Some people think that the government control of certain industries is bad, but I believe that big business can sometimes be just as evil. Many people who control big business can be very greedy and care more about stockholders than customers. I don't think there's anything wrong with capitalism but sometimes they just don't think these through. Overfishing rids the ocean of fish and hence future profits. Cutting down the rainforests makes it harder to breathe. But businessmen care more about making thousands this quarter than millions in the future. Where's the long-term planning?
Anyone who's still here in at the Temple, please respond.

Yes there's that. Big business is throwing everything away just to make money. But so as to not getting me started on this one, (They're ruining everything, and making US pay for it both ways!) Let's just say we should have seen it coming, and we should have done something to stop it sooner... Now it's too late!

Let's just say we should have seen it coming, and we should have done something to stop it sooner... Now it's too late! I agree. But what makes it too late? Things may be harder to fix now than earlier, but is it truly impossible? What about the saying, "Where there's a will, there's a way?"

True, there is a way... But everyone's will is toward money!
No one will ever fix things unless they can make a profit off it. If we fix things and it ends up taking all or most of the money, most people will have nothing of it!

If we fix things and it ends up taking all or most of the money, most people will have nothing of it! So are you saying that it's a hopeless situation and nothing can be done about it? We are to sit back and do nothing but moan and groan about how bad things are going these days? If that was what got US into such a mess, then we'd better take a lesson from our forefathers and start setting things straight again! Sometimes I wonder if all the people who were not so sickningly greedy about money would stand up to those who were, what would the ratios be? Is it really the greater part of the population who is so stuck on making a profit at the expense of jeopardizing our environment? Or is it just that the people who are against such thievery won't stand up for what's right and instead sit back and do nothing more than talk about America's problems? A person can talk all day, but until action takes place, nothing will change.

We need a solution to many problems, but until something is done we're just going to be in the same boat as always. Here's one type of solution to the cannonballing economy. I took it from Dinotopian ethics, so it may sound strange. _
This comes from 'Dinotopia the series' , the one where Frank Scott invents the car. called 'Car Wars'... (Warning! Spoiler alert!)
Frank Scott invents a car that runs on methane, but the court deems that he shut down for some reason. Not giving up around mayoral election time, he runs for office; and through speeches on progress, wins the election. Now he has free reign on what goes on, and immediately things begin to fall apart. There are a few injuries from the cars, peoples' homes are destroyed to make parking lots and the car nearly puts the Brach bus service out of business. Rosemary points out an old law called the 'Treaty of Arihmon', which basically banns all forms of destrudctive technology (They had thier Industrial Revolution 300 years previous, and caused all sorts of pollution and the same kind of things that are going on now. Tecfhnology failed them back then and it would do so now!). Frank ignores this as things spiral out of control, and he eventually gets injured by one of his own creations. The doctor fixes him up, but Waldo has an idea for him to be stopped; so while drugged they convince him ala-'The Night Before Christmas'. Frank eventually wakes and has a change of heart, then hands the mayorship to Waldo and mothballs the car... _
We can use that story to come up with a solution to our financial situation...
They banned all harmful technology, and we can ban all harmful business.
We should dissolve all corporations, and leave the businesses to the smaller people.
We can dissolve the stock markets, and should only care about internal financial affairs.
I'll modify a quote from that episode:
"Big business has failed us many times in the past, and will do so many times again unless we do something about it..." _
(Long post, sorry!...)

That sounds like a great idea, thundertail.
I love history, and so I watch many TV documentaries and read history books about the many failures of big business. Things have changed over the years, thanks to the power of unions, who have fought for overtime and child labor laws.
I think the main problem is long-term planning (or the lack thereof). Many people may avoid long-term planning because they believe it to be Communist, as in China's "Five Year Plans," but in reality, "Five Year Plans" were part of Chinese culture long before Communism.
