I never said anything about it being fair and equal, I know what you ment. I was simply stating that no matter how much you rant and rave he will still think you're stupid, and you him. I was stating that everyone has a mental brick wall on this subject, nothing more. The fact that you are saying that everyone has a brick wall mentality on the issue is exactly the same as saying all things are equal. Given my parameters above, it should be quite clear which one is most likely to be wrong when it come to discerning truth. Remember, creationism used to be the way "science" used to regard the mechanics of the world. By science, I'm still talking about the days when the natural world was considered the purvue of the Churches and clergy way back before modernity. This view slowly changed as the evidence began to show that it was clearly wrong. The brick wall mentality applies to those who refuse to change their minds despite the evidence. So, this accusation cannot be applied to science since, as I described before, it must change its mind according to the evidence at hand. Your last post has cleared some things up, but I suspect now that you may have used "brickwall mentality" in an inadvertantly misleading way. I know that I probably won't be changing anyone's minds since they were probably made up already. However, that doesn't mean, in my opinion, that it shouldn't be put out into the open. Even if the parties who are engaged in debate have set their minds, people reading the debate might benefit in the chance that they may not have. - Aric

Aye, I was rather misleading. I twisted it for my own ends, but it "proved my point" in a long drawn-out roundabout sneaky way. There really was no point to my post though, so there was nothing to prove. I was using this as fodder for a psychology paper I'll be writing soon, and the discussion herein is helpful, albiet crude at times.

How is this a bad topic for a paper? It's been a divide in modern society for over a century.

Because I think JayJay was stupid to post it in the first place. I think he posted it here to see how we would all react. And he knew somebody would shoot it down too. And that's why he didn't even bother to come back to continue the argument. He knew he'd lost.

I don't know if he posted it with the idea that he'd lose the debate. Assuming he genuinely believes what he posted (a possibility considering he might have done similar stuff before on the OMB), he may simply have put his beliefs out there as a form of hit and run proselytization. He's done his job to spread the word of God in any way he can. He probably doesn't care if people actually took him seriously or believed him at all. - Aric
