Does anyone know how long the average missionary trip to a foreign nation lasts? If so could you please tell me.

a couple of buddies of mine are on seperate ones.... One in Moscow for 2 and a half years (Mormon mission), one in Cairo for almost 2 years (Christian mission). There's a couple of diffrent faiths mission trips, but I'm sure they could be as short as a week or two.

Well...that's an awful long time...maybe Kiva won't be gone that long, since all she said they were going to do was build a church.

The missionaries I know are in their fields for life. They come back on occasion to give the churches updates on what's going on in the field and to help raise more support, but they always go back. There are survey trips where they'll go for a few months or a year to get a feel for the field and to find out if that really is the place God wants them. You'd just have to ask your friend how long she's going to be gone.
Is this Kiva Stoutheart you're talking about?

Aye, the very same. I was just starting to get worried, since it's been almost a year. I didn't know how long these things were suppose to last.

I guess you can do these things as long as you want, its just like doing volunteers work or going abroad with organisations like Unicef. You can choose to do it for a while or a while longer or your lifetime... Building a church could take a while... Building a cathedral can take centuries. Heck I once looked up some organisations around here that set up hospitals and such in the third world... Unfortunately I'd need to have a few years of work experience to be able to do any such thing. I would like to do something crazy like go to Africa or something and see what I can do. Its too easy to sit on my bum and enjoy the rich western civilisation for the rest of my life without having done anything beyond the occasional monetary donation to satisfy my conscience... If I could, I would... Maybe I should try to study medicine. jkjk I wouldn't do that to anyone. I have no idea how but I'd like to work in a third world country for a while... I just don't think there's a whole lot of use for a molecular biologist in a third world country?? But then again I just have thing for travelling. I like to get away from this little country... I feel insanely alive whenever I can get OUT of here. ;D And I want to feel as if I'm doing something useful, as if it means something, as if life is about more then money and fashion. I want to be doing more then just girl-works==>so-girl-makes-money you know? There's got to be something good, something worth fighting for, a deeper reason, a goal, whatever. Do I make any sense at all? I just want to live my life so when I am old I can look back and have no regrets for the things I didn't do.
