Actually, it's Polemic. There is a dictionary deffinition of the word on the main header of the main page. The Temple of Polemic was started by Levka Gambo, a rellly old oldie. He was one of the boards original members, but he vanished a while back and the Temple has been around and in the control of everyone else ever since=)

Funny, I never really knew what it meant either.

Just for Kicks, here is the definition of Polemic: "A controversial argument, especially one refuting or attacking a specific opinion or doctrine." ( www.Dictionary.com) BD SP ~Enit

Is it just me or does taht seem like an oxymoron, the definition of polemic in reference to Dinotopia, which is a Utopian society...which means no or very little conflict? Just a thought.

According to Wikipedia Dinotopia means... '"Terrible Place", as dinosaur means "Terrible Lizard" (dino-saur), while utopia means "No Place" (u-topia).'
And I'm sure Dinotopia has its conflicts & controversies...

You know it is funny how you think that a word really means one thing but the original meaning sometimes happens to be totally different as in the case of utopia. Interesting food for thought and yes, I agree Enit that there were probably problems and disagreements, I was just speaking generally or broadly. Thanks for the definitions!

*ponders the topic and definition and realizes it doesn't seem like Dinotopia at all but doesn't question the answer and continues to just enjoy it and herself! *

Levka, as I remember him, was a pretty opinionated person, and I think that he wanted a place where he could debate controversial subjects with others (heated debates about politics and religion were occurring on the OMB, but they tended to be pretty distracting and disruptive of the board's main purpose- Dinotopia discussion.) The original ToP was a board similar to the current OMB (it was an InsideThe Web board) and allowed for people to post anonymously, so that they might be more open about their views. Levka also originally posted the board's password in its header, so that board members could change things as they wished, but we convinced him that this was a bad idea. For the most part, all of the volatile topics we didn't want on the main board got directed to the ToP. IIRC, the original ToP fell out of use for a while for some reason, then somebody messed it up (perhaps they had the password from when it was briefly posted) and then the demise of ITW got rid of it for good (along with the OMB, and my dinosaur board, and various other satellite boards.) I'm not sure when the board was "revived"- I think Azzy ressurrected it on EZBoard, making it a multi-forum board that had art and RP sections in addition to the debate sections (where we continued to send any unpleasantness that found its way to the OMB.) EZBoard's pop-up ads eventually made it to difficult for me to regularly visit, and I gradually became inactive in the fandom overall, so when and why the board got moved to this server I can't say. Just thought I'd share a page out of the fandom's history...
