referring to a guy?! At my internship one lady had some idea as to what I should read; Victorian English novels. I think I'll pass that!!! Sadly the romantic crap is very popular. At the big library in the city nearby they have a whole book rack full of these small 13 in a dozen bouquet novels that are really all the the same aside from the names and places. Its a waste of space that could be used for real books. 95% of the books mentioned in this thread are books I hadn't read yet so it looks like my list of English literature and book suggestions just doubled. ;D Well that and the fact that Az and a few others want me to read the Narnia series.

At my internship one lady had some idea as to what I should read; Victorian English novels. I think I'll pass that!!! Victorian novels are great! Especially The War of the Worlds! LOL! And anything else by H.G. Wells. Sadly the romantic crap is very popular. At the big library in the city nearby they have a whole book rack full of these small 13 in a dozen bouquet novels that are really all the the same aside from the names and places. Its a waste of space that could be used for real books. Tell me about it. At the booksale, the people there were desperate to get rid of the stuff. They were practically giving them away. Why women go for this rather than straight out porno is beyond me. 95% of the books mentioned in this thread are books I hadn't read yet so it looks like my list of English literature and book suggestions just doubled. ;D Well that and the fact that Az and a few others want me to read the Narnia series. I saw the trailer for the Disney movie twice this month. It seems interesting. I might go see it. As for the books? Meh. I sa one at the booksale, but it was like number three. - Aric

About the Victorian novels, she meant for me to read things like Jane Austen, you know, sappy romantic drama about spoilt little rich girls looking for a husband to torture. *gag*

Heh. That's what all women in Victorian times should be doing - looking for husbands. LOL!
Anyway, today was the last day of the book sale. It was fifty cents per item. I spent $1.50 on three books.
Mining the Oort by Frederick Pohl - Looks like some sort of hard SF book. It's by Pohl, so it's probably good.
Outnumbering the Dead by Frederick Pohl - Another one by Pohl. Now that I look at it, I think its the one I saw at my local state library....
Dinosaur Summer by Greg Bear - Apparently, this is some sort of sequel to Arthur Conan Doyle's Lost World.
Oh and yesterday, I got Annals of the Heechee for forty cents.

Do you actually get around to reading everything you buy? I mean you already have enough to read for half a year and summer has only just began.
