Captain Azura Martinez, alias "Blue Cat", stood at the helm of her beloved ship, The Blue Demon, taking in the salty sea air. Everything was running smoothly so far, with a brisk, northeast wind and a cargo of precious merchant's various valuables. Blue Cat was beginning to feel confident that she would be able to pay her crew healthily, and keep a good deal of the spoils herself to give her family in Spain enough money to buy a good house and eat good food for at least a month or two. Azura paused, there was a shadow in the horizon which could mean one of two things. A rogue island too small to be of any importance or a ship. She put her first mate in charge of the helm and practically jumped to the crow's nest. The lookout saw his captain, saluted, and gave her his telescope, albeit a little late, since Azura already had her own cherrywood and gold telescope out and to her brown eye. She brought it down to her belt with a tired sigh, closing her precious telescope and putting her gentle, but deadly hand on her lookout, "Thank'ee fer the work, Perro, but I'd 'preciate a good call out, somethin' o'th' likes, "Ship Ahoy" would be nice." The lad blushed a little, saluted and replied, "Aye, aye, ma'am" Blue Cat leapt out of the crow's nest, slid down the ropes, and landed on the deck with an authoritative thud. Her crew brought their attention to her as she paced around the main mast, clasped her hands behind her back and shouted, "Prepare yerselves, mates. We're 'bout ta git mo' booty!" The roar of the cheer was ominous and rang in Azura's ears like church bells. She went to starboard and sighed, hoping that she would be able to take this Navy ship by surprise.

((ooc: So sorry that it took so long to put this up! Here's my part of it! )) Eighteen year old Maddison Harrison--or Mad Maddie, as her friends called her--shook her mane of curly red hair out of her tanned face and put a green eye to the spyglass again. Those blasted headscarves were supposed to keep it out of the way, but her hair had always had a life of its own. Dressed exactly like one of the crew, Maddie was the only girl aboard the Royal Navy's Berate. Her father, Captain Benjamin Harrison, had let her work on his ships since she was seven, though he never told his wife that. Maddie had never liked the idilic life of a proper English lady and had earned her nickname from the street boys that she used to best with her stolen set of knives. When her father had consented to finally have her own set of boy's clothes, she had dressed into them as soon as the port was out of sight. The crew had never seen her in a dress for too long--that is, if her mother didn't come with them--and never thought her weaker than them for being a girl. Suddenly, Maddie spotted sails in the distance and clutched the crow's nest with her legs tightly. The ship (schooner probably) was still far away, but she had caught the very tiniest flashes of a purple scarf on the prow. The infamous woman pirate Blue Cat was said to patrol these waters and many reports had said that she wore a purple bandana. Still, it was Maddie's duty to call attention to it to those below. "Ship ahoy!" She called, drawing her father and those around them out of studying their maps. When her father caught a glimpse of her, she pointed directly ahead. There was a flutter of fabric below and she was quickly replaced by one of the other crew members--this one was the man she'd had a crush on ever since he'd been asigned to the ship. "What did you see, Maddie?" Captain Harrison asked with a slightly nervous breath. "A schooner, sir, and I'm pretty sure it's Blue Cat's rig, the Blue Demon. I saw a purple headband on the prow, sir." Maddie never called Captain Harrison father unless they were on land or her mother was present. There was a flurry of activity as several of the crew with the best eyesight took to the prow and nodded. "It be the Demon all right, Capn'. An' she looks like she's comin' straigh' fer us!" Maddie couldn't believe her luck...she was going to be in a real ship battle at last! ((ooc: Just curious as to if this fits your idea of a good post. I'm a little rusty when it comes to pirates.))

The Blue Demon had not gone far when Azura realized that she would not be having the advantage of a surprise attack on THIS ship. She raised her voice, something she did only when the Demon was about to attack, "It'll be a challenge, maties, but let it be known that the crew of the Cat never backed down from a target!" Another cheer rose as half of her crew went below deck to prepare the cannons. Azura smiled, her crew was faithful to the end, one of the reasons her ship remained undefeated in any combat, although it was difficult for the small, top-sail schooner to approach any vessel larger than it. Azura had a thought cross her mind and she smiled wickedly. "Sailor!" she said to her First Mate, "Steer th' Demon west'ard," she took another glance in her telescope and hummed, "Hmm, looks like the Berate is in fer a li'l ol' fashioned game o' Hide 'n' Seek. Crew, duck!" she barked, and all shipmates lowered themselves to the deck She slowed her breathing as she imagined the ship blending into the horizon and smiled, she loved owning the Blue Demon. ooc: Who do you think should win this battle? Just wondering...
